Great winery! We have been here a couple timesBeautiful outdoor space (dog friendly, if they're on a leash :)) and great wines. The staff were so wonderful. We got a charcuterie board and some nice wine flights. They also had sandwiches. Live music and honestly more shade than I was expecting!! We were pleasantly surprised. If you do bring your dog, note they have a couple outdoor cats. My dog noticed one before we did but it was hiding under the deck and didn't want to come near people or pets :) read more

I've been to Alcantara a bunch of times. We've gone for girls wine trips, friends birthdays, and I've been with my husband. The grounds and views are beautiful. They have a large outdoor seating area in the grass over looking the vineyard. Lots of seating even when it's busy. We've been there when there's live music, which is fun. They've been accommodating for our larger groups when we've called ahead and made arrangements. I like some of their wines, like their Cab Franc. They also offer cheese plates, bread and olives, sandwiches, and pizzas for purchase. The vineyard is pet friendly outside, we've taken our boxer there a few times and it's been great. Alcantara is a beautiful spot and worth the visit! read more

This is a lovely gem quaintly tuck in the hills, with grapevine sprouting up, that welcomes dogs!! Our doggies loved it; we loved it!! The wine was tasty and the outside ambience is incredible. On a trip to Sedona I had asked a Facebook group that I'm part of for road trips. What a good winery is in the area and an overwhelming number of people recommended Alcantara winery. I can see why it's actually very charming. It's really cute but it's crowded because it's popular and I have to say I didn't eat there but the bruschetta and the pizzas that I did see looked phenomenal. I wish I had eaten there! I just rolled up to the bar to do some wine tasting and you can go pick a table sip on your wine and then you come back for your next one, but I wasn't going to do all that I just wanted to be in and out quick and dirty and Haley was my server. She was awesome and she told me how to spell her name and I can't remember and I did ask her if I could post her picture on Yelp. She was friendly in top of it and was able to juggle me who was in her face with other customers without making anyone feel like they had to wait. She was on top it! I wasn't necessarily a fan of the wines but I like sweet wine and I did end up buying a bottle of Muscato so I can recognize that the wines were very good. They just weren't to my taste. I did the white wine flight. And also as a warning just so you know if you're coming from the river, don't wear a bikini you have to wear clothes to go in there. There's a sign outside. read more

Horseback riding - There were 3 guides to support a group of 19 beginner riders. The ride also began over 45 minutes late due to how large of a group it was. The horses were incredibly green and there were multiple instances of bucking and riders losing control. The trail was gorgeous, but this is not a safe or recommended tour for beginner riders. read more

~~Tubing~~ I saw all the reviews on here were for the winery but I was unable to find one for the kayaking/tubing on the river ! We tubed for just over 2 hours and had a blast! They do not give you a heads up on the lil rapids you'll experience while you're there but tons of fun! Your paddles are a hard plastic ping-pong paddles so keep that in mind that you won't be able to paddle very well. They also give you a squirt gun which I personally used to touch the bottom and push off of things. Other than that when you're going through the rapids it's easy to run into the shore line and loose debris, so make sure you're paying attention so you can push off of things with your legs. The tubes are pretty sturdy as well you sometimes have to lift your butt up off of the tube so you don't get caught on rocks. You definitely do not need aqua socks, as I didn't need to get off of my tube the whole time. Sun screen and water are really the only things you need to bring and normal shoes such as crocs. Also wanted to add you can bring your own alcohol, we didn't. Rookie mistakes.. read more

It's hard to decide how to rate because of the situation but because of the two awesome employees that fixed the almost disastrous visit, I'll do 5 star because it's not fair that one person (manager) ruins a place. We had friends from Canada come in and of course, we wanted to take them to a local winery. One couple had already been here and liked it, not my first place to go but close to our campground. We went on Valentine's Day, we got there before the two tour groups but decided to wait to order after them. One coupe, not familiar with wine asked my opinion, they didn't like dry, I said I thought most AZ red was dry but I'm sure the people who work here would guide them in the right direction. Wow, was I wrong. We were all in line (waited until tour group was done), our guests said we would like a flight but don't want dry-the MANAGER said I can't choose your wines-our guests say we don't know anything about wines, we just don't want dry, the MANAGER says just read the menu. Wow. Myself and the other couple ordered sangria but I knew we were about to guzzle and go. We went back to the table and were about to leave but two amazing employees came over and honestly I don't know how but fixed the situation, not by throwing money or comps at us but by their genuine customer service. In my opinion, I understand there are good managers, but maybe if they are not customer service oriented keep them away from the public because this review, would be a very negative one if not for the two lovely ladies who rectified the situation. read more

The Cajun Cowboy was a great guide! Made my first experience riding a horse very easy and fun. Definitely will be coming back.

We came here on our way to Sedona because it was a dog friendly vineyard. Pros: the property is beautiful. Cons: 1. Their "flights" are not flights, they are a single taste of wine at a time, and if you want to sit outside you have to walk up to get the next serving of your tasting as they will not bring it to you. They also don't give you a new glass, or even rinse the glass when there is a sink right where they pour, between servings so they all blend together. 2. The wine is terrible. All in all this is a winery for people who do not regularly drink, or even like, wine. read more

Horseback Riding* Tomas and peanut were amazing! My girlfriends and I do a girls trip once a year and we found this magical place for a horseback ride. We stopped at the winery after the ride for a glass of wine and charcuterie board. Everyone is so friendly! I would definitely recommend. read more

This is a very nice winery that you can walk around the vineyard. You can also walk down to the Verde river. Mike was our bartender and he was a wealth of knowledge about the wine and the area. They also have river kayak tours that stop at this location. read more

Stopped in to try their wines and relax for a couple hours. The ladies behind the bar were not very friendly at all. No explanation of the history of the winery or hospitality at all. To make matters worse, the first pour was in a dirty glass with leftover moscato in it from a previous customer. No apologies of course. Overall a disappointing experience. read more

Very impressed! The 2017 Cab and Meritage were our favorites. Been out of AZ for 3 years and the wine had definitely improved! My fiance and I had planned a day trip to check out wineries in Jerome, and on a whim decided to stop at Alcantara vineyards. So glad we did because it was by far the best part of our trip! Turning off the highway at the Alcantara sign, you take a long dirt road. After a couple of minutes, you crest a little hill and see down in the valley an absolutely GORGEOUS scene of the vineyard-- totally unexpected. We parked outside the winery, which was in the form of a beautiful house. For $15 each (there was a $10 option, but we liked the complimentary wine glasses with the $15 option better), we received pours of 5 different wines each and wine glasses to take home with the Alcantara crest. Our pourer had a fantastic memory of which wines we had next in line and would actually find US roaming about to top off our glasses. We spent our time exploring the grounds, walking up and down rows of vines. We checked out the on site chapel, and I was tempted for a moment to have a destination wedding at Alcantara. It was incredibly beautiful-- the PERFECT place for an event. We loved the wines; and it was amazing the selection of wines they had that were Alcantara's own product. Perhaps the best part was the live music. It was a single man playing the guitar and singing, however he was incredibly talented and played a great variety-- including a great rendition of my favorite- 'Wagon Wheel' by Old Crow Medicine Show. Perfect ambiance in the perfect dining room and patio. One more thing I can't help but mention: I helped organize the U of A College of Medicine-Phoenix charity gala in January, and solicited wine donations from many of the wineries and vineyards in Arizona and in other locations, but Alcantara was the only vineyard/winery in Arizona to generously donate their product. Total coincidence that we ended up going there, but thought I'd mention that it's a wonderful place with great wine-- with very generous owners!! I told my fiance that I want to go back with some friends for my birthday in a few weeks. I wish they had a Bed and Breakfast attached!!!! Please? read more

My husband and I have driven by the sign for Alcantara Vineyards off of the 17 on the way from Phoenix to Flagstaff for years and finally decided to check it out. On our way back from Flagstaff, we dropped in for a tasting and couldn't believe we were actually in Campe Verde, Arizona. It is like a wine mecca in the middle of the desert bordered by the river. The owner Barbara, comes from a family of winemakers and this is her undertaking. Drove onto the grounds and up to the building. It was so surprising to see such a nice building in the middle of nowhere. The tasting bar was in the kitchen area with a beautiful tiered deck that overlooked the river, beautiful grounds, and the rows of vines. We then walked down to the river area and a group of canoers pulled up, got out and proceeded to their tasting - so cool: We proceeded to taste everything which was generously poured. The pourer was fabulous - friendly, not snooty and very knowledgeable. This is a place I cannot wait to go back to - oh and they are all organic...really! No added sulfites, everything was smooth and wonderful. Definitely a great and surprising experience. read more

What a beautiful vineyard! This place is ideal for a lovely time with friends or a loved one. We did the VIP wine tasting for $15 and you could pick five different wines to try. We added the cheese platter and it was delightful. There was music outside and plenty of seating. When we finished we took a beautiful walk through the vineyards to their chapel which had a church bell that you could pull and ring. The grounds are perfect for an intimate wedding or gathering too. Ignacio at Clear Creek winery highly recommended us to visit Alcantara and his recommendation was spot on. This lovely winery was hard to find, only due to construction, but well worth the search. A cozy winery in the valley with beautiful views, lest not forget how wonderful their wines were. Carrie was a wonderful hostess in the tasting room making excellent recommendations and what a pleasure to meet Barbara the owner. If ever in the area again we will make another stop and recommend you do as well. read more

Nice setting. Great music venue. Unfortunately did not care for any of the wines . Ordered the $20 cheese plate that came with some nice cheeses and crackers , store salami, one piece of prosciutto and really old dried out strawberries, and soft grapes. When we mentioned this the 'waiter' said oh yes, they ARE rotten and took my money! We got up as nobody ever came to ask how we liked the wines or explained the wines. Won't be back. We got to the winery on our way home after a weekend of some hard hiking, we were tired and sun burnt. We went to the 5 wine tasting $30 for the two of us, she needed a credit card to start a tab, sure no problem, then came the questions, Name, Phone number area code. Not used to having my CC entered into a computer for a tab, I asked why so much info, the reply was just in case there is a problem with the card. This to me was a red flag; I'm very protective of my CC. I took my card back and paid cash, at that point I found the staff to be a bit snooty and I observed that none of the other patrons were asked for extra info. The wines were ok , the pours were very short, we also ordered the antipasto plate, nothing to write home about, my friend did like one of the wines, so I got it for her, It was a over priced at $27. We were given no info on the wines except for what was on the selection sheet, also I wanted to get some history on the winery itself and there was none, the staff didn't know anything. I guess I dropped about $90; I should have gone to steakhouse. I'll never go back. read more

Traveling to this winery, I almost turned back around because it was off the beaten path, but I am so glad I didn't! This was a hidden gem that made the drive so worth while! The views, the staff and the wines were all top notch. My family and I were treated like great friends throughout our visit, we didn't want to leave. We had the premium cheese plate and it was excellent. It's also pet friendly so our skeeter was treated as well as a guest, it was great. The resident dog Charlie was so friendly and gave the visit that added special touch. We will definitely be back! read more

An incredible find in a most unexpected location... I'm shocked ot see there is only one other review of the winery. We had a great opportunity to have a dinner onsite, and what a dinner it was! But as others have posted, you will never expect to find such a beautiful place in the middle of the desert. You're driving in thinking winery? Here? No way. But it is a really nice little operation surrounded by vineyards, right where two riviers meet. And the wine is not what you'd expect from a state not really known for its wine production. Unlike others in the state, they're producing a lot of good stuff. (Granted some of the varietals they told us were made with sourced grapes, but hey, you can only do so much in the desert). This is definitely worth a stop when headed north to the high country, or back south when you see there is a blockage at the bottom of the hil and you've got some time on your hands! read more

Great setting but questionable service. We were there for Water to Wine kayak trip and tasting. Staff at alcantara told me we dont make any money on that. Seemed offended i wanted a taste before buying a bottle. Barbara that owns the place was very nice and welcoming. I would stop by again. This review is for the venue itself. The wines are fine, and I'd go back for them. But as a wedding venue, the place needs some improvement. Okay, a lot of improvement. Access to the vineyard is via a single lane extremely dusty washboard road with a nice dropoff on the passenger side as you head in. While this is mildly annoying if you've got a clean car, it's a serious concern if you've got guests arriving in good clothes for a wedding. They're all going to come up the same color as the road and spitting dust. This place needs a water truck to settle the dust on the wedding day. The chairs for the ceremony (in the open-air "chapel") were set up the day before and were NOT dusted off before the ceremony the next day. We saw the same few rocks (one of the little flowergirl's choices) sitting on the same chair the next day, and several guests had dusty backsides after the ceremony. It's quite a walk for some older guests from the chapel to the winery, and the lone "off-road-tire-equipped" golf cart was mostly unavailable. The tables for the reception were crammed together at one end of the lawn. The winery, apparently, wants to leave as much space for their drop-in customers as possible, even when they have an event renting the space. It felt like a chinese restaurant. They need to level the lawn; several tables had a pronounced tilt. There are spots where there's stagnant water and mud, and several guests had an opportunity to dip expensive shoes into the muck, which wasn't marked. The edison-bulb lighting and a few streetlight-style fixtures kept going out during the event, pitching the entire back yard into darkness. There are no lights on the single-lane washboard (and, again, dusty) road out of the venue. Mind the drop on the driver's side as you leave. To be fair, the bride's dressing room was more than adequate and the restrooms were clean and well-kept. read more
