I wanted to update my review. We had some challenges due to instructor turnover, which was really hard for my child who needs consistency and a higher level of support. I understand that changes happen, but it would mean a lot to families like ours to be informed ahead of time and have a smoother transition. As a special needs family, it's not always easy to find places that can truly accommodate. There are moments I feel defeated and wonder how we'll make things work. That said, I truly appreciate the director for listening, apologizing, and working with us. With the added support, my child is now back to learning how to swim which is so important for her. Warm pool, every staff member is friendly and welcoming, clean facility from the shower to changing rooms to observation area to lobby! This is assembly line, factory style swim lessons but it works. Our six year old has shown a lot of improvement in 3 months. Our kids have been going to swim for the past 4 years. It's been an incredible experience to watch their growth in skills. I especially appreciate their focus on drowning prevention. They divide their classes into seasons. You pay upfront for the season. Their instructors are kind, attentive and knowledgeable. They have a process that if you can not attend a class and cancel on time, you can schedule a make up. THEY NEED A BETTER POLICY FOR SICK KIDS. We have been bring in our kids for almost 2 years now, the program is great but there policy on sick kids is the reason we are no longer reenrolling. We decided to go to another swim program. Parents will take their sick kids since the reimburse or make ups are hard to do. It is silly since our child got sick from another sick kid and thus caused us to miss two weeks. We could of been irresponsible and taken out sick kid but chose not to. I just wish their policy would be better, and their response to us left a bad taste in our mouth and we are choosing to take our business elsewhere. read more

American Swim Academy is a game changer! It's turned my kids, both of which were scared of the water even in the bathtub, into pool loving fish in a matter of a couple months! I was hesitant at first because I've had them in other swim programs before that didn't work and this seemed like a big commitment. But my first time signing up I spoke with a couple team members who were patient with me and answered all my questions and made me feel secure in paying a rather large sum of money up front without knowing much about the value we would receive. We love American Swim Academy! I honestly can't say enough good things about our experience so far. We started taking Preschool Comfort classes here in January. My 4 year old was terrified of putting her face in the water; she also tends to be shy and nervous of new things, which is important when I share this picture from her very first class. During her first class, she smiled and laughed THE WHOLE TIME! They made the experience so fun for her, she forgot about her fears. Within 5 weeks, she was putting her face in the water herself. Within 7 weeks, she got her first ribbon for putting her face in the water for 2 seconds. They challenged her, but never forced her. She is so proud of herself and always excited to go to swim class. She's even asking to practice her swim class skills in the bath. One thing I like is that there's always someone on the pool deck to oversee the classes. They check to see if kids are ready to check off a milestone, then update in their system. This means teachers can focus on the kids. They're also another eye for safety, which is a big plus. I've seen some reviews about teacher turnover being high. While I haven't experienced that, I'll say that this extra person on the pool deck keeps everything organized and moving, so there's no gaps in learning. All the teachers we've had, even for makeups, have been wonderful and fully trained. The facility is always clean. There is an abundance of clean, well-maintained bathrooms, showers, and changing rooms. The viewing area with stadium seating is quite nice. We'll keep taking classes here. I see 3 and 4 year olds swimming freestyle, backstroke, and even practicing breaststroke. Their methods obviously work, but most importantly my daughter is having so much fun and actually progressing. read more

My son attended a few swim sessions at American Swim Academy but we quit about a year ago. At first it was great. He had a nice instructor who started who seem like a great teacher and he made progress week to week. In a later session he was mismatched with a classmate. They were the same age but she was a far better swimmer than him and I think it was tough on the instructor that they couldn't do the same things. Not the teacher's fault at all, but I could see it was frustrating to her. The last session we had was an absolute disaster. His instructor missed more than half of his lessons. In one instance there was no instructor at all so both kids got in the pool with no adult in their lane. I didn't realize there was no one there because we were required to drop the kids off in the showers (I'm not sure if that's still the case). When his instructor did show up, it wasn't any better. She made no attempts to engage my son. He learned nothing (and earned zero ribbons which was disheartening for him) and worst of all, when he was swimming, he would sometimes pop his head up to breathe instead of rolling. She would shove his head back into the water which would cause him to panic. I tried to address this with the office staff and the gentleman I spoke with told me that "sometimes teachers aren't a good fit for some students." And that was the end of the conversation. We eventually left for another local swim school. After one semester at his new school, he went from not being able to swim anything other than doggy paddle despite years with ASA, to swimming freestyle and backstroke well enough to make our local swim team. read more

I wanted to give a special shout to my son's coach at ASA. Miss Corey L has been with my son the past two sessions and her patience with him is incredible. Today he went underwater for an extended period of time and while I was most excited for him, I was also very touched and impressed at how she celebrated him. My son has come from not wanting any water on his head to going under water repeatedly. We feel so lucky to have been paired with Corey L and my son adores her. THIS IS THE MOST MONEY HUNGRY BUSINESS IVE EVER WASTED MY TIME ON! They do not care about your child, they only care about your money. My son had a $20 balance and they harassed me for weeks over $20 during business hours while I was at work and couldn't answer the phone. Most recently, I had a balance of a little over $200 for the fall which is in mid September!! These people cancelled my sons spot because they called me once and I didn't pay the balance because my husband who passed away birthday and his death date are within 1 week of each other and my sons swim school is the last thing I'm thinking of. To top it off, my son has been coming to this school for 2.5 years. They are so shady at this place over money. They do not care about the kids, only about getting their money when they want it. RUN, RUN from this school so fast and look elsewhere. The second you don't pay a balance 2.5 months in advance to the class start date, they will drop your kid like they never existed! This school disgusts me!! Terrible business, they don't care about your child, they care about your money only! Money hungry bad place of business! So shady! read more

Not worth the steep cost. It's a nice facility and if you have to swim in the winter, there's some benefit there since it's indoors. But there's minimal individualized attention and the makeup policy is impossible, just a shame for how expensive it is. Plenty of other options in the area for a fraction of the cost. read more

The instructors deserve all the stars in the world! They are AMAZING, and so patient and good at their jobs. The pool managers on deck are also very attentive and amazing as well. The problem with this facility is that they make rules like "don't reserve changing rooms" but then they don't enforce them. So people like me who obey the rules are then forced to stand and wait with a shivering toddler while we wait for an open dressing room....which are not even all occupied with changing patrons! They simply have bags sitting in them. I've brought this up repeatedly with no resolution. It's pretty frustrating and definitely will impact your experience here if you choose to swim at ASA unfortunately. read more

We really like American swim academy in Dublin. The class ratio is low. My son's coach is Patrick! He's extremely nice and patient. My son has started this summer and now he can be in the water for couple of secs. I like they have clear goals working towards and reward them with ribbons and big shoutouts. My little guy really like to be rewarded and he has been trying his best to earn the rewards with lots of encouragement from the team members! ASA is very popular, so sign up early! read more

My almost 4 year old has been taking lessons at American Swim Academy for 6+ months. He loves it! We've had three different instructors during this time, as he's graduated from one class to the next - Jeannette, Daniel and Troy. All of them are fantastic with the kids, knowing exactly how to engage with them to get them excited during each class. Most importantly, my kiddo has made huge improvements in his swimming during this time. He started out being comfortable in the water but with no real swim skills. He's now able to swim a bit on his own and has learned a lot in terms of water safety. The school has rigorously enforced appropriate health and safety measures during covid. They've also been super accommodating. For example, if you're unable to make a class and provide them with a few hours notice, they'll happily reschedule that class. Excellent program and set up at their Walnut Creek location. I actually took some Adult lessons to try and improve my advanced strokes (breast & butterfly). Heather is an excellent & patient instructor with the few adults that were there. I often watch the other instructors too with the younger ones, and they do a great job to keep the kids safe and having fun while learning. Review part 1/2 This review is well overdue. I have been postponing writing it because the whole experience gave me so much anxiety, I needed a 4-5 month break from thinking about it. My 3-4 year old daughter attended the 2 person class at American Swim Academy for 11 months. I even had my 6 month old daughter do the baby class for one season (about 3 months). We got to experience ASA from different age groups, with (many) different instructors, different days of the week, and slightly different times of the day. There are about 3 good things about attending this swim academy. The rest of the things I will point out are horrible and horrendous and to be honest. I am ashamed that I kept giving them my hard earned money for so long when I knew my daughter wasn't improving with her swimming, and I advise no one else make the same mistake. I will start with their most egregious offense, which I didn't know about until the end of our time with them. They take notes on their students and their family members. And sure notes are fine, but they take extremely subjective notes, that include words like "rude" or "unreasonable." During our time there, I was told by one of their managers, Johanna, that they had "many many pages" of notes on us and how we "complained every week." Not only was this such a grave overexaggeration (I took detailed notes of all the times I spoke with them), but it was obvious that their subjective notes influenced what their instructors and employees thought of us without personally having experiences with us. This is exactly why you should not allow such a practice to occur. I have worked for prestigious institutions such as UCSF Children's Hospital, Stanford Hospital and John Muir Medical Center and they have all spent entire training modules teaching us as nurses to only ever chart objectively and with facts rather than feelings. This is the best way to discourage conscious and unconscious bias to occur and to make sure everyone is treated with the same, high standard of care. It also prevents discrimination or assumptions to be made about people without giving them the chance to have a clean slate. Clearly, this concept is not important nor is it seen as valuable by American Swim Academy. I know someone who used to work there and they openly encourage their staff to take these kind of notes on their clients and that the notes on me and my family were incredibly subjective, demeaning and insulting (also some just flat out untrue). These type of practices encourage conscious and unconscious bias and gives staff a reason to treat customers differently without having even met them or had their own experiences with them. What might be even worse is my daughter was in lessons with another girl who looks very similar to her. Myself and the other girl's mom both have long dark hair, but don't look alike and are definitely completely different heights. However, these tiny differences welded us into the same people somehow, and they often mistook my daughter for the other girl and myself for the other mom. Accusing me of actions I never did and combining our actions in their "notes" even though clearly I'm a totally different person than her and same with our daughters (they often thought I had to stay on the deck for my daughter's comfort level but I literally never did this and it was the other mom and daughter. It was so clear they confused the two of us and the girls regularly). They also changed my daughter's class based on something the other mom requested, not me. You'd think the goal of their "note" system would be to decrease confusion but there were so many assumptions about us as a class that were made without attention to detail, that they stopped distinguishing between the two different parties. read more

American swim academy policies are ridiculous. They charged me for swim classes at the Fremont location (for a full semester) and not the location closest to me. They ultimately refunded me but I couldn't get the full refund due to their own fault and special circumstances. There are more affordable swim classes with more flexible policies for working families elsewhere. read more

Overall it's been a wonderful experience. The teachers are all great. It's clean, organized, and classes are always timely. I love the ribbon reward system. We had one lesson with a teacher that wasn't a good experience. As soon as I addressed it with the school, they took care of it and gave us a new instructor. They were wonderful. We are 6 weeks into our first session and I couldn't be happier. I have a 5 year old and almost 3 year old, both of whom had not had any formal training before. It is truly amazing how much progress they have made in just 6 weeks. We have had several teachers for the classes: Troy, Alex, Max, Janea (sorry for the others I am missing!) and all of them are so great with the kids. They work with the kids to make sure they are comfortable, but also encourage them to go outside their comfort zones so they can progress. I also watch how they encourage other children who are at varying skill levels. A few additional benefits are the accommodating schedules, friend front desk staff, flexibility with make up classes, etc. Plus, the facility is impeccable. We are looking forward to continuing our journey with American Swim Academy! read more

We have had a wonderful experience so far at ASA. We're in our 3rd quarter of lessons and plan to continue them through next year. Our son has made great strides in his level of comfort with the water and his beginning swim skills. Prior to joining ASA, our son would panic if water got on his face in the tub! Now, he is gliding underwater and fully submerging himself on his own. It's been so gratifying watching his progress. The 3 instructors we've had are all very patient and friendly. My son is always smiling, happy, and excited to go to his lessons each week. Only thing is I wish they had at least some quiet "elevator" music or something in the parent viewing area. This review is both a super shoutout, and an encouraging one for parents with reluctant swimmers. Coach Bailey and the ASA staff transformed my 3 year old's swimming confidence. Initially, he wouldn't get in the water without mommy or daddy. I had to sit with him five feet AWAY from the pool for the first several sessions. I would reluctantly carry him kicking and screaming from the showers to this location, and it seemed hopeless that he would ever engage in these sessions without daddy in the water. Coach Bailey persisted. She kept trying different toys and strategies, and with the support of Sue, moved my son into a more comfortable and quieter lane near the steps. Now, just 4-5 sessions later, I'm watching a more confident swimmer walk right into the water to meet Bailey while I watch from the bleachers. BRAVO COACH BAILEY AND THE ASA STAFF.
