FYI: this review is coming from a dairy-free person. I can't speak for Alaura's regular ice cream, but I'm sure it's great! I was elated when I first heard about Alaura opening in Pitman, as us non-dairy-consumers barely get any representation in South Jersey. However, if you're coming here expecting something like Ben & Jerry's or So Delicious's dairy-free ice creams, I would skip this place, because you will be disappointed. Their selection of vegan flavors is scant - they usually only have 2 of them at most. I wouldn't mind that usually, but... it honestly tastes more like water ice with some milk and sugar thrown into it :/ The consistency is not very "creamy" at all. I have given this place 2 tries now and I don't think I'll be coming back, unless they update their recipe (or start selling Ben & Jerry's!) I have heard good things about their regular ice cream, so maybe they should just stick to that! read more

I've been wanting to try this place for a while now and randomly stopped in on a gorgeous summer night. Had to sample the lemon basil just because... it was fine. Got the Cinnamon Toast Crunch on a sugar cone. Oh yeah! Tasted just like milk after eating a huge bowl of the cereal. There were soggy, but delicious squares of the cereal in the ice cream that were like little bonuses when bitten into. My friend got the root beer float ice cream that she said tasted just like it's name - she loved it. Will definitely be to try more flavors. read more

WOW! I was in awe of how amazing this place was! The establishment is located in the cute historic town of Pitman, NJ. Alaura has a fun welcoming atmosphere and has a vast menu for its size! Despite that menu, I had gone just for their popular ice cream. As a college student who prioritizes saving money, this was some of the cheapest ice cream I had ever purchased. The prices were not reflected in the quality. The ice cream was out of this world! I got a medium espresso and cotton candy ice cream in a waffle cone. I paid about $5 for this. I have never spent less money in an ice cream shop and left with such a high level of satisfaction! The Belgian Frites are also a favorite of many and were highly recommended to me! Went to this ice cream parlor after doing search on Yelp and was not disappointed! Clean store with friendly and courteous front counter girls (Emily & Sophia). Cool music. I had the peanut butter brownie and my other half had cinnamon salted caramel-Yum. Great value for the money compared to other ice cream places and it's homemade! I've only had ice cream there but every time I do it is very good. They have some unique flavors and vegan and gluten free options. Servers have always been very pleasant even when there was a long line or indecisive customers. If you are ever in downtown pitman I highly recommend it. read more

My first time here. The ice cream was creamy and delicious. I had the cinnamon caramel, my wife had the espresso flavor and my daughter had dirt. We all enjoyed it thoroughly. Fresh Jersey Strawberry ice cream, only during NJ strawberry season, and OMG so good. We got two pints of strawberry, one dirt, and one chocolate. The strawberry was amazing, and hands down one of the best ice creams I've had. Service was fantastic, and the lady was super friendly! Parking can be a challenge, but there are a few lots around. We needed some desert after dinner and decided to give Alaura a try. The area it is situated in is so quaint with some awesome local shops. The interior was beautifully decorated with about 15 different flavors of ice cream to choose from. I decided to have a birthday cake shake while coworkers had Cinnamon Toast Crunch scoops. Wonderful homemade ice cream with a great selection of seasonal flavors that often use local produce/ingredients. They also have great tomato soup in the fall and winter, vegan ice cream options, and a selection of appetizers. I'm not sure why they still have the "kitchen and candy" part associated with their name because the candy is not the focal point as the name suggests. That is just my opinion though. Gave it another shot; glad I did. freshly made Belgian waffle +maple walnut ice cream was delish....apparently they use a batter with actual pearl sugar (=authentic belgian waffle). Something I really appreciated about the maple walnut was that the nuts were toasted (it's the little things!), and you could taste the freshness of the ice cream. Nothing kills me more than when I go to an ice cream shop and the ice cream tastes anything like freezer burn... There was absolutely none of that here. The shop is small, cozy, but comfortable. Docked 1 star 'cuz I feel the price I paid is a bit outstanding for a waffle and 1 scoop of ice cream, at a little over $7.. (but at least it didn't disappoint, right?) read more
