My son is currently enrolled in swim classes here. The instructions & expectations are clear. At the end of each session we had to be a bit persistent in obtaining a report card, but upon receipt, it's very detailed on what he needs to work on and what he did well. We will continue to enroll him here, especially since they also have an indoor pool for Fall & Winter sessions.

Great pool... majority staff is wonderful but some do need some customer service training. Otherwise, I highly recommend this pool

While I wasn't afraid of pools or the ocean, I'd drown if I found myself in deep water without a life vest. I decided to finally take the plunge and learn in my 30s, and I'm so glad I found Woody! At the time, she was offering lessons in Oakland, and I chose her because it was in my neighborhood. Although the 1:1 lessons were a bit pricey for my budget at the time, they were worth it! After a few months of lessons, I was able to get past the mental barrier I had around deep water and finally learned how to tread water. Beyond that, Woody equipped me with numerous skills and techniques to feel confident and comfortable in the water. Let me tell you, learning to swim as an adult is no easy feat, but having a fantastic instructor makes all the difference. I highly recommend Woody for swim lessons! Thank you, Woody!

We wanted the peace of mind that she knew how to swim so we joined the wait list and started as soon as we could. We told her it is a life lesson and she had to do it and thankfully she agreed. Our daughter isn't quick to trust or warm up. I was a little concerned that the teachers wouldn't respect her shyness That was not the case at all. The coaches are all respectful, kind and professional. Now she knows how to swim and more! The picture is of her learning to dive! My husband started taking lessons too because he was inspired to improve his swim technique. Both really enjoyed swimming with the coaches and learned a lot. We highly recommend Woodys swim school!

We have been coming here since 2023 and I learned how to swim here in the late 80s and 90s…read more Pros: * Outdoor pool is heated and El Sobrante is rarely above 85 degrees in the summer. * No snobby, cliquey vibes. People are here to learn to swim only, not swim team competition. * This place does swim lessons only. They don't have to share the pool with recreational swimmers or club members. * Deep end training and intro to diving. * Offer makeups. We had to use them when we had Covid. * As of 2026, rates have not risen since 2024. They continue to be among the more affordable group lessons. Small discount for siblings. Cons: * Not open year-round. Open only during weekdays in the summer. * Small, cramped parking lot and San Pablo Dam Road traffic makes it not particularly safe to park a few blocks away and walk. * Hard to get into time slots that fit your schedule, especially if you have more than one child. * Private lessons not offered.

My wife did all the internetz. When I watched the first session, I was skeptical. After a few…read moresessions, I started see the method to their madness. It's like a well-oiled machine. It goes smooth and by the numbers. Kids advance in skill and comfort in the water. Before lessons here, our daughter... searching for the words... dreaded water in her face. A single drop of water from the bathtub--clean bath water--prompted shrieks of pain, fear, anger, and betrayal. Now she's underwater so much during lessons that they occasionally sit her up on the side of the pool to ensure that she hears instruction. It's very goals oriented. And they aren't afraid to not pass a kid. My daughter didn't pass the level one test: float motionless, face down on the surface of the water for 10 seconds. She was disappointed, yet determined and asked me to help her practice before the next lesson. She re-tested and passed. Then she didn't pass the level 2 test: swim on her own halfway across the pool. I think she would have passed if she has spent more time listening and less time sitting on the bottom of the pool waving at the other students. The instructors are attentive and encouraging. They remember the kids names and make it fun for them. Clean bathroom. Outdoor changing booths. Chairs, bleachers, shade. Orderly and organized. Don't be late. Parking is limited. If you choose to give a thumbs-up or not, I hope you found my review helpful!

She is no nonsense and doesn't give in to tears which I fully appreciate. Her methods work and the boys are both fish in the pool, they love swimming! Highly highly recommend her!

I hesitated to write this review, because Miss Jean is such a gem that I would rather keep her all…read moreto myself! But the right thing to do is to share the love. I have 3 daughters, and 3 months ago only one of them could swim at all. I was really nervous about taking my kids near water because I was constantly anxious about them drowning. When I met Miss Jean three months ago, I told her my summer goal was to have each of my daughters swimming - even (especially) the 3 year old! Three months and a total of 36 lessons later, all three girls are full swimmers who are completely comfortable and confident in the water by themselves. In fact, it only took Miss Jean two months to get them there! Miss Jean is magic with kids. She has so many years of experience, she really just gets kids and swimming. She knows when to push them and when not to. She knows how to sell swimming to them. She knows all the barriers and how to ease her students through them. She connects crazy well with each child. She has oodles of toys with spiffy names (e.g., the "marshmallow stick," the "treasure chest") that the kids just love. I watched her interact with not just my kids, but many other children in countless lessons throughout the summer. Her superpowers are: (1) Patience - like, a ton ton of patience; and (2) Understanding each child individually, and custom-tailoring her approach to each one. I watched her work with children with developmental disabilities, epilepsy, super young children, and older teenagers with appropriate differentiation and so much love. PLUS PLUS she was super flexible about scheduling all summer. She uses a great system of Google-calendar invites. You can cancel anytime up until right before the lesson with no penalty. Between my 3 daughters' other summer camps, family trips, etc. etc. I needed to constantly revise our schedule, and she was a total trooper about it. You schedule when you want, you change the schedule when you want, and you only pay for lessons you attend. Wow. So: She is the swim-whisperer. All her students + families think so, and they are probably not posting about it on yelp for the same reason I didn't want to. ;)

So many things to like about this pool…read more First and foremost, for me, is that it is WARM. It's the warmest pool around and it makes all the difference. It's easier to swim longer. Those several degrees are the difference between blue fingers and NOT blue fingers. The staff is great. I like the ease of buying a pass online. The price is right. AND, I am happy to say, that they still require masks unless in the pool or shower! I approve. Safety first! (Although the staff isn't consistent with masking.) My kids are grown, but I do appreciate the family friendly nature of the pool. It's always great to see parents and kids ... and I love seeing budding young swimmers doing laps. For those of you who like a cooler pool, I highly recommend the Emeryville Aquatic Center on San Pablo and 45th. It's also a very nice pool. Great staff. Was my go to for years ... BUT, I gotta say, I'm now addicted to the extra heat of West Campus Pool. I also hear the Pool on Hopkins, behind MLK Middle School ... identical lay out ... is cooler. SO, for those of you who like a chillier pool temp ... please go to the other pools and save the lanes at West Campus for us heat seekers.
