I've lived in Anchorage for a little under 2 years and have been to 4 different nail salons searching for the perfect nail salon! Well, I've finally found it at Pure Nails Spa (on 88th). I called and made an appointment, I arrived on time and was greeted right away by a gentleman. I told him I had an appointment and he seated me right away. He then asked what I needed and he started right away. After speaking to him I found out he was the owner. He was very personable as he worked on my nails. The salon was exceptionally clean and very nicely decorated. My nails look amazing! I will recommend this place to everyone!!!! The absolute worst nail salon I've ever been to. I have lived in multiple states and gotten better $20 acrylics than this place. They were all different lengths, lumpy, and crooked. The woman coughed on my hands multiple times, and took almost two hours for a full set. I went to the second location the next day to get them fixed and they charged me. Came here because my regular lady wasn't available at my usual spot. Was disappointed, asked for gel toes and got the gel polish, but did not cure it with the light, and it got smeared even after 20 minutes of sitting to dry. Went back the next day to fix it. Not 2 days after, paint on all toes started to chip, my second indicator that gel was not put on my toes...which I had paid for. I wanted to love this place. It had the 5 star rating. Everyone raved about James. James seemed to be quite the business man and seemed very knowledgeable. Unfortunately, I did not get James when I came in for my appointment. Seems I got "the help," at the end of her workday, and she was in training. She required lots of coaching from James. I almost thought she was a student. She did all the tasks listed on the brochure for the $65 pedicure (along with greeting guests, answering the phone, texting, operating remote for TV, getting lessons from James on things like: proper water temperature, how to cool a wet towel so guest is not scalded, how to do paraffin wax, how long to massage....) Everybody has to learn, but I didn't feel I was able to relax being the guinea pig with boiled feet and hot legs. She told James she was "locked in for an hour" referring to the length of my service (so she couldn't work on the clients who followed me). I really don't want anyone to feel "locked in" to anything I am paying them for. Perhaps she had an off day, or she still a work in progress as far as training goes. She applied the sugar scrub but she didn't rub it in to exfoliate. She went thru the motions of massaging my legs, but it was more of her putting oil and lotion on my legs and feet than a massage. She yawned several times before and after my ignored request for more pressure...she was there just going thru the motions. Made me wish I had gone elsewhere because the experience was disappointing. Pluses: The ventilation was great! No crazy, toxic fumes. James was nice and I could tell he wanted things done well, thus the coaching. Place was visually appealing. She polishes well? Will I return? I'm all for the journey, not just end result. Word to the wise: If you do decide to go....ASK FOR JAMES! read more

I loved upon first impression. It was welcoming and clean. All tools were individually sealed, and you can tell the owner (James) takes great pride in his work and keeping the shop at high standards. I was disappointed to learn when I first got there that they no longer accept credit cards (no mention was made of this when I scheduled my appointment), but they do have an ATM in the shop. Thankfully I had enough cash on me. There was a toddler (the son of the owner and one of the workers) who was just running around the entire time. He was well behaved, but it was distracting. His mom had to continually get up and stop the pedicure she was working on to manage her son. At one point he tried to help with a pedicure *results will end poorly*. The lady who was doing my pedicure was distracted and seemed to be somewhere else mentally. The end result of my paint job is sloppy, with uneven lines and paint over the edges of my toes. I got the top of the line pedicure (I can't remember what they call it), but it was supposed to come with either a French Tip or two designs. I did not get those. When I asked, the lady said they were no longer included. I can not justify $65 to return to a place where I pay for a sloppy pedicure that I feel mediocre about and am counting down the days until I find a new place to get my next pedi. read more

I really wanted to love this place, because it's minutes from home. The pedicure was ok. However, they had a toddler running around crying and screaming. His mother wasn't watching him, and he almost ruined my pedicure because he tried to "help" and put a separator on my foot. At one point he was just running in circles around the salon. He was very cute, but this is inappropriate for a business. When I go to get mania and pedis I am looking for relaxation and quiet. It's a pampering time. This made me feel more stressed. Maybe this isn't the norm and I went on a bad day. It is curious that I was the only customer. The young lady that did my pedicure was very nice. My first time coming here and I was surprised by how they allowed me to get my pedicure done as a walk in. A lovely nail tech who is African American named kiara greeted me with her name and welcomed me and was a pleasant delight. I asked her how long was the wait and she was asking me what I would like done today. Before I can even let her know, rudely, an Asian female came up and pushed her out the way and said go get the towels I have this and said hi how can I help you? And I told her well I was about to tell your tech that I wanted a pedi and would like to go with the deluxe. And asked if I can have the person who greeted me to do it. The asian lady was really rude and not a great helper when she said I will get someone who is a professional to take care of my service for today for they are booked with appointments but she can squeeze me in. She left and said give her a few and started to run my water (so I thought) and put her client in it. I walked up to her and asked for her name and she said jade, I asked how long would it be and she said in a few minutes. 11 minutes later she called for a lady named lucie to do my pedicure and she said she couldn't do it for she has an appointment. Well the Asian lady came back to me and said im just going to have kiara (who I wanted originally) to do my pedicure. Kiara came and was really nice with a good demeanor and was happy to do the service until I asked for gel polish. I WISH I HAVE NEVER ASKED FOR THIS! Because Jade came over and told the African American lady that she was going to have someone else takeover the appointment. And told her to switch with another nail tech. Well kiara was not impressed and I understand. Because while she was at the end of my pedicure I have asked if I can switch to gel and kiara was nice to say yes I don't mind doing that for you. But ever since I did that I had a girl named Laura do my feet and she just did a bad gel polish. I wish they never switched techs because it was bad and I asked for a color and Laura said the color won't show and put a color on me she said will show. I didn't argue with her and just allowed her to finish. I've seen that kiara was upset and talking to some girls in Spanish (found out she is actually Hispanic) and told her she should leave this place. And she told me that it's ok and asked was everything ok with the services she provided? And I told her yes, and said I wanted to give her a tip to her personally ($40) for I seen what was clearly going on. She smiled and kept it positive and told me to have a blessed day. I would give it 5 stars if kiara completed it. But since everyone else was involved I have to give it 1 for the bad service, paint, and lies. Especially the change in nail techs and calling the African American a non professional when she did an excellent job with the service. I hope I see kiara around because she did an excellent job personally and physically. She has excellent customer service and you can tell she is women who is good at what she does. This is the first and only nail salon I will ever go to. Most importantly its CLEAN on the inside. The first thing I ever got here was an acrylics full set. James did an AMAZING job and had me excited to come back every time I needed a fill. They take their time with their services and the quality is hard to beat. If you compare their full set acrylics to someone else's from another shop, theres a big difference. Other nail salons make acrylics look thin and flimsy, but not here! Once, I broke one of my acrylics getting my finger caught in a door. I went back to the salon to get it fixed and James fixed it for free! I love this place! read more

First time there this afternoon and I was a walk in. I'm 3 weeks from my due date and my feet are Shrek status...the nail tech (didn't catch her name) did a great job on my pedi and was gentle with my swollen feet and calves. Someone else finished my paint job and was an absolute gem. I'll be back! Hopefully I won't be back with the Shrek feet, though.
