Three days into adopting Sparky (12 weeks old then) he started having gastrointestinal crisis! We took him to VCA first and $500 into tests they said to bring him home, nothing more can be done. A friend suggested to take him to Cornerstone and Dr. Rapp and his team treated him for Parvovirus (as symptoms presented, despite having the vaccine). He received IV fluids over the weekend and Sparky got better and we got to take him home by Monday. They called VCA about Sparky's progress (VCA refunded us afterwards), and at Cornerstone they charged half of that (2-night hospital stay, meds, IV fluids etc.) for saving Sparky's life!!! It's been 10 years, and maybe time heals all wounds, and possibly problem people moving on to other jobs. A foster cat came to me extremely thin and in need of diagnosis from whatever ailed it. I called my regular vet and couldn't get in to see anyone for a week. My sister ran into a similar problem with when her new cat came down with a cold and she couldn't get an appointment for a while since it was so booked up (I do take pleasure in the fact that I regularly go to such a popular clinic) and came here the next day because they have a drop off policy; a vet will look over the pet in between appointments so a regular booking is not required. I swallowed my pride and called and was able to drop her off the next day, with results from her test the day after. She was quickly put on medication and within 3 weeks she's put on weight and is not banging on death's door. I am extremely appreciative of this hospital's drop-off policy, as well as the efficiency and courtesy with the front end staff on the phone and in person. I missed Dr. Rapp and am glad he's become the vet for this cat. I will still use my regular vet with my pooch, but in this instance he saved the cat's life. Would recommend. read more

Doctor told me they were overwhelmed and stressed out. Told me he doesn't give a shit about my situation. When i asking for the results of the Progesterone test. For some reason they could not give me the results because the doctor has to do that. All she had to tell me what the number. He calls me back and is a major dick. No need to use language like that with me especially over the phone and not to my face. I had a scheduled a c- section for my dog for the next day with this Dr Rap But decided to use a different veterinarian who was not stressed out and overwhelmed. He's a very compassionate, and caring vet who truly wants the best for your pets and can converse with you in a way that is clearly understanding. I tried Dr. Rapp after getting disgusted with the price gouging from other area veterinarians. He took wonderful care of my dog and completed all necessary work for half what the others wanted. His staff are great, too. They are all so kind. Then my neighbor's dog got hurt. He has just moved here from Soldotna and didn't have a vet so I gave him the #. At one point, we thought his dog would need to be put down. I went to the clinic to offer support and the staff were more kind and caring than I have had in most physician's offices. They were all sad. Dr. Rapp worked with the neighbor and they were able to save his pet's life by amputating. (bad broken leg) The joy on the faces of everyone in the office when they knew they weren't going to have to euthanize was something that could be physically felt. They CARE!!! read more

I am not giving this one star because of the bad reviews that I have read, or the fact they are 'not taking new clients' I am giving it because a five-year-old could have answered the phone better than the receptionist at Cornerstone did. She answered "This is Jane*" And so I had to ask her if I had reached Cornerstone Animal Hospital? She then replied "Yup." Very offputting. To be honest, I am not sorry that they had no openings available. There are previous complaints about both bad records handling and other issues with the front staff, and clearly, nothing has been done about this by the owners of this clinic. Hence the one star. I would honestly give negative stars if i could! After almost a year of loyalty, i can say confidently, this place f**** sucks. I had scheduled an appointment at 4 pm for what I thought was allergies (rashes+scabs+constant licking). They tried to tell me there was no appointment scheduled and when I had shown the proof of scheduling, they still treated me like I was the hold up. They 'examined' my dog for maybe 10 minutes and I want to emphasize on the maybe. They came to the conclusion that it was allergies but that I would probably never be able to ever figure out why or even what they were. Dr.Rapp (only actual vet that works there) prescribed a topical solution for the rashes on her stomach (which I was already confused about because why are you prescribing a medication if you don't know what you're treating?). It was also prescribed in his personal dogs name because they had already closed for the night. I would feel so bad, but my appt was at 4pm, three hours before they close soo??? I was so obviously unhappy with my vet 'appointment' that i had emailed them a version of this review, to which the response was to find a new vet (LAUGH OUT LOUD). I really wanted to write a review, but held off because it might have been out of pettiness. I am now writing this review in the parking lot of pet er where my dog is being TREATED for an INFECTION from the topical that Dr.Rapp PRESCRIBED IN HIS DOGS NAME. Dr. Rapp was kind and he and his assistant went above and beyond to give my Lab the best send-off over the Rainbow Bridge ever. I paid for it though; they charged me $800, kept our Orvis bed, and never followed up on calls I made to clarify about what conditions my dog had had, how I could have known, and why he had to be euthanized same day. Dr. Rapp and his staff were kind, compassionate, professional, completely honest, and personable. They literally saved our cat's life. After our cat was shot in the eye with a pellet gun, an urgent care animal hospital in the Mat-Su insisted on doing a CT scan before surgery. The total cost for the scan alone would be over $2,000. Adding on the surgery on top of that would possibly total up to $10,000. Or, they could put down our cat. We were shocked by these two options. We were recommended to Dr. Rapp. He took our cat, took a few x-rays, and took out the pellet, all for a fraction of the cost. Dr. Rapp was completely honest about our options, our costs, and the prospects of recovery. Our cat is recovering, and we can still afford to eat. read more

My little yorkie loves the staff. Very professional and cheerful. Completely puts me at ease. Very accommodating and prices are wonderful. Other places over charge but cornerstone is very reasonably priced. Nail clippings are complimentary and appointments range from about 5 minutes to 25 for basic check up and shots. We adore the staff at Cornerstone Animal Hospital. The front desk ladies are always eager to play with our young son and always give our sweet hound lots of loving. Dr. Gardener Montgomery truly loves our dogs like we do, and he constantly goes out of his way to check in and make sure our dog is well after her visits. We cannot sing his praises enough, and we highly recommend him to anyone seeking a vet in the Anchorage area! Dr. Montgomery takes every precautionary necessary when trying to find the cause of a problem, and he is incredibly thorough in his work. When I first adopted our dog as a puppy he ended up having Parvo. This is where we were told to go and I was with them till we moved away. They took great care of our puppy and every time after that. I took my adopted dog there yesterday. I wasn't sure his health history or his vaccinations. Probably the best experience I've ever had with a veterinarian. He was personable, service was quick, my dog immediately liked him and he counseled me away from certain vaccinations as unnecessary. It was very apparent the concern was animal health and not the bottom line. He also waived all the fees except the cost of the vaccinations themselves because my dog was a rescue. Wonderful! I love them. The receptionist were all super friendly and sweet. They were able to squeeze me in last minuet to look at my cats paw and found more problems with her. The vet took the time to talk to me and explain when most vets just kinda work fast and shrug me off. He gave me sample pills for my cat and suggested i look them up online instead of buying them in the shop because he said i could get it for cheaper online. I love vets who care! We have been taking our dogs to Dr. Rapp for many years. What else can we say than we simply love the doctor. As many other reviewers have stated, he is very detailed about the information he shares about your pet; which I personally treasure. I have had dogs all my life and have seen veterinarians all over the country. This clinic is the best. Recently my eleven year old lab collapsed and was diagnosed with a splenic mass along with auto immune issues. She went downhill fast and I had many interactions with all of the staff and Dr. Rapp. Myself and my beloved dog were treated with such kindness and professionalism that I was moved to tears more than once. Because of Dr. Rapp's knowledge, kindness and commitment to serving his profession, my dog's end of life was as good as it could possibly be. I took my dogs to Dr Rapp after my regular vet retired. Best decision I could have made. He was kind, thorough, and took the time to explain what was going on with my dog. We had to put him to sleep, and he walked us through the whole process. The clinic was very accommodating when we wanted to have him put to sleep outside in the sun and even set up a blanket for us. I originally was going to have my chihuahua's teeth removed at hillside but they quoted me at $1200 and that didn't include her exam and vaccines. Luckily I was referred to cornerstone and only paid a little over 600 for everything! They found that she had a heart murmur which hillside failed to find or inform me of. After her procedure she is doing great and started scarfing down her food right away. She won't sit down because she's feeling well enough to roam the whole house, which I'd say is a good sign. Everyone is very sweet and attentive. The vet who brought her out to me snuggled her until I got there which made me very happy. I'm glad I found them :) read more

Two cats (one recently put to sleep), a very active and working GSP, a breeding/working lab, and an older lab mix. We've been to several Vets around anchorage, but settled on Cornerstone about 2 yrs ago. The wait staff are often lacking in customer service, but I don't go to the vets office to see them. All the vets are extremely professional, they take the time to answer questions, and help you to make some of the more difficult decisions, without trying to sell you crap or services that you don't need. Highly recommended. 4 out of 5 b/c the parking lot is horrible to turn out of, and the front office staff could use some work. They also offer military discounts. read more

After our pup was dealing with a stomach issue that lasted a few days I looked for a vet open on weekends and came across cornerstone. They opened at 8 am on a Saturday, and even though they had no appointments available we were able to drop off our dog for her to get checked out in between the other appointments. I received a call from the vet about two hours later giving me the results of her exam and what his recommendations were. When we showed up to pick her up we were shown to a room quickly where the vet came in and went over everything with us. The cost was very typical for most vet visits but the service was very good. Dr. Rapp and his staff have taken care of my dogs for over 10 years and have ALWAYS given the proper personal care and attention to my pets. Everyone from the front office staff to the vet techs are professional and caring to the pets and owners. In an emergency Dr. Rapp has always be able to meet our needs and only a phone call away for questions. The clinic is able to get labs done within 24 hrs which is better than my personal MD. My dogs have had to have a few surgery (tooth pulled, broken nail bed from running, gland issues) and we never had any infection issues post-surgery and always had above and beyond care both during and after surgery and followup app ts. Dr. Rapp saved my dog's life. My Siberian Husky had a rare and severe condition-C.U.P.S. Dr. Rapp researched his condition, and took the time to meet with our family and discuss options. Ultimately, my dog, Hairy Potter, had to have all of his teeth removed, but Dr. Rapp helped us through the process; and now Hairy is doing great, and he's much healthier and living a full and happy life! We are new imports to Anchorage from the midwest. Dr. Montgomery was great. He knelt down at our dog's level and my dog Scooter has never been so calm for a vet visit. Instead of pushing expensive extra procedures, injections, teeth cleanings, xrays etc. (The usual whre we came from) he explained to us why Alaska is a healthier place for dogs. We opted for a dietary change .... a nicer option for our 12 yr old pup.. And he got a FREE nail trimming!
