We were there in late July and they were opened on the weekends. Small open markets with local vendors selling crafts and snacks. Couple good trucks to get food. Our favorite was the one at the end selling fried cheese curds (yum!), reindeer hot dogs and funnel cakes.

Too much syrup, not much fresh watermelon

Located outside the Dimond Center Mall at 88th Avenue, this farmer's market is open in the summer Fri/Sat/Sun. We had some time to kill with the long day light so we stopped by for a snack! Got some good fried halibut and corn fritters ! Yum! They do have many Alaskan gifts, crafts, drawings, souvenirs but we were too busy eating! I don't recommend the watermelon drink at the Asian dessert place. It was full of syrup and not whole lot of watermelon. It was a rip off at $8.

Yelp 100 Challenge 2017 - # 74/100 Open on the weekends, it's a nice alternative to just phoning it in on the treadmill, just don't walk over to the deep fried food section when you're weight watching. As we made our way through the entrance, there were fresh fruit and vegetable stands. The vendor was giving out free samples of their white peaches, white nectarines, plums, cherries, raspberries, melons, and such. There were various booths of arts and crafts, native jewelry, clothing, nectars, smoked salmon, food stands, coffee, funnel cake, and so much more. Parking was across the street for $1.25 an hour which was more than enough time as we just wanted a quick stroll and get our funnel cakes to go.

With time to kill during the day in Anchorage, we stumbled upon this farmer's market and street fair. It was a Saturday and we wandered around mingling with the locals. There was a good selection of knick knacks and food to try. We found some folks selling nectar (not honey) and different teas. There were kettle corn and salmon vendors. The vendors were really generous with the tastings. I tried some pickles at a stand where they had mild to spicy levels of heat. There was a great vibe at the market because of the sunny weather and live music. It's a nice way to spend the afternoon if you have extra time to spare.

The market was so fun and gave me the opportunity to explore Alaskan culture. There were many adorable Alaskan four legged creatures, including Iditarod huskies! They also had delicious foods like corn and halibut. The corn fritters with honey butter were a favorite. My sister enjoyed the furs. Definitely a great place to visit!

Place is packed today! Enjoying the beautiful weather while munching on a BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwich and a side of fried Potstickers!

Summer has arrived and most importantly, the sun has finally arrived! With the beautiful weather on a Sunday afternoon, I couldn't think of a better place to go than the Saturday Market as the Anchorage Market & Festival is usually called. This seasonal weekend gathering is located in a parking lot by the corner of 3rd Ave and E St. directly across from the Anchorage Hilton Hotel with a great view of the Chugach Mountains looming in the background and the adjoining Anchorage Railroad at the base of the hill down the road from the market. The place was moderately packed with a majority of the crowds gathered by the food booths and more people gathered at the southwest corner to hear local musicians perform on stage. There are various tents set up that sell a wide variety of items usually catering to the tourist crowd such as souvenir t-shirts, arts and crafts made by local artists, Russian dolls, NFL clothing for pets, detailed animal wood carvings for display in the front yard, and of course, food. The food vendors were plentiful with a number of them lined up and down the third row from the main entrance. I decided to try a BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwich from Smokehouse BBQ with cheese, onions, and sweet hickory sauce and an order of Fried Potstickers from Mei's Dumplings in the next tent over. Despite several people before me waiting, I only had to wait a couple of minutes for my food although I suspect they prep their menu items ahead of time to keep up with the rush. The Pork Sandwich was delicious with plenty of sautéed onions and melted cheese to complement the thick chunks of meat. The Potstickers were just as good with the dumplings lightly fried and flavorful chunks of pork and diced scallions topped with soy sauce. Other vendors include O'Brady's Burgers and Brew with elk and buffalo burgers as the featured items, Jeepney's Filipino Cuisine with pork adobo nachos, Potato Twist with curly fries stacked like towers, as well as other local vendors serving salmon quesadillas, Russian Pelmeni dumplings, fried halibut with fries or corn fritters, glazed doughnut bacon cheeseburgers with raspberry jam, and fireweed honey ice cream. A much-needed weekend event to mark the end of a long winter.

We went to the mall looking for gifts to take back home but everything was closed. Luckily this market was right outside with a few vendors. We got what we needed and they had a decent selection of food and gifts. Happy to have found it despite not knowing it existed.

Every Saturday, there is a market opened at this location. Regular days, I think it is just a parking lot. Vendors selling food, sweets, clothing, jewelry, accessories & etc. They have live music & face paining for the kids. Totally a family outing event!! Not only the tourist but also lots of local people shopping there. No charge for admission.

This was a very fun market to experience and totally different than what is experienced back in WI. This market is more about the arts/craft and food than fresh vegetables. We may have only saw one or two fresh vegetable stands and they looked picture pretty. Coming from WI we aren't use to paying that high of a price ($8 a lb for green beans vs $2, over $1 lb for cabbage bs .29 etc. but experiencing the crafts and foods that aren't our every day experience was the fun tourist part. My husband bought me gold nugget earrings, and we bought some spicy cashew brittle. The kettle corn was the best we ever tasted and two in our party of 5 purchased bags. Other foods experienced were from the l Russian food cart-Borscht soup-$7, beef piroshki-$9 and beef pelmeni (dumplings)-$11, Polynesian food stand -Kalyan's pork, bbq ribs, beef chowmein, sausage, rice and macaroni salad all for $15, reindeer hotdog-$6, and some kind of battered balls on a stick which we can't recall the name and didn't know what kind of meat it was. Everything was tasty and a great experience for tourists. There is ample parking in lots surrounding the market or on the weekend you can park at meters downtown for free.

    Kids area!

What a wonderful random stumbling for a visitor. This is where I had my first reindeer sausage, and it benefited from the fun outdoor fair mental bonus. Fresh fried donuts, reindeer sausage, and other yummies on a brisk spring day. Far more than food here, though, with items ranging from chotchkies to neat-looking childrens' books. And one enterprising soul set up a booth selling just fresh (relatively speaking) fruit in an area where it's not plentiful. Great stop after wandering along the Tommy Knowles Coastal Trail. And yes, Yelp has the location utterly incorrect.

Im not sure if it is possible to be "in love" with a local market, but if it is, then I am with the Anchorage market.

It was a great help to have while my disabled husband was needing more and more attention. Now, 3 years later and their produce is still THE BEST. Better even than my favorite grocery store. Customer service is always stellar, there never seems to be a mistake in my box or my credit card. You can choose the size of box, what goes into your box, and even choose how frequently the box is delivered. What could be better? And the convenience of fresh produce coming to your door every week can't be beat, I've even added local milk deliveries (though I wish I could automatically have it come each week without having to add it each time). I get the harvest box which is perfect for my family of four. My amazing 7 year old daughter decided to become a vegetarian June 2012, since she has gone meatless the rest of the family only eats meat a couple times a week (I could probably give it up but my husband never could) so we go through a lot of produce. I also enjoy that the produce is so varied. There are so many things I've never tried and I love receiving items I wouldn't regularly buy because then I get to try new things. For example, I never buy any squash besides pumpkin and I've bee having fun preparing a variety of squash recipes. Also, I had never heard of Rainbow Chard before getting these deliveries and it is the most beautiful green and I love making Rainbow Chard Alfredo, sooooo good! My experience with Full circle deliveries has been awesome! Though I do think they could replace the box with reusable totes. I get milk in a cool pack I have to return each week, I wouldn't mind doing the same with totes.
