And the procedures we did worked!  There are no words I have to express my gratitude. He was attentive, and even better... the staff he surrounds himself with are also equally accessible and attentive. The communication is awesome. If you are dealing with back or hip pain or pain in general your body, I would highly recommend scheduling a visit through your doctor.

The order was in, but the staff simply was not available to provide the drip install. Also, pay close attention to your bill. While my surgeon and the hospital were in-network, they selected to use an out-of-network componenet to my care. I was not told about this and was billed out of network while staying in the hospital for that part. Thank god for the No Surprises Act, making the charges only $700 vs the thousands of additional dollars in the bill. But I was not told about this until more than a year later. So even though my surgery took me well over my more than $5,000 max out of pocket, I now have to pay an additional $700. Add into that... I was sent a letter so much later that I can't even appeal it with my insurance. Extrmely shady practice. Very disappointed and would not recommend this hospital.

Many from the Oakwood surgery center claimed to not know how to find this out. Until I talked to the older lady at the front. She knew a little about how you can request someone. I called and called and no one got back to me until the day before the surgery. But I did some research of my own and found the Austin Anesthiology Group supplied the Oakwood surgery center. I was most impressed by the backgrounds of doctors Orth, Eddings and Patel. Well at of these only Eddings was willing to make it. So the day of surgery I am in the hospital bed and I had a panic attack because the young nurse kept talking about complications like bleeding, blood vessel damage. Suddenly my blood pressure drops and I am covered in sweat. Just then Dr. Eddings comes in and I thank him for making it and he's like of course. He doesn't draw attention to my condition and just winks at my husband and says after we interview you i've got the good stuff in my pocket-that will make you not even care about any of this. I remember thinking that's impossible. Another impressing thing was that he remembered all of my prep interview that I filled out online and doubled checked with me about the important items. Then sure enough after I was given "the good stuff" I felt good enough to put all my trust in my doctors and announce that they would surely do their best and that I would see them later. I was put in the OR and the general "stuff" burned like hell. Dr. Eddings very professionally said, we will help you with that. What he meant was you'll be out in a few seconds but he chose to not draw attention to the fact that I would soon be under the knife but instead comforted me with what words he chose to use. Very, very skilled professional! He was also reasonable about the amount to pain meds and the type and made sure my husband got them to me exactly 5 hours after surgery. I've had surgery before and trust me-you NEVER want to feel ALL of that post surgery pain. I can't say enough about this doctor!!! I would trust him with my life and the life of my loved ones over and over! 8D

And she did a perfect job with my surgery, from start to finish. She is 5 stars without a doubt. The only thing was the wait in the office. The office staff are very friendly and helpful, so no complaints about them. Even when I mixed up appointment times and was late, they handled it and didn't penalize me but were very kind and gracious. The only negative was that I could end up waiting for a really long time--almost an hour until I finally saw Dr. White for my post-op. I considered four stars for that reason but decided I didn't want people to see a lower rating and think it was due to Dr. White's skill. So office wait time could improve but other than that, wonderful experience, team and doctor. Thank you Dr. White for everything!

I went in today for my monthly follow up appointment. I had had a neck surgery last week which turned out to be extremely painful. I had been in the office the day after the surgery to receive some stronger medication while I healed. Today Dr. White walked in and I couldn't believe what followed. I had waited patiently for over an hour to see him. Then he finally came in and he was extremely agitated. So much so that he was shaking and pacing around the room. I started trying to tell him why I was requesting to see him instead of his PA this visit. He started cutting me off while I was talking, responding very rudely to what I was saying. Then he seemed to lose patience and launched into what turned out to be a 5 minute long assault on me and my character. He told me that I was a liar and a drug addict. He told me that I was obsessed with pain medication. When I tried to respond, surprised but calmly, he swore at me and told me he didn't care what I had to say. He cited early refills and multiple ER visits. When I tried to point out that I had never gone to the ER unless directed to do so by his office, I was again cut off and not allowed to speak. He continued on in a manner that I can only think to describe as cruel and abusive. I was cut off and shut down everytime I tried to speak or ask a question. This went on for almost 5 minutes and he ended by saying that I was to see their addiction specialist to be placed on Suboxone. Then he walked out. I was so shocked by his behavior that I just walked out without a word. To be clear, this is not about the accusation that I was addicted to pain medication. I have been on pain meds for a long time and Dr. White had some valid points. This is entirely about the way he handled it, the way I was treated. He was overly aggressive, too loud, he called me a liar and a drug addict repeatedly, he swore at me and kept cutting me off by telling me he "didn't give a damn" how I was feeling. I believe his attitude and his rant at me fall into the category of abusive. I felt so degraded and embarrassed by the time I left. Not to mention he has left me with only two days of medication left, shortly following a very painful neck surgery. I filed a complaint with Advanced Pain Care and may file one with the Texas Medical Board. What happened to me in that office today was not okay. I will never step foot into that facility again. Update: I spoke to the practice manager at Advanced Pain Care. According to her, the nurse in the room contradicted my complaints. She said the doctor was "stern" with me and never swore. While it's true he didn't cuss me out or anything, he did say "I don't give a damn what you feel about....". I felt it was inappropriate and unprofessional. As far as him being stern, that is a gross understatement. Apparently Dr. White expressed that he was only trying to help me. Well Dr. White, if you feel that's true then I'd like you to know that you have an *awful* way of showing it.

During my first epidural attempt, I immediately felt sharp pain radiating from my spine through my right hip, down my leg, and into my foot. I repeatedly asked him to stop because something felt wrong, but he continued and told me, "You're just nervous -- I'm going to keep going." I began screaming from the pain. My husband and nurse both looked terrified. My nurse even said she'd never seen anything like it. My OB's attending ran in, thinking I was delivering, and demanded that he stop once she realized what was happening. Afterward, Dr. Matthew B. Bourneuf told me I was being "too emotional" and that he'd speak to me once I'd calmed down. When he returned later, he explained that "sometimes we just miss" and that it's "really just a guess where the right spot is." I waited until the next shift for a new anesthesiologist, Dr. Lee, who was calm, patient, and communicative. Despite being terrified from the earlier experience, he explained everything and successfully placed the epidural without issue. Dr. Jay was also kind and reassuring during this process. Five stars for Dr. Lee and Dr. Jay. Later, with confirmation from neurology and dermatology, I learned that the first attempt had gone through my hemangioma (a large, benign cluster of lymphatic tissue I've had since birth aka "a strawberry patch" that runs from my butt cheeks down to my right calf). That explains the excruciating pain -- it wasn't "just nerves." I don't expect medical providers to be my best friends, but I do expect to be listened to, to have my consent respected, and to be treated with empathy. This experience was traumatic, not because the epidural failed, but because of the way I was dismissed and spoken to. My nurse, Carrie, submitted an incident report at St. David's North Austin about what happened. I share this review not out of anger, but in hopes that no one else has to experience that same level of disregard and pain during one of life's most vulnerable moments.
