My husband's family has always taken their pets here. However, since knowing my husband I have only had a handful of good experiences here. In all honesty, my first experience was a horrible one. We were visiting his parents here in Albemarle, as we lived in Charlotte at the time. One of my dogs, we were unsure of which, got into rat poison. It was close to the end of operating hours on a Saturday. However, I called and notified them that we were 10 to 15 minutes out and what the emergency was. We arrived two minutes after operating hours, and the doors were locked and no cars for in sight. This tells me that they possibly even left before the end of operating hours. We then had to drive 45 minutes to an emergency clinic in Charlotte to have my dog taken care of. (sidenote: on the way to Charlotte I called our primary vet at the time. The vet had already left, but the receptionist gave me where to go, and she even called ahead for us. The following Monday, my primary vet actually called me to check on my dogs, even though he had not seen them when the emergency happened. ) I did not experience them again until recently. My husband and I moved back to Stanley county. We would take them there to get shots, but other than that my dogs were pretty healthy. However, one of my dogs had seizures out of nowhere. I actually took him to West stanly (also owned by Dr. Griffin) where they pretty much told me, they couldn't do anything for him and sent me to a Charlotte again. The next few occurrences were fine. However, they do not take appointments and so either you have to have a job that is flexible or take time off. Not very conducive to working individuals with 9-to-5 jobs. Also, they will not see animals between 12 and two, when most people have lunch. This makes it very hard to get your animal the treatment they need. Recently, my dog, Sammy started his treatment for seizures again. When they gave me his prescription, they never stated anything except 30 days later I needed to come back to have his blood work done. I came back. Luckily, I had the day off, however, I guess I was right at the cusp of when his blood work had to be taken, although no one had told me previously . Instead of rushing him back to have blood work taken they let me sit there for 20 to 30 minutes before informing me they couldn't do anything. They extended my prescription for two weeks. Needless to say, the next time I came, they refused to take my dogs blood again. They attempted to place the blame on me. However, they used incorrect language in describing when I needed to return. When I asked to speak to the vet, I was met with attitude . There's no doubt I got attitude back. When the vet finally spoke to me, she automatically had attitude and didn't care about the dog or my time. It was their policy and they didn't care if my dog got tested or not. Which is sad since without the meds, he could have seizures. You would think the wellbeing of the animal would come before all else. We have used Albemarle Animal Clinic for at least 35 years. They have been through changes in owners a couple times and had changes in some of the doctors during this time. The staff now is amazing! They have helped us through many serious illnesses with our cats and a couple dogs. They are so caring and cost friendly. They take their time with each pet. Because of this they are extremely busy. So, sometimes you have to wait your turn, but they get to you in a timely manner. I have never been asked to pay up front for any pet. They will even work with you on payment if necessary, if you are an established customer. No other vet in Stanly County is anywhere close to as good or reasonably priced as Albemarle Animal Clinic! read more

I have mixed feelings about Albemarle Animal Hospital located on hwy 24/27 in Albemarle, NC. Let me first begin by stating that it does have several friendly employees who attempt to make patients and their companions comfortable. However, not every employee does. What bothers me the most about the hospital is the professionalism that some of the vets have. I have recently taken a cat there due to her change in behavior. Tests were conducted. The diagnosed of having diabetes. I was given insulin, needles and an option between diabetic dry or can food to give to my cat. I was told that her liver was also impacted by the diabetes, yet there is a possibility that she may overcome and outgrow the diabetes. I was told that too that an improvement should be seen in a few days. If I didn't I should bring the cat back. I went back to the vet the next day to get some can food because my cat wasn't eating the dry food that I purchase. I purchased six cans thinking that she would be motivated to eat. She still did not want to eat nor she attempted to eat.. Her health became worse so I took the cat back to the vet to see if there was anything else could be done. The vet I initially had wasn't there. The bedside manner of this new vet was not very kind. She kept insisting that the other vet did everything she could to help. Her tone and the way she was stating it made me feel that I was accusing the vet of some wrong doing. I was not accusing her of malpractice. I just wanted my cat to feel better and get back to normal. The initial vet had given me hope that my cat would live and get better. When asked if there is anything that can be done, this new vet stated that she wouldn't recommend a feeding tube because the cat's health was too far gone. It wasn't until I asked for surringes that I was given any. If I had known about force feeding the cat days earlier, I could have done something more to help. This was not the first time that one of my pets died after being seen by the vets. This was the second time that within five days of being seen and given medication that one of my cats died. I love my pets as if they were my own children. If I had known from day one that I could feed with a surringe, I would have done so. Many of us haven't been through some of these problems before. Provide us with the necessary info so that we can make a decision. Ask questions, probe more. read more

They have treated my animals for years and have always taken great care of them. They are ever so kind.

I used to come to this clinic with my roommate and her cat a couple years ago. I always liked the way kitty was treated so I started bringing my dog here. Always treated professionally and received good care for pup. This last time I came, my dog got a full blood panel with another type of blood work up also, a small cyst that had ruptured cleaned and treated, a physical, and nails cut. The vet went over every line of the blood panel results and explained each one and if she was concerned or not and why. Yes, you wait a bit - they do their own blood work - most vets have to send it out, so it's worth it. My bill for all this was less than $300. Which includes two scripts as well. In Charlotte, where I live, that would've been over $500 easy. It's a nice drive and worth it to save so much money, professional staff and great vets. read more

My husband just took our sick cat to Albemarle Animal Clinic because she is projectile vomiting and sneezing. My husband put me on the phone while the vet was in the room. The vet said he was going to give my cat an injection of Convenia. I told him I did not want my cat to receive that injection and that I was more than comfortable administering oral antibiotics to my cat. He told my husband to find another vet and walked out of the room!!!!!! I was on speakerphone and heard him say this! So my husband is going back home with our sick cat. I should have a voice in my pet's healthcare and that shouldn't offend the vet. I will need a new vet for my pets. I have never been talked to like this. I am mortified. read more

This is an unusual clinic there are no appointments you come and wait your turn. I went in really early and didn't have to wait too long. I brought my Pekingese in to be put to sleep. They require two shots one to relax and another about 10 minutes later to put to sleep. My dog had the first shot. He was asleep. I was having a really hard time and about half way thru asked the tech if I could have an office visit first to be sure putting to sleep was right. About a minute later the doc came in and told me to get out and never come back again. I was stunned he was acting like a brat with absolutely no consideration or professionalism. I recommended this office to a friend who's dog can not even hold her head up today she is so sick. she got her there right at 10;50 and since it was so close to lunch they sent her out. She asked them to see the dog while her friend went to the ATM and they said no, they had lunch in 5 minutes. VERY unprofessional, I called to ask if this is in fact what happened and they said yes. the DR said he couldn't wait. I can't believe that a Vet who cares about animals would have a dog that sick in his waiting room and send them away. She may be critical we do not know. and when I told them I was going to do this review they could care less. UPDATE...she left there and we found a vet to take her immediately, her temp was 106 and they said without treatment she would not have lasted another hour. they started treatment at LUNCH time, and didn't even ask for money first. My mother called Albemarle Animal Clinic this morning to c about putting her dog of 14 years down he had started to show signs of giving up. They made her wait in the car for 30 minuets. And still had to call while in the car with him. Then made it a point to make payment while her best friend and companion waits in misery in the car. What kind of vet is this? I promised myself I would not be public about a visit to Albemarle Animal Clinic. Their response today threw that right out the window. First, my lovely Sable Shepard has been a patient there for a number of years. So, when we rescued a tiny pup we automatically took him there. After having the 2lb pup only 4 days he passed 4 large struvite stones and had one blocking his urethra. They told me they could and would do emergency surgery; come back at 3pm. I left the pup and hung out in Albemarle until 2:30. Upon returning I was scolded, 'we called you over and over'; I do not have a cell phone and did not drive back to Salisbury. The veternarian that was to do the surgery must have choked and would not do the surgery. They refered me to Carolina Vet Specialist in Mathews who need me to mortgage my home to help the pup. I found an angel that night, pup is 55lbs and healthy today. Back to today and my precious shepard. He is 11 1/2, his hips are gone, his mind is gone and we needed help sending him across the rainbow bridge. They refused service because I was dissatisfied at the way they handled the pup. Dr. Griffin who is the owner of the practice is very unprofessional. Left a message for him to call me as I was having an issue with a staff member being rude, followed this up with a letter and no response what so ever after being a long time client. read more

I have taken all of my pets to Dr. Griffin for nearly 15 years and have always been happy with the results. From annual check-ups to picking up prescription refills, the staff has always treated me well and has taken excellent care of my dogs and my cat. I highly recommend Albemarle Animal Clinic for anyone to take their furbabies! read more

Our visit was at West Stanly Animal clinic where Dr.Griffin also owns and was the attending DVM. Our 12 year old cat had a stroke and needed to be evaluated and possible PTS. She is a full time inside feline (never been outside a minute) and had her last rabies shot 4 years ago when she was 8. He refused service based on her not being current. I told the attendant that if she lived I was getting the cat vaccinated at a humane society rabies clinic the next week for $10.00 but if they would honor that price and she lived we would get that done today as well. Dr. Griffin showed no compassion or professionalism refusing his service in the waiting room and in front of my teenage daughter while holding our suffering family cat. It is very clear that this Doctor is in this for the money only and cares nothing about animals or the family's. He didn't even give us the option of paying full price for a .98 cent shot that would have made no difference in her living or not. After seeing a local competitor of his, our cat was diagnosed with a life ending stroke and had to be euthanize. No need to give a booster for a cat that's dying of a stroke anyway. read more
