I thought this might be a tad on the sweet side, but it was not... it was wonderful and very refreshing. I went with the Szechuan Ginger Beef Dip, which came with these great fries. The sandwich itself was decadent. I was literally the 1st person through the door on a Monday night. I sat at the bar and was able to chat with the owner who recently won a couple of big industry cocktail awards. The bartender was super friendly and provided great service. One doesn't necessarily think of Rockford as a culinary destination, but this is a local joint run by a born in raised young woman... Crave is a worthy destination dining spot. But if you're driving by on the interstate it's also worth the stop. The hours are great. The dining room and bar are well appointed and there are even some outside tables. When you're on the road, seek out those local joints. I'm really glad I did.

The vibe was fun and energetic. It was upscale without being pretentious. Our server Alyssa was so very friendly and knowledgeable of the menu which I really appreciated. She recommended the sourdough focaccia and ahi poke for appetizers and they did not disappoint! For our entrees we ordered the filet. We ordered it medium but it came out medium rare but I didn't mind. Butter soft. The Thai cod was very flavorful; the heat was perfect, not overbearing. The cocktails were some of the best we have tasted. We ordered the bourbon drink and the psyche. Wow! No wonder the bartender won a prestigious award. It was a beautiful day so we chose to sit on the rooftop. What a beautiful view of the city and the river. It was a little chilly with the wind but we endured because of the view. The restaurant itself was not super busy but definitely steady. Every single staff member we interacted with was so incredibly friendly. We felt very welcomed to be there. We shared their Imposter Sandwich (Tofu) and a large order of Tots with the Sauce Sampler. The sandwich was phenomenal! Crispy, flavorful, & large enough to share. Tots were also cooked perfectly and seasoned well. We both left VERY full. My Only complaints/criticism was that their sauces were mostly misses. We only liked 1 or two of the ones we tried. They also don't offer a sauce with any heat. I personally prefer super spicy and really wanted more spice with what was offered. Also as a vegetarian, I never understand how a Tofu sandwich can be significantly more expensive than regular meat sandwiches. That part is always frustrating to me knowing how cheap tofu is. I also do not run a restaurant and do not have intimate knowledge of the overhead cost of things so I am totally ignorant to that part. It just can feel "predatory" because it's the only option for people that dont eat meat. in closing, this place is Awesome! I probably wouldn't recommend coming here if you're in a rush. Once I got the food, though, it was one of the best salads I've had in a long time (technically called the "Disco Greens"). It had a citrus taste, which some subtle hint of salt from the parmesan chip. The eggplant appetizer was ok, but tasted sour for my liking. I believe I got the Cavatappi? Which the noodles resemblance kind of threw me off, but it was good overall. Drinks were also very tasty. I had their own version of their espresso martini.
