After 25 years of being a GCI customer, we changed internet services to ACS, due to the huge mess GCI made of migrating from cable to streaming services. That pleasant experience was a painful 12 months of utter chaos. Held our nose when opening a new account with ACS, as I had read so many negative reviews about their Cust Service. The new Fiber internet is working well, and happy with it so far! Their billing and their lack of communications and follow-up from their Customer Service Dept is a joke! Beware, if you need them to help you after your installation; clearly there is little if any collaboration between their CS representatives. TERRIBLE HOLD TIMES!!!! I am trying to get internet service set up at my place and I also work M-F 9-5. I was on hold for 38 minutes and disconnected. I was then on hold for 57 minutes and hung up on because it was 5pm. I am now on hold for 63+ minutes. i have to take actual PTO from my job just to have a conversation with someone. They seem to be GROSSLY understaffed. People have told me "just go online and put an order in". Well, if I had internet I could do that. If I could do personal stuff on my work computer I could do that. Thank God SPITSWSPOTS is another option in my area. read more

We changed to ACS internet about 15 years ago because of the horrible service we got from GCI. With ACS, the internet rarely went down, it was so reliable. Tech support was great. Now I'm just getting more and more disillusioned with them. When we moved from downtown to midtown, we were told the highest speed available was 1 mb. 10 years later, the speed is still the same. I check a few times a year to see if the speed issue has been resolved and it hasn't. Very disappointing, as I'm paying the same price as others who are getting close to 50 mb. My neighborhood has existed for over 50 years, it's not like I'm living out in the sticks somewhere. I was hoping after they sold off the cell phone part of the company, they would really get it in gear and focus on upgrading the internet speed in areas of town that are loping along. Internet is all they have left - what's the hold up? Are they putting all their focus into the business side instead of residential? I've always gotten good service from tech support, but they close at 6:00 pm during the week. They should at least be open later into the evening so people don't have to take time off work to get issues resolved. What really irked me this weekend was that our internet went out Saturday evening. Tech support is closed on Sunday, which is ridiculous. I knew the problem was on their end, and it really ticked me off that there was obviously no one monitoring the outage and no phone number to report the outage. I was proved right when I rebooted my router again early this morning and miraculously the internet was working again. They need to have someone monitoring their servers and if an outage occurs, at the very least put a recorded message on their phone that the issue is being worked on. Communicate with me, people! I love that their service is reliable and I get great tech support, but they have some issues that really need to be addressed. read more

Alaska has a catch 22 for internet... Either you get ACS and their horrid speeds that when tested say 10mbps, but when you hit the web, nothing loads properly, even a plain google search, or you get GCI, who is horribly expensive with data caps. At this point I am going to be forced to leave ACS and leave to GCI because ACS tech support always says "It's not our fault" and then says good luck. Speeds have not improved, and nobody knows when or if they will be. Their connections used to be ok for online gaming, even with a variety of devices "connected"(but in sleep mode), but now nothing works properly. Load times on everything from gaming to google searches have become atrocious. Even our netflix has a hard time loading sometimes, when we have the whole fam put down their devices and watch something together. "Everything looks good from our end" is a lousy answer to get every time you call tech support and it is really upsetting when no one will listen to your problems regarding what's going on. read more

Alaska Communications is terrible every couple of months something goes wrong with my internet and it's always on the weekends when they don't offer hardly any customer service. Just this last weekend I was attempting to renew my services after it was scheduled to get disconnected but all of their web pages just take me around in circles leading to my frustration. They are lucky their services are cheaper and more convenient than GCI or they wouldn't have a business at all. read more

I feel like it just keeps getting worse. When my connections gets slightly stressed, my download and upload virtually half in performance. On top of that, its has recently started crashing. I'm honestly shocked by all the negative reviews towards ACS. My parents have had ACS for quite some time since I was younger, & now that I'm on my own, ACS will still always be my choice for home internet. I was actually sad when I had to cancel my service with them due to moving into an area where they didn't offer high-speed internet (this is why I gave them 4/5 stars). Unfortunately, we had to switch to GCI's very limited, spotty data. It was terrible compared to ACS. Many people find that GCI is a lot faster, but I honestly couldn't tell the difference. & with what speed we do have with them, I can't even truly enjoy it without worrying about going over my data or having it shut off on me and restarting by itself for no apparent reason. It just plain sucks. I can't wait to get my service back with ACS once we move back to our old place. I love that it's truly unlimited, no data caps whatsoever, & their customer service is just top notch. They've always been super friendly & informative with all my questions & concerns. It's as easy as one phone call to get set up, and another phone call to cancel your service. I've had so many problems with ACS. And to top it off, they added $30 to my bill and said it "happens once a year" and it's apparently just "something they charge every year" like wtf???? And i got mad and asked for it to be removed which she said she could do as a courtesy (? ok..) and of course it never was removed. My internet BARELY works as it is (and yes i've called multiple times for help) its sadly my only option where i live. Oh and guess what? I got a letter in the mail, and I was thinking it would be an apology or "let us help" or something of the sort. HAHA. Nope, they're raising our bill by $5 due to "inflation". ACS is great so far. Glad there is some competition for GCI which charges outrageous rates for unlimited internet. F* GCI, I'd support ACS just to keep their monopoly in check. I live on the east side of Anchorage and get 1.8 MB/s per second download, 50ms latency (on wifi) with ACS. That is plenty for HD videos, gaming and downloading. Its also reasonable for $85/month. As for installation, its when they say it'll be plus or minus 3-4 days. They could improve that. read more

I dealt with GCI for several years and was not happy with costs constantly going up and lack of tech assistance so changed to ACS and i have been so happy with their service. Tech support, when needed, has been great and they even help me fix an issue when we figure out it wasn't a ACS problem. Their price for unlimited internet was $100.00 less per month than GCI and i have had very little down time compared to gci. read more

Very disappointing. Got a big bill because I wanted my phone jack moved (it was put in a location I never approved-literally in the middle of the wall, I didn't see where he had installed it until after he left) I called to have It repositioned. When the tech arrived he argued with me over where he would not put it. Finally, after agreeing on a new spot to install, I was charged another 100 dollars and left with an ugly sheetrock blemish. Was told I'd receive an email survey so I could share my experience and that never happened either. I am not a complainer but the extra hundred dollar charge to place my jack in an inconspicuous place was poor customer service in my opinion. read more

Absolutely horrible! I knew going in that they are not the best internet provider so my expectations where low. Well, its worse then I thought. If I could give negative stars I would. If im lucky I can stream something in a decent enough clarity to see whats going on. Want to play some COD online? Well make sure you have a few extra controllers handy because you will undoubtedly destroy one or two after waiting 15 min just to get into a lobby then lag so bad the game crashes. Oh, and did I forget to mention that the already horribly slow internet cuts out and I loose it completely about 3-4 times a day? Yeah. Horrible customer service. Very poorly managed. I've been a customer for over two years my internet during this time has been extremely unreliable 7 MB's. They only have tech support during business hours which is extremely inconvenient to their typical working customer. And when I called for tech support I was put on hold for almost two hours before I spoke with a representative. They dispatched a tech several days later that claimed he replaced some weathered wires. That were installed two years ago and solved my slow internet problem. When I got home I found my internet was still extremely slow and still having the same issue. I was not able to reach the tech that replaced supposedly weathered wire. And now I must start the process of calling in tomorrow while I'm at work and wait on hold again. Extremely frustrated and disappointed with acs customer service. read more

Worst Internet company that I've ever come across. Outages for weeks at a time, not being able to cancel/make a payment with customer service. Speaking of customer service this company needs to seriously reevaluate how you train your employees. Every single person I've talked to in customer support has blown me off with a transfer or act like they've never sat in the office before. We just recently moved to Alaska from California and we're trying to get some internet access. Unfortunately our time with this company has been the farthest from helpful. We tried to apply online only to keep receiving error messages which say to call the company. We were on hold with the company for four hours only to be hung up right before their hours closed. The next day as soon as they opened we called only to be placed on hold again. We have sent messages that have been read with no responses. This company's slogan is to "expect more", and honestly I expected to have some sort of help but can't even get that with this ridiculous company. read more

I recently relocated to Anchorage and I can't believe how backward Internet service is here. My girlfriend works from home so Internet access is a necessity but ACS can't get ours started for 13 days, even though I'm setting up, and configuring, the equipment myself?! Update: I received a call from ACS on Thursday and they said they were available to install my internet. I told them it would take about 20 minutes to get from my office to my house.. Not 10 minutes after I arrived I received another call from them informing me that there was a problem on their end and they wouldn't be able to install my internet afterall.... (i drove home and left work for nothing) I was told I'd get a call on Monday. Well, it's Monday and I have not received a call. At this point, my time has been severely wasted. Internet 10Mps for $89 for more than over two decades, 25Mps is to minimum recommended streaming. Oh, 10Mps works if you don't mind getting continuous buffering or just getting dropped for the site you were on. read more

I have talked to technical support several times, still not better, and not even close to what it's supposed to be. "Magically" after I asked to speak to a manager, and I mean immediately after I asked, our speed jumped to almost the 1Mb/320kps we pay for. Do yourself a favor and go literally ANYWHERE else for internet service. This is the only internet provider in the building I live in and they seem to know that and therefore don't care what happens with our WiFi. Not only is their internet slow with extremely high ping rates while gaming, but god forbid you miss the emails about them updating their website and therefore you need to update your payment information. Not only will their online payment services will crash but you will spend HOURS on the phone on hold trying to get ahold of one of the 3 customer service representatives they have on payroll. If I had literally any other options for WiFi I would venture out, but seeing as I don't I'm stuck with these people. But you can still save yourself. read more

For some reason my Internet connection in Girdwood Alaska is out and they are telling me that they cannot come out to fix this problem until Monday of next week. Totally unacceptable. Horrible internet service, I cancelled my account and they still continued to charge me. They told me I would get a refund but that never happened, their website is confusing and unreliable as well as their customer service. As many times as I called and was on hold there was only one lady who would eventually answer and gave promises that never happened regarding my refund when I continually asked to cancel the internet service. My card was still charged for it, and their website is completely confusing it does not give you the option to cancel it from the website itself and it won't let you delete your payment information. I recently had to freeze my debit card until I hear back from them, this service is absolutely ridiculous. Highly do not recommend them if you live at Northpointe apartments. I'm hoping to get my refund back but it's been two weeks and I'm writing this because they charged me AFTER I cancelled it on the phone with them after being on hold for half an hour. read more

My bill tripled due to an order that should have changed my long distance carrier from ACS to AT&T. On July 24th, I reported the issue to an agent, who immediately saw the problem and referred it to the "Toll" department. Apparently the Toll Department is a single person because "They were not in the office that day." I have been calling daily with no resolution. I sent an email to customercare@acsalaska today and got a message back saying I would be contacted in 72 Business Hours. That's 8 days. Really? read more

DO NOT go to ACS. I went through them to get internet service for my new work-from-home job and it was the worst internet service I've ever had. It was a 4 day wait for them to install it, which alone wouldn't be a big deal, but that's just the first issue I had. I scheduled an install time of between 12:00pm-2:00pm, and the tech showed up at 9am instead. He gave me the router and cords to install in my apartment which I did, and for the following two weeks my internet barely worked. Half the time it didn't work at all and would cut out constantly and when it did work it was very slow and unreliable. I called tech support and had to wait for 2 hours just for someone to pick up, and they couldn't fix it and told me they would call me back. I brought back the equipment they gave me and told them to close my account, and went to GCI instead. Within 15 mins they had an account set up for me and gave me the router and cords to go home and install which was super easy, and it has worked flawlessly since I hooked it up. Now I've worked in retail for 3+ years and I can always understand the struggle to of being understaffed or things being out of our control, so I'm not blaming the staff so much as the company as a whole. Almost $100 is not worth the complete headache it was to deal with them. If you need internet go to GCI, much better service and much better connection/speeds. read more

My bill just increased by over 10%. I called customer services and was told that this was a "legacy bundle services increase." In essence, this means that loyal customers who have been with ACS for a very long time got a massive increase in their bills while new customers did not. I'm shocked that ACS does not value their loyal customers. This will cause longterm customer to look elsewhere, what a shame. read more

ACS just plain sucks. They are making no effort that I can see to improve their pathetic internet service around Fairbanks. My phone gets higher speed than their DSL but that costs too much in the long run and then I'd have to deal with ATT, which also pretty much sucks, And my DSL is way better than many that I know. I had the same issue that P.O. did. Their service would go down for several days at a time with them never taking responsibility for it, and internet service would slow at times, but you would never get a refund. After 7 years with ACS we moved from Alaska, but when we left we talked to the new couple buying our house - we were both on the phone with ACS at the same time and ACS agreed to switch the service over to them. But two months later when I was able to get my mail ACS was still billing me. when I called their customer service they were rude and said they would turn over to collection agency. I reported them to the BBB and ACS had 90 days to respond but they never did - they have no respect for customers read more
