Pup friendly bar & beer garden A friend recommended we check out the ice house since we love scenic drives and dance halls! The bar has a really cool vibe - old storefront with windows that open to the beer garden. Plenty of outdoor seating, food truck, and live music. We took a peek in the dance hall - smaller than Gruene or Mercer but looks like a fun place for a night out with friends! Definitely check out their upcoming shows to see who is playing (so far most of the music lineups are just for the beer garden). The bathrooms are outside and were clean at first but got dirty quickly. They desperately need to refill the soap dispensers! This is definitely a spot for local and bikers - so expect some smoking and engine noise. But overall a great place to relax under the giant oak tree. read more

My husband and I spent a few hours at Albert Icehouse a few weeks ago when we were in the area, and I'm so glad we stopped by. Live music, gorgeous live oak trees, classic bar options (lots of Texas beers), good service, a food truck, clean bathrooms, space to run and play? What's not to love? Albert Icehouse is one of those classic Texas spots - nothing fancy, but absolutely the best way to spend a beautiful afternoon. And only in Texas could a late December day (we were there on December 31!!!) be so beautiful that a day under the trees listening to live music with some beer is all I wanted. Check out their live music calendar and stop by for some music, beer, and R&R. I was home in Texas for about 8 days and the hours we were spent at Albert Icehouse were definitely one of the highlights of the trip. read more

After a day of drinking wine, it was time to switch over to beer. One this Sunday afternoon, it was a perfect spring day to sit under huge oak trees and listen to some live music. The picnic tables were perfect and we really enjoyed the vibe of this little Icehouse. It was hard to get a drink on this busy day with bartenders rotating out and more motorcycle crews showing up. Made a stop here as part of the TX Wino Tour. It's a quaint little outdoor honky tonk with live music a little dancing and a stocked bar. They have room for food trucks so you can order food while you listen to live music. I assume the ambience at night is amazing because lights are strung up in the trees. This icehouse/dancehall is super cute. It is the definition of Texas. Located in Albert, Texas. It is near all the wineries in Fredericksburg. We went on a Saturday mid day. They had live music in the patio. The patio is shaded by beautiful trees. The bar has beer and cocktails. They also have cider. Prices aren't bad. We got two beers for $7.50. They have clean bathrooms and parking is available on site. Even on a hot day, the shade keeps you cool. The day we went they had a food truck serving chicken sandwiches. Great roadside tavern with an open-air patio and picnic table seating under an enormous live oak. Food truck Cowboy Cantina is located on site (separate, more limited hours). I love sitting at the bar, sipping a drink and enjoying the cross breeze flowing through the open "windows" (no glass or screens). Limited but good selection of local draft beers and ciders, plus Texas wines and a full bar (including whisky from the Garrison Brothers distillery down the road). Place can get overrun with motorcyclists on summer Saturdays, but on most other days is pretty chill. There's a large dance hall on the property, which I think is open on weekend nights. There may be free live music when you visit - check their website for the schedule. Worth a stop! read more

We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived at Albert Icehouse and Dancehall. A beautiful hillcountry setting with huge oak trees and plenty of outdoor picnic tables and seating. The dancehall was very nice with ample seating and friendly bar staff. Two Tons of Steel was a great show. We will definitely be back! Be advised no food truck when we were there. I really love this little icehouse. It's the perfect spot to grab a few beers and enjoy a more laid back vibe when in the Fredericksburg area. They have had a food truck every time we've gone. The Saturday we went they had live music playing. The outside area is amazing. They have a massive oak tree that is perfect to sit under and enjoy your drinks. They have picnic tables to sit at, and outdoor games such as cornhole to play. They have a large restroom with multiple stalls outside as well. This place is a MUST when we are in the stonewall area. We decided to spend a beautiful spring afternoon at Albert Ice House to see Juliana Rankin. We showed up just as she was setting up. Apparently, the manger double booked and Juliana was asked to leave. She was told prior to that she could do her sound check (while the prior band was still playing) at the pavilion that did not have any electricity. Artists make their living by gigs. In my opinion l, it's unacceptable for a manager to double book - especially in such a remote locale I'm not sure if the owners of this establishment are aware, but the band who was to play after Juliana never arrived. There was no live music while we were there- which is what we came for- and many of the crowd left. I read more

We've stopped here quite a few times taking the back road from Blanco into Fredericksburg area. This is an honest to gosh "ice house" and dance hall. Rustic is a bit over-used but it fits. The beers are definitely cold and the bar help are always friendly. On the back side there is a little patio/seating area which is very pleasant when the weather is agreeable. Often there are food trucks/bbq but we haven't tried anything to eat yet--just a nice stop, good conversation and a cold beer. I don't know if it's been in any movies, as the Gruene Dance Hall has, but should be! read more

The Albert Ice House has got it going on. If you happen to be on 1623 with an hour or two to spare, you better stop by and get yourself a drink! It's the most peaceful and pretty, yet fun and divey bar I think I've ever been to. The service by Eric was great, the owner was on site with his beautiful wife, and the regular locals were hanging around making everyone feel at home. I went on a Sunday afternoon and can't wait to go back again - hopefully when a band is playing so I can see this place in action! Saturday 2/26/22: Small hole in the wall place. 2 dogs inside. Nearly tripped on one walking in & the other jumps up on a beer cooler to be petted by staff. This is OK in a home bar or pasture party but not a licensed establishment. Very few beers on tap. Ask for a dark beer & was referred an IPA. May be someone's scene but not mine. read more
