My husband and I decided to give our little cat to the SPCA. It was a sad decision for us and we felt very bad about doing it. I exchanged emails with a person named Jillian. The emails were friendly so I felt positive.. I arrived at the shelter and Jillian said she had not been emailing me, and some other woman had. So she lied about exchanging emails. Our cat was really upset in her carrier and I almost changed my mind. She took our cat and she refused to let me see where our cat would be placed . She said something about a quarantine which was totally ridiculous. Our cat's shots were very up to date. Then Jillian had me fill out a very lengthy registration for our cat's history on a super tiny laptop which was incredibly difficult to use. I finally was done filling out the forms. I decided to just look through the window to try to see my cat. Jillian came over to me and said in a very rude tone, nothing is needed from you, so you can leave! I was very upset that Jillian would speak to me in such a horribly rude manner. I had donated a lot of towels, to the shelter and they were still sitting on a chair when I left. Not one word of thanks! I looked at my cat on the SPCA website and I felt sick! Our cat was sitting on a stained pet bed and half of the bed was hanging off a shelf. It did not look like a big space and there were no windows. I regret very much giving our cat to SPCA. Jillian should not be working there at all. She's a terrible example of customer service. I will never recommend SPCA to anyone in the community. I would go pay to get out cat back if I could. I am very worried about her. They have a weird rule about that though! read more

Dude they were so wonderful. I was such an erratic mess trying to get my cat spayed and was such an emotional turbulent thing and they handled me with absolute Grace and accommodated to me the best of their ability. I am so grateful for their kindness and their understanding that life is sometimes super tricky and people are a little nuts sometimes, but again they were totally flexible and understanding and willing to work with me. I took my dog in to the spay clinic. I was a little nervous for my girl. The staff was great and talked me through the process and recovery. It was expected to take 5 days and she was back to her self in 3 days. We had to slow her down co finish the recovery. Everyone was great and she was treated very well. read more

Please don't listen to all of the negative reviews. I have had nothing but incredible service and care for all of the animals I have brought here. Customer service has always been very helpful and polite when I call. I had to reschedule at the last minute and it was taken care of quickly and professionally. The process to request a spay can seem cumbersome but the person that answered when I called the first time walked me through the process happily. The fact that it is about 5 times less money to have a dog spayed/neutered here helps as well. read more

For several decades I have been taking all my pooches to SPCA clinic for their vaccinations. Staff at SPCA clinic have always been pleasant. Since I have always spaced my pooches vaccinations about 1-2 months apart, it is affordable. I also receive a receipt that notes when future vaccinations are due. read more

"Oh you never call or text us" "did you not read the door sign or come in" I told her I was here since 2:30 and I wasn't sure if I as able to text the number since the phone was not answering. She said "I understand, we are too busy to answer the phones today. It isn't guaranteed to see you" I asked her if she needs my vaccination list for my dog. This was my first time coming to Alaska SPCA but had heard good things from a few of my co-workers and decided to make an appointment for the dog to be neutered a few months ago. I very much appreciated having everything laid out on the website -- from information about the procedures, services provided, estimated costs, how to make an appointment and the ability to schedule it online at your convenience. I was contacted approximately a day later to accept the appointment that was available & to pay for the service in advance to secure my spot. My appointment was for about a month out (which I think is very fast for a low cost surgery appointment) and detailed instructions sent to my email were very clear about the process and expectations from the owner prior to the surgery. At check in I went to the front door and provided our name to a caregiver; and was handed a beeper that would buzz when it was time for my dog to be brought into the clinic. I thought it would be a bit of a wait due to how many of the cars were in the parking lot (and was told it could be up to 30 mins) but it was maybe 5 minutes or less before we were called in. My husband was called around 11:00 am to let us know that our dog was ready to be picked up (way earlier than I expected... I was anticipating getting off of work at 3 pm and having to potentially wait until 5:30 pm when they close). I didn't get off of work until 3 pm so I went to the clinic after. I was offered a chance to speak with a vet or technician about after care instructions, and handed his paperwork. Everyone was pleasant, and seemed to really care. There was even a little cuddling and petting as the animals were leaving which I thought was very sweet, as it's obvious the caregivers love animals. We were sent home with a detailed packet of paperwork that included aftercare instructions, a cone of shame (to prevent licking) and pain medication for post-op pain relief (they even split the tablets into individual doses to make it easy for pet owners. So thoughtful). This was SO APPRECIATED. I have had many animals altered and even with very expensive clinics pain relief is typically not given, and if it is it is an added cost that many decline due to cost. I loved the fact that it was given to every client so clients that maybe did not have the extra funds would not have to decline due to cost factors. THANK YOU SO MUCH. Ragnar is one day post op and is healing well; his pain is being managed well and the cone is preventing any mishaps. But we have a number to reach out if anything happens and that gives me such peace of mind. Alaska SPCA doesn't just send you on your way and hope for the best. Also... if you are diligent with their instructions and make sure you use the cone for the specified period; they will help with any suturing problems/complications. It's worth the hassle to make sure your pet heals well... All in all I felt like the Alaska SPCA did a great job: from ease of service, clear instructions and care rendered. I would not hesitate to return, or come to the clinic for care if needed. Thank you for all that you do for the animals. read more

staff were great I had 2 animals and they helped coordinate their appointments close together and really saved us on a last minute emergency without completely breaking the bank. 10/10 experience from these guys. these negative reviews are from people who never had to pay a $3500 pet emergency vet and get denied finance with no other option than to scramble for that money. nobody was rude they went above and beyond. read more

I took my cat Duke to be neutered at this vet and I was satisfied with the customer service. all the techs were so nice! but when I got my cat back he reeked of urine. when I got him home I realized they had just let him pee all over himself while waiting for me to pick him up. I do understand they can't have a bath but he should've at least been wiped down if they would've taken the time to check on him and realize he had urinated on himself... I just feel as the pet care could've been even just a little bit better. I understand this is a low cost clinic and what not but their care for the pets they take in should at least meet their customer service skills. read more

The people don't care about the animals. They are rude and uncaring. The following shows that this establishment does not care about the animals. After seeing a dog who has cushings on their website I went to them to share what my vet recommended for my dog with Cushings and give them the empty bottles so they knew what it was. As my dogs hair has regrown I know it works, it's inexpensive and can be gotten from Amazon. The person we spoke with was unsympathetic, cut us off, and showed she really just didn't care to even mention it to their vets and more than likely just threw the bottles away. read more

I brought my puppy in on 6/22 for his shots. I got there at 10:30 because yappy hour started at 11 there was a sign outside that they didnt open that day till 12 I left and came back at 11:15 When I got back they were already seeing animals. Also, I asked if my dog needed a deworming shot cause he got one in May and SPCA said if he is not pooping out worms then he is fine. 4 days later he pooped out worms. I think ALL PUPPIES should have the treatment. I then had to take him to the vet for this. When he could have had a treatment on the 22nd of June. I was not happy. Also, You call and they do not answer the phone I have also sent them an email and no response. I just called on July 2nd and their mailbox is full. read more

got my cat spayed here. gave him back to me and said he had an accident and i could clean him up more if needed. he stunk. i brought him back to see if they could clean him more due to me being nervous not wanted to compromise his area doing it myself, they said they did all they could but i can try waterless shampoo uh why don't you do that!? I just expressed the fact I was too nervous to do anything myself. i hope i can properly clean him and he doesn't get an infection. read more

Very unhappy with that Anchorage SPCA very bad communicationeen the staff I checked in with two separate vet techs neither of them let the front desk know so that made me sit in my truck for over an hour I'm also going to add that I had a 4 o'clock appointment they asked me to come in early I was here before 315 like they asked and still didn't get checked in until past 4 o'clock yes I do know they are very busy but when I was there they were not very busy I hate to make this review but that was not OK very disappointed read more

The ASPCA Vet Clinic is a compassionate business in a central location. Both veterinatians are absolute sweethearts who really care about your furry family members. They have been gentle, patient with our questions and are a great value for the care they provide. The care here is just as good as VCA Bering Sea's clinic which is really saying something! There is a discount of you bring more than one family fur baby in at the same time (which makes sense if you are treating for something like an upper respiratory infection -- you don't want them passing it back and forth!). In the past we have used the ASPCA for spaying and neutering as well as vaccinations and scannable pet IDing but now they offer all of that and so much more! If you are on a budget yet don't want to skimp on your family member's health -- this is a great solution! read more

I am so disappointed in this group! I have never had issues with any other spca I've been to in more than one state. they will not answer the phone or call me back after more than a week or more each time I leave a message. I have already paid for my cats to be spayed due to them saying it needed to be paid on the day I make the appointment. My appointment is a month away and my cats are siblings and I can't stand the thought is keeping one in a cage all the time Until next month. it's very frustrating especially when I've paid for both already and they won't talk to me. I will not be going back ever again. I get they say call volumes are high but this is sad. read more

I hate to say anything negative about what it s supposed to be a non profit to benefit animals and owners but not a good experience at all. First... they never answer the phone. Nearly impossible to reach a human I left voice message and never received a call back. I emailed and it took at least a week for a reply. Once I was lucky enough to get someone, I seized the opportunity and scheduled an appointment for my dog to be neutered. The appointment was over a month out and you prepay. We live 2 hours away, so we had to get up at 4am to get to the clinic for the 7-7:45am check in. Was in the clinic at 7:10 and politely reminded the check in person that we lived 2 hours away. Very rushed with the check in. Didn't have a good feeling at all. We expected to get a call around 1 or 2 at the latest. By 3:30 we tried to call 7 times and no one answers so we drive to the clinic... mind you they have had our fasting dog for over 8 hours already. THEY HAD NOT EVEN STARTED THE PROCEDURE! The $95 fee is considerably less than the $170 at our vet, but in hindsight I would gladly pay the $75 difference. You get what you pay for. This has to be the worst run clinic I've ever seen. I know we were not the last check in this morning at 7:10... so why are we the last out at 5:30. read more

Avoid if at all possible. If you HAVE to use them know in advance there is a long wait, no one answers the phone, and professionalism is sub-par at best. Communication from them is almost non-existent once you've paid your deposit so good luck if you have questions about your pet. read more

This is a low cost planned parenthood option for pets. I have a vet for my pooches, but if I was in a pinch I would use this facility for the basic care cats and dogs require. Vaccinations are very reasonable, with rabies shots at $16. I brought in a friend's dog to get sterilized and the cost to spay was $100, with a bottle of pain meds at $5. She bounced back in one day, and her wound area and stitches were clean and well placed. Also, I found the service on the phone and in person very professional and patient; Some of the attitudes I witnessed from the patrons would have caused me to punch my own face out. My family has used this service for many years, and I'm thankful there is a low cost option available for responsible pet owners. read more

Where to even start. I do not live in Anchorage. It took two weeks to get ahold of anyone. Multiple calls to a line that was never picked up. A call to their adoption clinic to figure out email is the best way to get ahold of them and more time wasted there while waiting for a response. I get we are all busy. I set it aside and wasn't going to let it ruin my day. Today I showed up well before the 7-7:45 drop off. I was not expecting curbside and was not explained anything over email or phone, it threw me off but again I brushed it off. The girls who checked me in were incredibly rude and seemed super annoyed that I took a second to get my mask out of my pocket while my dog pulled on the leash while we were OUTSIDE and keeping our distance. Later I show up to get my dog and its chaos. There was no explanation given over the phone that it there is a different processes to pick your dog up. I watched a man rip the door out of an older ladies hands who was trying to help me get answers and slam it shut while we all stand out in the rain wondering what to do next. I go back to my truck, super confused, stressed out because I know the number I'm about to call won't get answered. I am inside MY truck which is OUTSIDE in an open parking lot. The manager comes out and threatens to keep my dog until I put a mask on. The other two girls didn't fuss, but this older woman with glasses and short grey hair was BEYOND mean. I told her no, I'm still following the mandate and just want my dog. That I am confused and just want my dog and they're making this super difficult. She refused to give me my dog until I broke down crying and put a mask on OUTSIDE in my personal vehicle. I've contacted several sources regarding the legalities and will be taking action against how I was mistreated today. read more

The desk and techs and doctors are GREAT. The prices are AWESOME compared to PetStop or VCA. The rest of this review is highly negative. Appts for a doc can be 3 mos out, even if you just want a refill for a med which your dog's been on for years. I went to the Saturday AM clinic, for that purpose, got there 20 min before opening and did not see a doc until 3-1/2 hours had passed. In their defense they do triage, based on what you wrote signing in. Our 11 yo cat died of diabetes waiting for an appointment. By the time we went to PET it was too late. We have a kitten. Got in, no trouble (got there 15 min early), for 1st vaccination. Told me to come back 7/3. Closed. Sign said come back 7/7. Closed. Sign said come back 7/15. I understand it was COVID issues that were causing the problem. I actually checked their website the third time. The website did not accurately describe the actual process. Writing the boss, Kelly Donnelly, (kdonnelly@alaskaspca.org), rather than any empathy or helpful hints (which would have been MOST welcome, I'd been there 3 time by then with no booster), she incorrectly understood what their own website said, adding that sarcasm does not help. She was only defensive, further failing to appreciate that sarcasm is an art form that I share. Crap. Now it's back to VCA, because I cannot abide the way the place is run. read more

Kind of like Mollie's situation, the ASPCA lied to me about my fur baby's health condition. I asked the manager (rude white chick) that his papers said he was taking medicine, what is it that I need to buy? She replied with oh nothing he is fine. I would've absolutely adopted him despite the condition. Instead she lied and it almost cost the poor thing his life and he was in a lot of pain. Not to mention it definitely cost my wallet a good sum of money to get him the critical help he needed...thankfully I had emergency money saved up. I would say be cautious and request any medical papers available. Shelter animals always need to be adopted, but be aware of the possibilities when it comes to. And always be sure you are financially ready for an animals needs. read more

Took my German shepherd here to get neutered, his dew claw removed, and microchipped. After the surgery my dog seemed fine and all of his wounds/stitches appear to be healing just fine and he was completely back to normal the day after. It has been about a week and everything seems just fine. read more

I adopted a dog that immediately needed $1800 worth of medical care. I brought the problems to the attention of the SPCA before the adoption and they told me multiple times "she is fine". She is NOT fine and I have filed complaints with the Attorney General, Animal Control and BBB. Do not adopt animals from this shelter less you would like to rescue sick animals and get them the care they need. read more
