Food is always delicious and the noise level is low. We have always had a great server.

We, went for the Saturday music and dinner on the patio for the first time. When we arrived, the hostess said "Are you ordering food?", with a really negative attitude. My husband said yes, we will be ordering appetizers and drinks and maybe dinner. She snatched the menus and put us at the only table for two directly in the sun with no umbrellas. When we asked if we could sit at another table with some shade, she was really rude and just said "No", we're really busy right now. The hostess never said "Welcome" or "happy to see you" or anything welcoming at all and was rude the entire time we interacted with her. We stayed because we liked the music we could hear and our server was very welcoming and gave us super good service. The food was really good and it was just very disappointing to be greeted so rudely for first time or 100th time visitors. read more

I am giving our experience 2 stars only because eating outside by the edge of the golf course was lovely. We had reservations for the patio, but all the tables were in full-on sun with no umbrellas or shade, so we opted to move to "self service" under the trees. Beautiful setting with a wonderful breeze. We were served a decent wine in a flimsy plastic cup because "plastic is not allowed on the golf course" although every golf cart driving by had multiple single-serve water bottles, our plastic utensils came sealed in a little plastic bag (which quickly blew away) ... We scanned the QR code on the table, placed our order which a runner eventually dropped on the table. They did not ask if we wanted ketchup or salad dressing...just disappeared. We had to get up, walk into the restaurant and ask for those things. The French fries were AWFUL: clearly fried in oil that had been used for something else (we could not figure out what the strange taste was, but it was strong) My veggie quesadilla and hubbie's sandwich were meh. And beware of the electronic billing. Even though they added an automatic 20% service charge (for NO service provided), an "additional" tip screen came up automatically at the standard options of 20%-22% .... If you are not playing close attention, you would end up leaving a 40% tip. Again: for "self service' with our only interaction with a staff member was to drop our food on the table. I prefer the spring/summer menu over the supper club style they are doing during the winter. The steak frites was pretty dry. The butter chicken is a safe option. But I'd be happy eating any of their pizza's year round. The Salad here is sorry for the price. Service can be hit or miss. Ambiance is still nice, especially the patio on a nice day. read more

My family and I came here after my sister's graduation ceremony from her MBA program. Her husband Justin planned the lunch to celebrate. This restaurant is located in Rockford's premier golf club, so the atmosphere felt very much like a place where family and friends gather to have a nice meal or share some drinks. They had a pretty decent selection of food, but I think one of our favorites were the buffalo shrimp, and the burrata appetizer. Service was a little slow at first, but once we got started, our girl was on top of everything. Drinks were pretty good also! read more

While in Rockford for my daughter's second Baseball tournament, the parents decided to eat here for our night out. It is really weird because this restaurant/ bar is connected to two other restaurants. Of the three, this is supposed to be more downscale in attire, but not on prices. The restaurant itself is nice with the restaurant open to the air with a mesh ceiling to ground cover. The decor is modern and the service was friendly albeit not really up to par. For a place that should be a little upscale, they got a lot of our orders wrong or not served on time. The food itself was mixture of things, some were really good, some just meh and some terrible. This is coming from not just my opinion, but opinions of others in our group who had tasted everything. Here is some of what we had: Sweet and sour brussel sprouts: crispy brussel sprouts, honey, lime zest, Sriracha dust - this was one of the really good things. They separated so that it was like brussel sprout chips. Really tasty and my fave. Cheddar and Gouda tots: house tater tots stuffed with smoked Gouda, cheddar, chives, bacon crumble, served with jalapeno ranch dressing - kinda hyped up for the presentation and price. I mean they served 4 tots the size of 2 put together. It tasted just ok. I love tots so I wanted to taste them. Buffalo shrimp: blue cheese crumble, ranch - this was ok, kinda weird because I am used to breaded shrimp where this was just cooked shrimp smothered in sauce. BBQ sandwich - presentation...awesome, taste, just ok not really worth the price Overall, if I were to go back to Rockford, I may go back for a drink and brussel sprouts. read more

One of the worst service experiences of my life. They sat us down at a table and nobody checked on us for over half an hour. They then gave the food we ordered to someone else. With the weather in the 80s, we joined some friends at Alchemy on Friday evening and sat on their patio for dinner. The server (Mark) was very attentive, checking back often to see if we wanted to order food or just continue to chill with cocktails and enjoy the outdoor atmosphere overlooking the golf course. We eventually ordered the seared tuna(2), steak frites, and the pork chop dinners. The food, the service, and the atmosphere were excellent, which made for a very enjoyable evening. Came in on a gloomy Saturday. At first there was no host so walked into the bar area. Then a host showed up. Strangely then throughout my time at the restaurant I think I counted 6 host/hostesses. I think they were used to bigger crowds and a lot of the patrons seemed to know each other. Once we were seated out server was very attentive. Reviewed the specials. I had a great Octoberfest beer (forgot name) and my friend had a cocktail that was served in a very pretty glass. There craft beer selection was limited; I think maybe 5 choices on draft. They had a large wine list. We both ordered pizzas. I had the predator and it was amazing. All the meats were so flavorful. My friend had the one with the Mac n cheese and bbq sauce. Sauce was a little sweet for me but went well with the mac n cheese. The crust on the pizza was great. Nice and crispy. I was expecting more of a flatbread style so I was happy with how it turned out. I hear when the weather is nice they open the garage doors. Our group of seven had a reservation on a recent Friday night. Seated promptly with good service. However, when they switched to a supper club idea, I was looking forward to a supper club relish tray. It was ridiculous. It probably had five single pieces of vegetables, a tablespoon of cheese and wrapped crackers/ breadsticks for three of us. The menu says it's complimentary when you order an entrée. Very disappointing. They need to visit Iowa or Wisconsin to see how to do a relish tray. The diced chicken in my pasta dish was chopped so fine that it was difficult to pull it through the pasta to manage it. Lots of work on that meal. I'm not sure I'd visit again until summer when outdoor dining is open and they have a different menu. read more

Dined with friends recently. Wait staff was attentive and friendly. Great For outdoor dining weather permitting. Drinks were good. We all ordered salads with added meats. The Arugula salad Was basically arugula. Candied walnuts, apples etc. we're very difficult To find. Grilled chicken should be made to order; it was cold and dry obviously made up Ahead of time. Italian chopped salad was not your typical true chopped salad and also Lacked sausage. Need to step it up in the kitchen. read more

I recently picked up some to-go pizzas and they were GREAT. We tried the "Fun-guy" which was perfectly savory, as was the "pesto pie" with wonderful flavors. It was recommended over the phone when I was ordering that I should try the buffalo shrimp, which were good, but absolutely 100% not worth the $14. The portion size was really small and not shareable. If you're passing through Rockford in your travels, this is a great spot to check out. I should have known better when the pizza was served up piping hot and the shrimp required a blast in my hotel room's microwave to bring it up to temp. I called a few places and couldn't find anywhere that was open, so I called Alchemy back and spoke with the girl on the phone, who was stunningly nice. I placed my order and walked to the restaurant. Shortly after arriving my food was ready to go and I headed back to the hotel. I ordered a bacon bleu burger (med rare), a side salad and a spicy shrimp/bleu appetizer. The food was hot and tasted GREAT. I was so impressed with the service and food here that if I'm every back in town I will definitely visit Alchemy again, for the service and the food. read more

Alchemy, Big Al's Bar, or Giovanni's...I am confused. This is part bar, part restaurant, part conference center, heck, they may even change your oil and rotate your tires. This was my first visit and I was confused. I walked around to the different areas to learn what they have to offer. I was told that the food is the same in all areas so I sat in the bar. I had a hard time deciding what to order as many of the menu items were a little too fancy for me. I finally chose the American Dip and chips. This is essentially a french dip sandwich. The sandwich was ok, but the chips were hard and void of taste. The service was slow and distant. I just can't see returning. My ticket before tip was $18.03. read more

Fun and stylish setting for some creative, if not necessarily stand-out taste-wise food and drink. I'm not from Rockford and not a frequent visitor to the area, so maybe places like this are a dime a dozen here, but they're not in the rural areas I frequently find myself. First off, I do need to acknowledge there's a bit of a tragically hip vibe to the restaurant complex. I'm sure it's me: I walk in to a place to have dinner on a random Sunday - Thursday before 7, the hostess is in club clothes and all I can think is that I'm tired just greeting her and asking for a table. The bartender was helpful, efficient, and friendly, she knew her drafts (which I appreciated and benefited from) all while she fended off (with a flair, I might add) creepy bar lurkers making a sad attempt at picking her up. NOTE TO READERS: DO NOT HARASS YOUR BARTENDER. She's a person trying to do a job, being friendly and helpful because it's call the 'hospitality business' and her pay is tip-dependent. The entrance is via the main building entrance, rather than the single door that leads directly into the restaurant space; it's not intuitive, but there is signage to keep you from yanking on the outside of a fire door like a doofus. The layout is a bit odd for a pizza restaurant, especially one with limited potential foot-traffic, and strikes one as more typical for a cafe. The space is long and narrow, with the roll-up garage style windows that run along one (long) side adjacent to the parking lot, with the bar about two-thirds of the way into the space. My guess is that all of the restaurants in the building share a central kitchen and running staff. One of the servers I overheard mentioned that one could order from any of the restaurants' menus at any time, which is convenient, but can mean for unpredictable service and long kitchen hold times. It seemed like a pretty busy spot with lots of groups of young professionals meeting for a meal and hanging out and business travelers. Parking is a fairly small private lot. Easy access in and out. I enjoyed my food, but I stuck to the appetizers and pizza that a number of other reviewers have mentioned. Pizza had a nice crust and flavor, creative toppings, and the price was more than reasonable. I will note: it didn't reheat particularly well at all (and I tried a stove, toaster oven, and microwave), so enjoy it all when it comes out from the kitchen! The sprouts were good and well described by others. The tots would better be called potato croquettes with a dash of crispy bacon. They tasted pretty great - the cheese inside is perfect - but the textures, shape, and size are definitely more like croquettes than tots. The food was excellent, possibly the best steak that I have ever enjoyed. The service, however, was incredibly disappointing. For a 'supper club,' I felt rushed. The server kept pushing us to order, even though we told him we'd like to enjoy a few drinks first. We felt rushed the entire time. We were there to enjoy the evening with friends, we drink alcohol, order appetizers , we weren't just there occupying space. Alchemy was one of my favorite spots to go - when it was in its original location. The food was great and the servers were always polite and helpful with selections and new selections. My husband and I spontaneously wanted to go out for a fancy dinner after work and decided to try the new location. As soon as we walk in the entire room was empty and it felt weird. The staff asked if we had a reservation and we did not. Again, the entire place was empty including the bar area. The receptionist disappeared to 'ask' about a table. Several minutes later she returned and sat us at a table right in the middle of the entry way - not by a window or off to the side. We asked for another table and she said no - again ALL tables were empty. We sat down and immediately the sun was in my husbands eyes so again we asked to move but she just closed the blinds. We did not receive service until several minutes later where we were given paper menus and no offers for water. Finally we decided to just get up and leave. I will never go back. So sad. read more

2 burgers and fries with calanari appetizer and 1 soda and 1 ice water hit $70.00. Yeah you heard it. It was ok but not worth the money it cost. Was disappointed in the prices. Wasn't planning on 1 soda and 1 ice water with 2 burgers with fries and calamari app coming to such a high price but it was literally 70 and ten 10 dollar tip... cant say i could afford to go again. Next time I will go elsewhere and spend a whole lot less money for what cost so much here. They need to change from price range $$ to price range $$$$$$. read more

This my friend who stated not to wear a "wife beater" top in there is misinformed. First of all this is not a 5 star restaurant, it is a golf course, and claims to be a pizzeria. Try Francisco's, or Hoffman House, those are 5 star you are misinformed about what upscale means. read more

Alchemy has a great beer list and Happy Hour. Add a wonderful patio and we were set for a nice time when passing through Rockford after a bike ride last week. Our beers were 1/2 off! Wow! Schweety and I wanted to split the Spring Ragu pasta and they brought it to the table in 2 separate bowls. Nice touch! The pasta is house made which really makes a difference. The sauce was a kale pesto which matched perfectly with all the spring veggies: mushrooms, asparagus, etc. Be sure to add the house bread, It's and extra two dollars but worth it! My table got: 1.)Brussels sprouts (which were less of the actual sprout and more of the pieces that make up the sprout and then deep fried) 2.) Beer Battered Calamari (really good! Comes with a sweet chili sauce) 3.) Legacy Burger (the bacon was incredibly undercooked, they forgot to put the tomato jam on it, the burger itself was VERY good, the sweet potato fries were not salted) 4.) Sue's Chicken Angel Hair Pasta (the pasta wasn't salted at all but the chicken was SUPER salty. It worked if you swirled the pasta on the chicken) 5.) Seasonal Pop-tart (it was cinnamon brown sugar. It was alright. I wouldn't get it again. I wanted there to be more feeling but it was mostly dough) I say give it a try. HAPPY HOUR . . gets you half off drafts & some well drinks. When I say drafts, I mean craft drafts. 10 oz. of deliciousness for about $2.50?! Yes please! Their menu is sick & it makes for a real tough decision when you're ordering so, we ate like we've never seen food before. Here's the rundown: Deviled eggs - You need to get these, they're not your average deviled eggs. Buffalo shrimp - perfect balance of creamy goodness & a little heat. You could literally lick the bowl clean when you're done. If the room was a little darker, I might have. Mack with back - I don't even know what to say about this little gem. Mac and cheese, bacon, red onion & BBQ sauce. No further description needed. I'll just leave that there. If all of THAT wasn't enough, we decided to order The Forager. It was pretty good, I especially liked the peppered salami. We totally monopolized this guys table for a good hour and a half (maybe two. . I lost track after the third beer) while drinking & eating and he was totally okay with it. Not a big bill either. We will definitely be back. With dim lighting, smooth music, and their name spelled out in lightbulbs, how could Alchemy be anything but fancy? The mood is good, and the food is even better. The waiter was very helpful in making sure you are taken care of, and that you are not left waiting to ask for more; however, he's not a linger-er. The main hit here is their pizza, which ranges from your average cheese to something in your wildest dreams. However, keep in mind that you are at a snazzy place; your buck won't go a long way. What you don't get in size you'll get in taste (meaning the pizza's are about 10 inches, and go for around $13). If you're gluten-sensitive (like me!) this place has a lot of options for you too! Almost anything off the menu can be turned gluten-free. My main hit of the night: the gelato flight. I searched everywhere to find some sort of picture of it before I hit up the place, to get a general feel, but couldn't find one anywhere, so I went with my gut feeling and got it. BEST DECISION EVER. If you love dessert, you'll love this. One downside: our table was super wobbly. You'd think they'd keep up on that. But then again, they aren't perfect. read more
