    A few days post op!

I can't believe this business is the only emergency vet in the state. So grateful for them. My 5 pound chihuahua had been sick since a Sunday and was progressively getting worse and worse as the week went on. I wasn't sure if she had a stomach bug or what. I called our normal vet on a Wednesday after she showed no signs of improvement despite at home care, and they couldn't see us that day. They referred us to Midnight Sun, who when I called, also couldn't see us that day. Based off of my dogs symptoms, Midnight Sun recommended taking my dog to the emergency clinic. I called the clinic, explained what was happening, and they said to come in. I got there around 9 am Wednesday morning and there was only 1 patient ahead of me. The front desk staff was very kind, helped me check in, and I waited about 1.5 hours in the waiting room before being seen. A few patients came in after us and were more urgent than our case, therefore were seen before us. The vet tech that helped us was fantastic. I wish I had remembered their name because they were so kind, straight forward, thorough and treated my dog with love and care. They were actually able to pretty much diagnose what was going on, but said the Dr would be in shortly to go over our options after dealing with some additional emergency cases. I think I waited maybe 30 minutes between getting into our room, meeting with the tech, to when the Dr came in. The Dr was SO incredibly kind and caring. Honestly I liked her more than the vet we've been going to. After meeting with her, I felt like my dog was in really good hands despite how uncertain and scary the situation was. The vet tech came back into our room, explained that they thought my dog either had pancreatitis or an abcessed anal gland, went over the entire list of treatment options/diagnostics/cost estimate. I ended up having to leave my dog at the clinic for several hours and she had emergency surgery to drain and cleanse an anal abcess. From checking in at 9 am, the clinic called me to pick my dog up around 2 pm. They explained everything they did to her, and sent us home with some take home medication and aftercare instructions. I am so grateful and blown away by the kindness, compassion, and care everyone at this clinic displayed towards my sweet chihuahua. The front desk staff told me they kept her up front at the check in desk with them as she was waking up from the sedation. It's so scary when our innocent pets are sick. I truly felt my dog was safe in their care and trusted the Dr to ensure her safety during sedation and the procedure. ADDITIONALLY - the cost of emergency treatment was substantially less than what I had anticipated. The whole ordeal cost me $1,200, which included a military discount. I was pretty shocked at this, because our normal vet in Anchorage quoted us between $2K-$4K just for a routine dental cleaning. I just think it's kind of odd that the emergency treatment ended up costing less than a routine dental cleaning. I'm extremely grateful and my chihuahua is on the road to recovery thanks to these guys.

Recently our miniature schnauzer ingested something toxic. We don't know exactly what it was but rushed her to the PET clinic once she showed symtpoms. The receptionist recognized her symptoms quickly and quickly got her to the back for treatment. We are so grateful to the wonderful staff, the technicians and especially to Drs. S. Yeltazie and A. Taylor for saving our sweet girl. Our baby is back to normal and living her best life again! Thank you to the wonderful and caring staff at PET!!!

I've had a few experiences with this place, from bringing animals in to other's bringing their animals in, and in a pinch this place delivers. Recently, new neighbors moved in and let their cats out. I've had to let them know to keep their cats out of my yard due to my having to chase them away from my trees with nesting feathered families (yes, am looking into deterrents). So, public service announcement, if Bird Treatment and Learning Center is closed bring them here and they will stabilize bird until Bird TLC is open. This place also takes other injured animals and specialty surgeries. Once, I did have to pay for a dog bite my pet gave another , and it was settled easily. I wish I could deal with some people with a bite like dogs do sometimes, but here we are. (I'm looking at you, crazy cat lady). Will come again when necessary.

From start to finish, everything about this visit exceeded our expectations. They were incredibly helpful over the phone, walking us through next steps and using their waitlist call-back system, which was such a game changer. We were able to call, explain our dog's injury, and then wait comfortably at home until they called us to head in. Once we arrived, we were seen within about 15 minutes, and the entire visit took around 30 minutes total, so efficient and stress-free. The staff and doctor were so kind, calm, and reassuring, which made a stressful situation feel completely manageable. You can tell they genuinely care about both pets and their owners. On top of the excellent care, the ambience is beautiful and cozy, welcoming space with a warmly lit fireplace that feels homey yet modern. It honestly doesn't feel like a typical vet office at all. 10/10 would recommend Midnight Sun Animal Hospital to anyone looking for compassionate, efficient, and high-quality veterinary care. As I had my female senior cat there, I asked Dr Beck to look at her teeth. He brushed me aside saying "Well she's a senior cat so her teeth are where a senior cat's teeth are." (Well, Dr Numbeck, I had a senior cat who really had teeth issues and I really wanted this cat to be looked at for the same.) Ahem. $360 dollars. The next time I went in with the same cat, I asked for her toenails to be clipped. A $400.00 appointment and Dr Dumbeck said he was busy and "forgot" to clip her nails. A month later I had my cat in a carrier and stopped in to get her blood taken. Multiple vets at the establishment had told me that I could just "stop on by" and have her blood taken by the technicians. SO, I went there and the redhead at the front desk treated me horribly. I wasn't looking dressy (because I'd spent a good hour on my hands and knees finding the cat and getting her into her carrier), and when I asked "Why? The vets said I could bring her by to get a blood sample at any time?" and saying that it'd already cost me close to $800.00 and the simple things I'd asked for her hadn't been done, the dark-haired other desk assistant completely BRAYED at the next customer to come on up. She brayed like a donkey to drown out my questions. The red-head made an appt for the next day and was a complete snark to me. I went home and called back to cancel the appointment and the BRAYING desk assistant answered my call and BRAYED at me as I was complaining about the redhead and her lack of de-escalation skills. I asked all my cats records be forwarded to me and told the office manager quite clearly that I'd been bringing my animals here since 2008 but I would no longer be bringing my business there. Dr Beck, and those two girls at the front desk, I hope that place 1) gets relocated because the access and parking is HELL and 2) start treating their clients as good people who are concerned about their animals and don't want to be treated like strident imbeciles.

She said something about a quarantine which was totally ridiculous. Our cat's shots were very up to date. Then Jillian had me fill out a very lengthy registration for our cat's history on a super tiny laptop which was incredibly difficult to use. I finally was done filling out the forms. I decided to just look through the window to try to see my cat. Jillian came over to me and said in a very rude tone, nothing is needed from you, so you can leave! I was very upset that Jillian would speak to me in such a horribly rude manner. I had donated a lot of towels, to the shelter and they were still sitting on a chair when I left. Not one word of thanks! I looked at my cat on the SPCA website and I felt sick! Our cat was sitting on a stained pet bed and half of the bed was hanging off a shelf. It did not look like a big space and there were no windows. I regret very much giving our cat to SPCA. Jillian should not be working there at all. She's a terrible example of customer service. I will never recommend SPCA to anyone in the community. I would go pay to get out cat back if I could. I am very worried about her. They have a weird rule about that though!
