Desirea and everyone in the meat department is the only thing that is saving this place. Ever since the new system has been switched over, we've only experienced terrible customer service, terrible quality of produce/products, and overall negative atmosphere. As there aren't many grocery stores in Carlsbad, the options are limited and we would normally choose Albertsons for convenience and quality products. Not the case anymore. Their points system has been overhauled and made more difficult to receive customer service for points specifically. The management bullies and belittles some of the checkout staff that are merely trying to work, not a good example to set in Carlsbad. read more

Wow this place is huge, very nice Market. From plants to fresh produce, meat market. Very clean and beautiful. We received excellent customer service. (Not from here by the way) We are staying close by glad to have a market close. We would gladly come back if needed. read more

They always have a big selection and all the new stuff. I recommend 100% their pick up is great. We don't have to put up with crowds just make your order and they get it ready for you and you pick it up. It's great. read more

I am not a huge Albertsons Market fan (not the chain I grew up w in So Cal) as in albuquerque where we live I go to smiths. Pros: very large store and a variety of items including an eat in deli and lots of options for "take and bake" type quick food. Cons: crowded and in my opinion very high prices. I know they have no Smiths or Costco or Sams but if I lived her I would probably drive to Sams in Roswell periodically. We spent $350 in groceries for 3 adults for a week. Includes a bit of alcohol but meat was the high ticket. I try to always "buy New Mexico" but a lot of brands even salsa and tortillas are from Texas. Read those labels! read more

Frequent shopper here at this location happen to have LAURA as my cashier and let me tell you she was so rude an unwilling to help with any questions i had about my points. As you know the point system has changed and it is all left up to the consumer to use them well i hadn't heard or been told how and asking LAURA was sure no better. I will never get back in her line she doesn't smile she doesn't ask how you are she is only there to get a check. If you don't like your job then QUIT. Tells me "well you don't have enough to use anyways" that is not what I asked!!!!! She did not want to help or deal with anything other ringing up my groceries and getting me out of her line. Very unprofessional rude and uncalled for. She needs to be fired she is rubbing off her negativity on to people. read more

I went to the Carlsbad location today with my girlfriend who was shopping and as shes checking out the cashier asked me for my ID when I'm clearly 40+ and wasn't shopping. She states the law because I could be a teenager. okay Tina I give her my ID she denies my girlfriends wine purchase because babe didn't like that I questioned her. Then! She further tells us both to never come back into her line again! Really?! Then! Her supervisor tells us to leave the store because I told Mark that Tina's comments were racist. Then another customer of color saw the exchange and said Tina is that way with Us... Mark then tells us to leave the store! Then the store manager comes Mary and she at least tried to calm the situation but Mark threatened to call the police on us when we did absolutely nothing wrong. This place definitely needs a makeover. It's small, smells, and is very cramped. The produce isn't fresh or it's not ripe at all, specifically avocados in my case. Keys's talk about the parking. Like most Carlsbad folks, I was excited to see the new store open. It is much nicer than the previous building, and larger. The added food court and Starbucks are a nice addition. However, I came for lunch and they kept running out of items like gravy for potatoes, and needed to keep their hot lunch selections stocked with fresh samples instead of something that's been sitting. Many of the employees here get frustrated if you ask questions, and obviously want you to move along. I get it, it's busy, but when you take my order without telling me that all items will not be as ordered, you should not get upset when I ask where the rest of the items are. Lastly, many normal items in grocery have risen dramatically in price. Soap that used to be $3.99 is now $5.99, donuts used to be $4.99 a dozen, but are now $5.99. It is pretty obvious that stores in Carlsbad are increasing prices because the people here do. It have another option. Walmart is just as bad. Nice store, but some problems that make the new store not seem so friendly to people in Carlsbad. read more

The first time I went to the deli at the newly rebuilt Albertson's it was great, the chicken fried steak was good and the service was fast. But now I ordered the chicken fried steak and I it was horrible, and the gravy was the same consistency as water, luckily someone brought out a new thicker batch from the back and I asked to have the new gravy poured on top. The employees didn't seem to happy either and kept talking about who's not going to show up again today. No more chicken fried steak for me at this location. read more

New store really upped their game! Major improvement from the old store (which was the oldest of the old). New location is well laid out, awesome deli/salad selections, a produce area that rivals Whole Foods and aisles easy to navigate. Well done, Albertsons! Only problem is parking--it's always a zoo (typical Carlsbad problem). Hopefully they remove the old building and use that space for more parking. read more

I love Albertson's. The Carlsbad store is no longer Albertson's, but AlbertsonsMarket which is owned and operated by United Supermarkets out of Texas. Since United's motto is "Texans proudly serving Texans..." they obviously are not proud of serving New Mexico. Since the "changeover" base food prices increased by 10% and they advertise the daily savings from the new, higher base prices. The special prices are generally higher than Albertson's base prices were before. Additionally, many of my favorite brands are no longer carried. They have reduced the clutter, but that means the oil field hands will clear the store out on Saturdays, rather than Sundays as there is less volume of items. Finally, this store suffers like all businesses in Carlsbad, poor quality of work standards. They are continuously short of shopping carts inside the store. Not enough employees rounding carts up and returning them inside added to the lazy populace where the majority refuses to return the carts to the corrals. There are always carts everywhere in the parking lot. The one BIG positive is it's always better than WalMart. Since leaving Carlsbad (forever) in December of 2014 I cannot say if the place has improved. The "across the board" price increase was a shock and the loss of my favorite brands set them up for failure in my eyes. Employee service before the takeover was adequate. I had zero issues with the employees, other than not taking care of the parking lot and the state of the trash in the loading dock area. read more

Very poor infection control by the employees. Staff were not all wearing masks. My cashier was eating in between checking my groceries. She would take candy and stick it in her mouth along with her fingers . It was so gross. I saw others eating and drinking but not sanitizing their hands. I've gone to this store 3 times in the last month and each time I've had an issue. I've used the self check out machines (which never work properly) and all 3 times the machines were out of paper. One time the employee was knowledgeable enough to change the paper and give me my receipt. But the other two times they made excuses and said they couldn't give me my receipt. They didn't know how to change the paper, and if they did, they weren't motivated enough to retrieve my transaction and print my receipt. I collect rebates when I shop, so on two occasions now these employees have essentially taken money out of my pocket. I know it's hard to find decent help in Carlsbad, but please, train your employees adequately and someone for the love of God please teach people of Carlsbad some customer service skills. read more

I love using the pick-up StreetSide service especially ever since the Covid-19 coronavirus outbreak. The staff is always friendly and amicable. They are willing to go the extra mile for customer satisfaction and it always shows in the pick-up service. I also thoroughly enjoy the market at this store... from the meat market, to the bakery, to the deli, and my favorite section the bulk food section which was very heavily missed when closed due to virus but am very happy to have it back as they have such a large variety of locally sourced fruit, nuts, grains, and cereals. This Albertson's market has always been above satisfactory as a grocery store and I enjoy having this high of a quality grocery store. We love the Boars Head deli meats and cheeses we get them every week. The bakery always has fresh French bread. The meat market always has great selections at reasonable prices. And you must try the chocolate covered almonds or the chocolate covered banana chips from the bulk foods section I am truly in love with them!!! read more

There was a lot of chaos during the transition from Albertsons previous owner and United. The last couple of months has seen a lot of improvement in organization and presentation. I especially like the produce department (it was expanded and carries several new items that were previously difficult to find in Carlsbad) and the Butcher Block meat counter. The meat counter contains several items that were previously not sold in Carlsbad much (live shellfish such as clams). The meat can be a little expensive, but the Angus T-bone my wife and I had last night was delicious. My only complaint is that they no long carry live lobster, just previously frozen tails. Having lived for a time in New England, I'm rather fond of steaming my own live lobster. They have also increased their inventory of alternative foods (gluten free, organic, etc.) and every time I'm in the store I notice something new. For instance, they are carrying several different kinds of nut butters (almond, cashew, etc) in addition to peanut butter. On the negative side, some brands that I used to buy are no longer available, but that is to be expected. They also seem to decrease the packaging size options in some departments, only carrying one size when they previously had two. All in all, though, I'm very pleased with the new ownership and what they've done with the store. And, oh yeah--the employees are way friendlier than they used to be. The new management must really stress customer service. What a nice change in Carlsbad! read more
