Love the staff and Dr Reff Marina is super helpful and extremely welcoming when you arrive. She assisted me with all my associated imaging appointments at other facilities and has such a kind and thoughtful spirit. UPDATE My last two visits have not been as great as my initial appointments. The front office staff left me waiting for 25 minutes at my previous appointment then sent me into the exam room to wait another 20 minutes and other than scheduling my next appointment pretty much didn't say a word to me. An explanation of unexpected delays is the professional course of action. Respecting the patients time as much as the doctors. Today I arrived 10 minutes early for a 9 am appointment and another patient arrived just before 9 and announced aloud he was here for a 9 am appointment. The front office called him in at 9:02 and continued to leave me out there waiting until 9:10. Taking into consideration my experience at my previous appointment,I asked why they called the gentleman in before me and Marina rolled her eyes at me then rudely said no, he was an emergency add to the schedule and his appointment was at 8:45! Okay well, according to my watch, that still means he was late and I was here on time, before him. It's 9:15 and I was on the schedule first, but here I sit still waiting for the dr to see me. Dr Reff came in and I shared my last two experiences with Marina. He apologized and said he'd speak to her as it ultimately equates to a poor representation of him. Dr Reff used a safety pin and scraped it along my husband's calves to test his ability to feel. I'm no doctor but I don't think that is sterile and it left red lines on his legs took several days to heal. Like several other reviews, Dr Reff must work for workman comp insurance adjusters because his assessment of my husband's injury was not at all accurate. I was not impressed and I think the safety pin exam is not sterile, although he threw the pin away after scraping his leg. Dr. Reff was referred to us by a family friend as "the knee expert" My elderly mother is a patient of his, and since she is not an English speaker, I always accompany her. Dr. Reff has excellent bedside manners, he is patient and makes sure to answer all of my mother's questions before he leaves the exam room. While he is not super chatty, his assessment is accurate, and he explains his course of treatment clearly and thoroughly. My mom's knee pain is managed at this time, and she trusts his opinion so much that we made a trip to go see Dr. Reff for a second opinion on another issue. I am glad my mother feels comfortable going here, and most of all that she trusts his judgement and his course of treatment. I would recommend Dr. Reff to any of my close friends, and this is coming from someone who works in the health industry as well! Oh! I came to see Dr. Reff for a consultation on a shoulder dislocation and injury. I am a swimming coach and a competitive athlete, and my arm mobility is critical to my daily life. I was in constant pain. I wanted to know if physical therapy or surgery was the best treatment. I was willing to do either or both to fix my shoulder. Dr. Reff took x-Rays on the spot. He went over them with me, which was good. That's why he gets one star. In every other way I consider him a total waste of time. I made it clear that I am very active and that I work in athletics. He showed me that both of my shoulders were in a partially dislocated position and the supporting ligaments were stretched. The pain was caused by the bone grinding against my nerves. All arm movements damaged my nerves. His advice to me was to "Quit sports and take up walking"! He said there was "no need" for a woman my age to run around competing, and that no surgery was advised. I was fuming mad! I reminded him that I worked in athletics and my job was very active. He asked me how long until I can retire...try 20-25 years! He wasn't joking. His professional opinion was that women over 40 should retire and take long walks. I absolutely despise men like that and I want everyone to stay away from this chauvinistic jerk! read more

Update added February 15, 2016 towards the bottom: The staff was kind and wonderful! But Dr. Reff was a joke of a doctor! Not all patients are treated with the same care or compassion! Maybe it's because I'm a workmen's compensation case and there was no money involved! My company sends him ALL my paperwork of the past year. And I fill out the questionnaire from his office website and I also bring my MRI images on a CD. When I arrived he had NOT looked at anything he was sent. Then asked me questions that I had already answered on his office's questionnaire. One minute of "do you feel this?" And all he says is "Ok, you can go now"! I was in shock that he didn't look at my images or care to ask more about my injury's nature. I had to ask as I was being walked out if he thought surgery was a good option since my Orthopaedic Surgeon recommended it after 2 cortisone injections and one PRP injection. His response was "it would be a waste of your time since it will heal over time" So one year of therapy and injections is NOT enough time to suggest that "healing in time" has already passed as an option. Not all patients are treated with the same care! Update February 15, 2016 Well Dr. Reff invited me back to chat about my issues. This visit gave me 15 minutes of one on one time with the Doctor. To be fair, he heard my issues and answered them to defend himself. Basically his points were that he treated me like any other patient. But I said "any first" time patient should get more that 5 minutes to assess their injury since each one is unique since we all have different lifestyles and jobs. Overall once he heard me and my injury related statements, he revised his comments and actually agreed with my primary doctor's prognosis of surgery since Dr Reff said was 50/50 in his mind. He would rather go more injections and therapy. But I've had 3 injections so I'm done with that angle. Now I'm just bummed that I had to waste another day off work and waste driving 80 miles round trip since this is a worker compensation case and I had to see their doctor. read more

Dr. Reff is a joke I had to see him on 2 separate occasions, the first time he barely checked me out then he didn't turn in his report on time and when he did turn in a report it was not even for me it for another patient. Further Dr.Reff is an unethical liar, a bumbling fool and a shill for work Comp insurance adjusters. I waited over an hour to see this man for 15 minutes. He had me undress and put on a gown but didn't actually look at my injured areas let alone touch or feel them. He had me do multiple movements, which he inaccurately reported. Then he wrote a second report stating that my injuries were totally resolved even though I'm still experiencing on going pain and symptoms... apparently he has a bad reputation in the work Comp community as a Dr. who works for the adjusters to screw patients. I had a THR approx. 3.5 weeks ago. Dr. Reff did an amazing job! I can honestly say that I am healing better than expected. Pain was minimal, only had it the day of surgery. My mobility improves with each day with the PT exercises. I wouldn't go to any other surgeon. In fact, I need to have my other hip replaced and will be going to Dr. Reff and his amazing team to have it done. His protocol for pre/post op is known by the hospital (Providence Little Company of Mary, Torrance), Physical therapists (shout out to Cindy and Brigitte). I initially visited Albert Reff because I had a lot of shoulder weakness and some pain in my neck and right shoulder. When I got to his office, the staff was incredibly kind and helpful, so I was hopeful for a successful visit. Once I was brought to a room and the doctor arrived, I informed him of my medical history and that I already knew I had a reverse curve in my neck that could be causing some of the tension and pain. I stated that I was worried about my shoulder and the fact that it was so much weaker than my other arm and it is, in fact, my dominant arm. I also tried to tell him about the activities (pole, lyra hoop, aerial silks...Cirque style activities) that I do on a daily basis and that it was evident during those activities that there was something wrong in my shoulder. The doctor did some shoulder strength and flexibility tests, after which he stated that I did not show any signs of weakness in the shoulders. I tried telling him that I will most likely not show obvious signs of weakness in my shoulders, as I am an aerialist and even with the weakness, can do much more difficult things than that, before the weakness becomes evident. He then sent me to get x-rays of my neck in their office right then and there, which I agreed to since it had been a while since I checked the reverse curve (which I have been rehabbing for some time now). However, once I got back to the room to go over the x-rays, he told me there was nothing I could do about the reverse curve and tried sending me on my way. First of all, that is not true at all and I have already shown improvement since seeing a physical therapist and chiropractor for my neck. Second, I went in to get my shoulder checked on and he brushed it off by saying the reverse curve was causing the shoulder pain that only occurred on the right side. I ended up having to beg for an MRI on my shoulder and he succumbed. After he ordered the MRI, I scheduled my appointments and went on my way. That same day I made an appointment with another ortho for a second opinion, as I did not feel Albert Reff was committed to helping me with my evident injury. I also made a follow-up appointment with Dr. Reff, as he was the ordering doctor. Fast forward to my post-MRI appointment with Dr. Reff, and contrary to what the MRI report stated, he told me he saw absolutely nothing wrong and that I was fine. I asked him what I could do about the pain and weakness and he told me to maybe consider activities that don't use the right shoulder at all. I also asked what could possibly be causing such weakness in my dominant shoulder and he told me that sometimes when something hurts, people become sedentary. To me, that was a red flag that he said that, as it shows he paid no attention at all to all of the vital information I tried providing for him to make a proper diagnosis. I left his office feeling pretty confused as to why I had the weakness and pain in my right shoulder if nothing was wrong. I was also very confused how he interpreted the MRI as showing no injuries, even though the report stated tendinosis of the supraspinatus tendon. Luckily, I had my second opinion appointment the following week and I was glad I made it! After seeing the new doctor, I was disappointed because I ACTUALLY AM VERY INJURED, but relieved to get started on my recovery. After reading the EXACT SAME MRI, the new doctor found excessive inflammation, a significant tear in the supraspinatus tendon (rotator cuff), and evidence of a SLAP tear. I was extremely taken aback when I found out I may need surgery if PT and shots don't do anything for me. I am seriously considering reporting Albert Reff to the Medical Board of California, especially after seeing some of the other poor reviews. Not only did he grossly misdiagnose me, but I am an aerialist that relies on her shoulders not to give out while upside down and 10-20ft in the air. I went for a second opinion because my activities are fun and a great workout, but my safety and health comes first. I am honestly really confused with all of the 5-star reviews. They must be friends of Dr. Reff or fake reviews because my experience with him was quite the opposite... I hope this helps anyone looking for a good ortho. read more

I called this morning because of range of motion problems and after a little moving around they got me right in. The doctor is quiet, thoughtful and so professoinal. After 3 years since my hip surgery, everything is doing well and I no longer have to return annually for a checkup. Did I expect to break my foot? No. Did I get extremely fortunate being referred to Dr. Reff? Yes! Kind, caring, concerned, in addition to being cautious and not attempting to go straight into suggesting surgery, instead recommending we proceed with a natural healing process. Additionally, he graciously and patiently listened to me and my concerns, answering every question in a calm and measured way so that I understood everything. So, yesterday when he said I didn't need to return unless something went awry, I was thrilled! Then oddly enough, a bit sad knowing I'd likely not see these fine folks again. Frankly, it's an unusual experience for me to feel that I will honestly miss seeing a doctor. Yes, the experience was that positive! Speaking of positive, oh my goodness what a great staff! Dr. Reff screwed me over once again. He was hired by my employer to give a 2nd opinion on my workman's comp injury. I recently had my 3rd epidural in my neck and was waiting for the approval to see a neck surgeon. On May 4th, Dr. Reff saw me for approx 6 min, asking me questions and having me bend and turn my neck as much as I could etc. He never did an exam or a simple nerve test. He never touched me! He left his office without saying anything other than your finished. I just received notification in the mail yesterday (11 days later) that Dr. Reff released me to full duty work with zero restrictions!! Not even light duty but full duty!!! How does this Dr sleep at night? Why am I being treated differently than one of his primary patients? Would he send one of his primary patients back to full duty when she was about to see a surgeon? The answer is no!! Total bias by a Dr. who's on the company payroll!! Shameful!!! I'm reporting him once again to the American Medical Board. read more

Do not take your child to this doctor! My 4-year-old daughter broke her arm and we were referred to Dr. Reff to have a cast put on. After a long wait, he came into the room full of arrogance, made my daughter cringe and cry with forceful movements, and then said it wasn't broken after all. He sent us on our way saying it was in her head. I kept her in a sling anyway because she couldn't use her arm. Two weeks later I took her to our regular pediatrician who immediately called for more x-rays and declared it most definitely broken. She walked around for two weeks unprotected because of Dr. Reff! Thank God they could cast it without having to reset it. Absolutely horrible experience all around! read more
