When I made a small change in service, they made 3 mistakes before they got it right, each new mistake discovered required another call, wait, ok got that fixed, nope, now that's not right, call again. Apparently only people in the Anchorage area can boast consistent connection, fast speeds, and adequate customer service. Here in Fairbanks, forget it. This is the worst company I've ever dealt with. Worse than ATT if that can be believed. We moved 1/2 mile and had to give up faster, cheaper services with GCI; our only choice is ACS. We are LUCKY to get 1mb upload speeds. Oh, and their tech service: only M-F so if you go down on the weekend or at night, forget about it. Not only that, but you can't actually schedule a time for them to come to you. All you can do is call every morning, sit on hold for 45 minutes, to find out if the ticket was assigned. If it was, they say, 99.99999 % chance someone will show up today. So you basically have to cancel your life to be there all day. If you tell them you can't, well then you are actually really screwed b/c they will postpone you but it doesn't mean they'll come the next day! Our whole neighborhood has problems and ACS says they can't make it faster; we are too far from their "switch center." Yet 1/2 mile farther from that center, GCI can do better? Really? And, we are only 1 mile from UAF... it's not like we are in Ester or Fox or Goldstream Valley... Even Ester gets service that's as fast as us. So, no, ACS, it's not beyond your control. If you wanted to invest in the infrastructure to improve the customer experience and options, you would. You simply won't. Apparently we aren't worth it to you. You have us by the short hairs and all we can do is give you our money and bend over. read more

EVERY SINGLE month they've messed up the bill and since I've moved to California it's taken them forever to fix my phone. I've had to SEND IT BACK 3 TIMES for them to fix the 3G. It's been over 2 months!! I realize I'm roaming on Verizon towers but the lady that sold me the phone assured me it would be no different than being in Alaska. Limited customer support. No support after hours to resolve when networks are "down."

Currently on hold with ACS about my recently acquired home internet (DSL). Been on hold 40 mins so far. It took them 3 weeks (no joke) to get it up and running from when I first scheduled an install. I am on hold now to close that account because the connection is unusably slow. Promised 3mbps and get less than a tenth of that. Paying $70/m currently. These guys make GCI seem almost sane. A tiny effort could make customer's life much easier but this company just doesn't care! If you have set up an automatic payment and think you don't need to worry about every month's bill, think again. If by any reason, this company can't charge you, they said "we will send you system-generated automatic call" and that is, no more until you noticed that they cut off the service. First of all, did they even check these system-generated calls went through? No. Second, you kept receiving exact the same email "Your Alaska Communications Local billing statement for Account #xxxx is now available!", even it's past due. Did they ever care to put some warning there? No. Did this company want to improve their service? No, they continue to charge you late fee. I had a horrible experience with ACS's supervisor Jasmine. Jasmine was very rude and condescending. I called to ask if ACS was going to improve their upload internet speeds? What I thought would be a simple answer turned into being patronize by Jasmine. Jasmine tone was very aggressive and lacked the art of customer service. At first I didn't see any point of telling your company about the conversation I had with this impolite employee of your company, but I am sure that hearing this incident, you will take some time to educate your employee on her poor customer service before she cause loss of business in the future. As she holds a supervisor position in your company, you should be concerned about the image of your company. read more

I usually hit this store when I shop for a new phone or get a screen protector. Sometimes it can be maddening trying to get service, especially when they are understaffed and don't seem to have a care that there is a line. I was watching the 3 service reps looking at their computer screens with no customers and wondered what are each of them doing that they aren't assisting people. Maybe they had something going on on their computers. This store has a couple of other businesses attached to the building so the parking lot is always full and it's small so navigating in and out can be a pain. Still doesn't stop me from going here though as the location is convenient. read more

ACS is as good as it gets when it comes to living in Alaska. No internet limit, like GCI and although it might be slightly slower, you don't get an internet cap. When I was using GCI, my internet capped at about 10 days. This means that the broadband that I payed $79 a month for with phone and TV included became totally obsolete. Now, without the phone and TV plan, GCI charges you another $50 for not taking up their plan and you still get an internet cap. After 10 days pass in the month and I go from 256k internet to a speed that is less than dial-up. It's pretty ridonkulous. I can't even stream youtube videos at 260p. So far with ACS I don't ever have problems with the internet just freezing on me. Price doesn't vary much from GCI and yes I do have slightly slower internet. HOWEVER, now I never worry about using too much internet and I never have problems with the internet. GCI is really shit service that isn't worth paying for when you use internet like I do. read more

I just hung up the phone with ACS's manager Isaac. That was the worst example of customer service I have ever had. As their representative he just threw away many thousands of dollars of advertising, internet, phone line, & future products. As well as, the negative customer testimonial concerning my experience with this business. I'm a little shocked at the negative reviews I've had nothing but insanely good customer service with ACS. The other day I finally needed a new modem because mine was 10 years old and just needed to be updated. When I called I spoke with a lady who was super kind and efficient, she transferred me to tech-support who answered my question and solved my problem within less than a minute he told me I needed a new modem and he would have it waiting for me when I got there. I drove down immediately their corporate office is 10 minutes from my house and sitting right there at the front was the modem with my name on it. All these negative reviews I don't understand because that is unbelievable how amazing this company is and how wonderful of a job they did. My hats off to you ACS thanks for your customer service and professional employees. I would highly recommend this company to a family member or friend read more

I just found out, after having internet service with Alaska Communications for 7 years, that they have been charging me $89 per month for over two years when they should've been charging me $79 a month. I was never directly informed of the rate change for this service. Upon asking what my options were and what they were willing to do to right this situation, I was told they would do nothing, and it was my responsibility to make sure I'm getting the best deal. They were willing to lose a long term customer over a questionable practice, therefore this is a company I will no longer patronize. Figure if I'm going to be taken advantage of I might as well be getting a better quality (faster) product. Looks like I'm heading to GCI. Internet options in Anchorage are terrible at best, and Alaska Communications is the worst of the worst. read more

ACS is great. I switched over from GCI which is more than double the price for the same service. My internet connection is just as fast and I don't have to worry about data caps. I've had no problems at all the last 3 months of service and the I've always been able to get through to a real person, here in Anchorage, If I had any questions. First off, I appreciate the fact that Alaska Communications Systems has retained the unlimited usage model for their wired internet offerings. As an ACS customer for about 12 years this is the one thing that has kept me doing business with them. That being said, I think the main reason that they have maintained the unlimited usage model is the fact that given the speeds that they offer it is the only way that they can keep any customers. I have been trying to upgrade my package to something over 1 Mbps for the last two years but each time that I try i am told that 1 Mbps is the fastest possible for my area due to the distance from the central hub. If I lived outside of the city of Anchorage or even on the outskirts I could understand this. However this is not the case, In fact I live 2.5 miles away within a large residential neighborhood near the University. It is really a shame that we in Alaska are limited to only 2 real choices in Internet providers both of which charge rates of nearly double the rate in the lower 48 all the while delivering less than half of the service and value. read more

This review is for ACS internet based out of Juneau. The good: it's actually unlimited and it never gets throttled. Customer service is pretty good with very little wait time and honest answers if you ask the right questions. The ugly: make sure to ask, before you sign up, what the speed of the internet is in your area. The bad: it is sloooooow in Juneau (10Mbps). That's barely a 1MBps download. Have fun downloading a game or having more then two people streaming at the same time. There are constant breaks in the service throughout the day too. So while you're downloading or watching Netflix after a long week at work there is a good chance of having to wait 5 to 10 minutes while the service stabilizes itself. You might also have to wait a few days to a few weeks before experiencing any of this due to how long it takes for a tech to come out, test your phone line, hook the phone line into your wall and modem and say "ok, we're all done!". I honestly don't know why anyone would choose this service over GCI. If you're a single person you could pay about the same amount, have x20 the speed and a speed cap of 300gb. If you just want some just for email and internet browsing then you could go for the smallest 40gb package and save money. GCI does not charge for overages on their internet service anymore. They throttle it back to around 500Kbps for the rest of the month after you reach your limit and your browser will tell you when you're at 90% before taking you to whatever page you were going to. The only way I could see someone using this service is if they have a big family and would rather see their kids outside instead of on their devices, cause that's where they're going to be. It may look like I'm shilling GCI, I kind of am, but it would be the better of two evils is what I'm trying to get across. Alaska just sucks when it comes to internet. So slow unreliable service or fast service that comes with a speed cap and a little more expensive. Take your pick. read more

ACS is not even worth one star their service is so bad. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR YOUR MONEY ON ACS!! Their internet service sucks, big time!!!!!! We have had on going issues with them for several years. We were paying for DSL and getting dial up service, our internet goes out regularly and we can not pay bills, let alone stream Net Flix or Amazon videos. We pay for 1 Gig and usually get 0.25 Mb if we are lucky. When you call with a problem the techs treat you like you are an imbecile and have no idea what you are talking about, when in reality they do not know what they are doing. They have told me the reason I can not get full strength is I have too many devices on line, when in fact I am only using one device. They have repeatedly promised they are upgrading their services for several years and we have seen our services go down more and more. At one point we were paying for 3 Mbps and getting 1.5 Mbps which worked for us as it was the best we had had ever and they told us we could not do that. We asked why not, when we were actually getting service and they said because it was not offered in our area. They have told me that one reason we have not been up graded is the "box" they need to access is under the road????? They are continually putting in trouble tickets and coming out to the house with the threat the if the problem is in our house we will have to pay for the repair. The problem is never in the house. They do some sort of tweak and it works fine for a few days and then BAM it is goes down again. We have waited a week or more for them to come out to the house on several occasions. I have told them repeatedly that one issue appears to be water in the lines as every time we get a good down pour our service goes out again. They have never pulled the lines to check them. They repeatedly talk to us as if we are imbeciles, and know nothing, when in fact my husband has a degree in educational technology and has dealt with the wiring of systems, and such during his career. He knows more than they do on some things. They continually tell us that they have to send a tech out, but often times once we call them things seems to miraculously start working again. I am so sick of their crap and their lies. We are switching providers to someone who will give us service that will work. They are loosing us as telephone customers, internet customers, and webpage owners. I have a feeling that they will go belly up soon as everyone I know who has them is switching to GCI. read more

Used ACS for home phone, internet and cell phones from 2006-2010. Switched cell service to a national carrier for convenience when traveling in 2010. Since ACS sold their cell services their service to residential customers has gone to crap. Have only had internet for the past few years. Supposed to be guaranteed 15 Mbps down. Lucky to get 5 Mbps. When it goes out, which is weekly, cannot get credit on my bill. When we moved in December, it took 6 weeks to switch service to the new house. Only got a 4 week credit on billing. Can only contact someone during regular business hours. Heaven help you get a live person to pick up if they have issues anywhere. It's like they see a problem, so they don't answer the phones to tell people anything. They don't update their outages on their website either. They don't reply to voice messages, emails or FB Messenger messages in any timeframe that could be interpreted as timely. Tomorrow morning (10/2/17) they are getting their DSL modem back and I'm done. I can switch my cell phone to an unlimited plan for less than I'm paying ACS right now. And I can watch a movie without it buffering every 30 seconds as well. Why don't they do everyone a favor and either get out of residential service or sell the whole company to GCI or Verizon. They couldn't muck it up any worse than the current management has. read more

I will give ACS 0 star, if I can. We have been an ACS customer over 15yrs only because we have no other choice here. In the past they lost our Internet connection for weeks when they upgraded our modem. We ordered internet speed upgrade this time, and they lost our Caller ID feature for TWO MONTHS! When we complained, a Customer Service Supervisor Jasmin offered a small amount of credit and said: "My supervisor, Manager Rebecca, will talk to you, but you will lose the offer. I have been with ACS for 12 years for internet service, but in the last couple years service has gone down with long phone wait times when trying to get internet fixed. The 10mb speed always slows down when it raines. Finally had it with temporary outages and degraded services and left. I found the customer service people rude and it is silly you can't find the local number on the website but are referred to an 888 number - what, 907 area code not good enough for you ACS? i bought a house with a acs cable line going through a tree in the backyard. not only is it a fire hazard but i've been calling since february 2016 to have it removed because i"m having the tree removed but it cant be done with the cable going through it. its now 8/3/16 spoke to a manager who said it would be a $250 charge even though it was improperly installed and i"ve been calling for over 6 months. read more

We just switched our internet away from ACS after many years. We got tired of waiting for faster speed. We were paying $89 for 3 Mbps. Other customers are paying $110 for 15 Mbps. When we signed up to months ago, we were told that regular internet access was $79(!!) a month, and that landline phone service was only 19.99 a month, for a total bill of $99/month. There is no real alternative locally to that sky-high rate for simple internet access, so we agreed -- and $20/month seemed reasonable for a landline. When the first and second bills came we were shocked to see that we were being charged more than $150/month! It turned out that, in addition to local taxes (no surprise there), there was $30 in "surcharges" attributable to the phone, AND they were charging us 10 cents a minute to call relatives in a nearby town! Neither the mystery surcharges NOR the charge for calling nearby towns was disclosed when they were pressuring us to add a landline for "only" 19.99 a month. When canceling I asked whether it would be possible for some of the undisclosed charges to be credited back to our account -- the answer was "no, they (presumably meaning management?) would NEVER agree to that." read more

I live in Indian - this is the worst service ever. The customer service for home internet are deny deny deny. Internet prices of 85.00 a month will NOT buy viewing a broadband speed video - I.e. a class video for online classes. I've had much better experience using MTA and GCI for 1/2 the price. ACS sells internet they don't provide - and then tell you the customer -you're not buying the high end package - seriously! 85.00 for local phone - no frills and internet at 1mg - they can't even provide that!! I tested them multiple time and they always come in below what they say they provide! Its the difference of viewing the video or NOT. I've talked to the internet support people 20 times - they are pompous overpaid and worthless! The FTC should investigate ACS for representing a product to the consumer they can't or don't provide. I'd move from a state where lighting fast unlimited internet access for as low as $19.99 to Anchorage, Alaska internet here's suck. GCI can have super fast but no unlimited for much much more expensive 200gb data only last my family 8 to 10 day and we have to wait 20 days to get our internet speed back up again. This is unacceptable. GCI need to go out of business. Bring in Comcast, Time Warner, and Charter or CoX. read more

I live on the East side of Anchorage and just Swapped my internet service to ACS from GCI. What a great experience from the customer service agents to the Tech that came over to do the install that went above and beyond to ensure my internet install was top quality. He dug a hole to replace the old and rusted splices in the line leading to my house and replacing all the components in the junction box in the easement behind my house that had not been opened for 30 years. after all said and done I got 30 mbps and unlimited data. All my online Xbox 1 games run flawlessly along with amazon prime and netfix with no worries of data overage charges from GCI. Ok for those who think 30mbps is to slow and GCI is 50 to 100 mbps you do not know the truth, I can check my internet speed (bandwidth) on my Xbox 1 and GCI advertises fast speed, but if you read the fine print its says up to that high speed. GCI is not a dedicated line to your house its like a party line, the more people on the line lower your speed (bandwidth). For me early morning I was running 35 to 45 mbps and at night when everyone is on line I got 20 to 25 mbps but Gci advertises and makes me pay for 50mbps its a lie. With ACS it is a dedicated line not a party type line and I get a constant 30 mbps and never changes no matter how many people are on line, Now my online Xbox 1 games never freeze up and do not get booted any more when my internet speed drops as people join the GCI party line. It is worth the time to have a ACS check if your area has been up graded and you can get high speed internet. .The cost is $79 a month unless your are military like myself then its $72 with military discount, its worth your time to have ACS unlimited internet and to get away from GCI. read more

Piss poor service " your business is important to us" I doubt that . I am having trouble with the internet service. Called tech support and was told a service tech needs to come to the house and check the outside line and replace the modem. So I scheduled a service call for today, Monday, was told someone would be out within 8 hours. I made several calls to get an update as to when I could expect the tech to show up. After my third call I was told that I was the last one on the tech's list and most likely won't get to me today. WHAT!!! If I was last on the list why coundn't the tech call and tell me it would be in the late afternoon. I said if he does not show today then I should be first on the list for tomorrow right? No... Tuesday is already scheduled; they might not get to reschedule me until the end of the week. I've been with ACS when it used to be ATU for 40 years and this is how a long time customer is treated. An 8 hour block is antiquated, every other company either gives you a four hour window, or a two hour window, not 8 hours. As far as internet speed goes, I was paying for the 1 mbps but while doing a speed test from ACS, I learned that I was getting .8, and that wasn't bad. Since when is receiving 80% of something you're paying 100% for good? Shouldn't I be getting a 20% rebate? I do not recommend ACS to anyone. read more
