Horrible experience, awful, horrible company, do yourself a favor and find another! They took 6 months to install one window that was supposed to take 1-2 days (I have pictures of their mishaps and mess!!). They speak to women customers like we are completely ignorant and can't understand what they are talking about, their workmanship is poor, management is horrible and the worst customer service experience ever! If you don't live in certain areas in Montgomery County and are of certain ethnicities, you do not get treated the same as your Caucasian counterparts!! And, get this, their workers simply walked into my home found a bathroom and urinated all over my toilet and left dirt in my sink. read more

I used ALCO Products, Bethesda, Maryland to install James Hardie siding, including all trim areas with Hardie products on the rear of my house. I decided to maintain my home's stucco look elsewhere and they applied a fresh coat of paint to match the color of the siding. In general, the company lacks design ideas despite the many design ideas featured in James Hardie brochures and websites. They excel in measuring your home and providing cost estimates based on various product types--Hardie, vinyl, etc. Overall, ALCO did a good job, but there were some workmanship issues I brought to their attention. They were slow to respond to view them and have not followed through and followed up. This leads me to the one basic question to address in a company's review---do I recommend them? They came out to look at the workmanship issues---a vinyl threshold at the sliding door to the deck that gives away when stepped on and window sills also covered in flashing (rather than Hardie Board/plank) that would also give if you pressed them and potentially leave a dent. All these areas per contract should be Hardie fiber cement products that would not bend or dent. There has been no further contact from ALCO regarding these defects. Considering these quality issues and lack of concern and follow through, I would suggest you look elsewhere. I feel that they have made their warranty period mute and at the proper time, I will seek relief through small claims judgements. read more

We had Alco complete a window installation project in 2019. The project was not inexpensive ($10k+), but Alco's price was reasonable given the scope of the work. We went with Alco because the owner, Zak, genuinely seemed like a good guy and they are a local company. The problem started once the Alco's crew came out to actually complete the work. We had a new window cut into our existing exterior to match an already existing window. The issues we faced were: 1) the window that was installed was not the same size; 2) the window was installed around 5 inches too high compared to the original window; and 3) when the window was reinstalled, it was again installed incorrectly and so it did not match the original window. At this point, everyone is frustrated because the work kept having to be redone, which angered Alco's crew and was frustrating for us as the homeowners. Zak's solution was not to get the window correctly installed, but for us to just "live with it" with a $500 credit on a five-figure project. The real problem I have about Alco's approach is that its failure to correctly install a window is causing issues with our much larger project of re-siding our home. As siding is all about straight lines, the windows not being level is very noticeable and not much can be done to fully fix the issue (outside of re-installing the window). In summary, I am not impressed with Alco's on-site crew and the quality of their work. I am also not happy with how Alco deals with issues that may pop up on a project (as they always seem to do). In my opinion, if you are looking to hire a company for work that requires attention to detail and precision, I would not go with Alco. If you are looking for a company that will own its mistakes and fix problems that arise during a project, I would not go with Alco. read more

My wife and I decided that we did not want the construction grade siding on our house that was being put on all the houses on our street after a hail storm pitted the existing houses. ALCO's product had a thicker siding with a lower profile which increased its resistance to wind sheer significantly. We upgraded the external house wrap and insulation as well which added an R-15 rating which has noticably warmed our large living room in the winter. The upgrades have paid for themselves and our house looks superior to the neighbors' houses. read more

Alco completed my roofing project approximately three years ago, I was and still am ecstatic. Although they are a small family owned business, they pack a big punch. Alco was a one stop shop for my project, which included Certainteed Roofing, Hardie Siding, trim, gutters and capping the windows. My home went from an eyesore to a place that I enjoy looking at every time I pull up. Every individual I spoke with was courteous and attentive. The salesman, project manger and installers provided one hundred percent customer service. Even though the heat was unbearable, the project was finished within timeline. I highly recommend this company and plan to do business with them in the near future. read more

From beginning to end, Alco Products served us well. Shaun visited the house, discussed the roofing project, and came back with a competitive estimate. One of the things I liked about the estimate was that it included every small detail, down to what the incoming crew should do each morning and evening, as well as the cost for unanticipated extras (such as replacing the boards under the tiles). Everything was spelled out and clear. This summer was historically rainy, so the project ended up being put off by a few days. Our project manager, Scott, stayed in close touch with me to let me know when I could expect the crew. Personally, I'd rather have my project delayed by a couple of days because they are looking after the customer in front of me because that suggests they'll give me similar care and attention. As it turned out, I was right. The crew was cheerful and mugged for my camera when I went outside to take pictures. Watching them move up and down the roof on ropes was impressive. They set up drop cloths over my bushes so that none of the foliage was damaged. The entire roof replacement took about a day and a half. The after-work cleanup was excellent. We found a few almost invisible nails in the grass and that was it. All told, I was impressed with every facet of Alco's business, from initial contact to communication during the project to completed roof. read more

We are almost finished with a project with Alco, and I couldn't say enough good things about the way they work with customers, the speed with which the project is proceeding and the excellent quality. We had several issues that needed to be accomplished and coordinated - all well within Alco's wheelhouse - so we had them do it as a package. Gutters, siding, and a side-mounted rail all had to work together, as well as moving a door that a different contractor had installed incorrectly. Zak coordinated these efforts beautifully, coming by regularly to check on the work and answering the phone in a jif when we had questions. I Rated the Review of Alco Products Company in Bethesda, MD with a "Conditional" OK. Some areas of the work & product were admirable others (as noted below) Not-So-Much. Siding and Gutter Replacement Job on 1200 square foot house w/ no prior gutter problems. Price of Job Contracted for $9,500.00. Zak Kreisman (Owner) - affable; engaging personality, but over promising & under delivering. Siding Crew - attentive & dependable. Gutter Crew - quick, fast and in a hurry. Product Quality - beautiful & nothing short of "aesthetically appealing." Job began on 7/16/2013 (Tues) and finished on 7/22/2013 (Mon). During siding instillation, crew inadvertently severed cable wire w/ nail/screw. Zak promised to reimburse (when we received the cable bill). Payment & Receipt - 6 hours after crew completed job on 7/22/13, Zak was at the door to pick up balance due on contract w/ promise of receipt for total payment Forth Coming. - 24 days later (8/15/13), we received the Receipt for Payment(s) Made. Reimbursement - 7/30/13, informed Zak of the amount owed $98.73 (as noted on the cable bill). - 2 weeks later on 8/14/13, I emailed Zak a reminder of his Earlier promise to reimburse for cable repair. - The following day, Thursday (8/15/13) at 5:55pm, Zak arrived at my door and handed me a check in an envelope for $100. Gutter Leak - 7/22/13 (Mon), Gutter installers replaced gutters in 35 minutes. - 7/27/13 (Sat), with 1st rain since gutter installation, noticed gutter leakage over metal back porch. - 7/29/13, 1st notice to Zak of gutter leak. - 8/1/13, original gutter installers spent 20 minutes working on back gutter. - 8/5/13, 2nd notice to Zak of unresolved gutter leakage. A minimum of 20 communications were made to Zak including the following dates: - 8-19 (2) // 8-23 (1) // 9-12 (2) // 9-22 (1) // 9-23 (2) Zak came out // 10-11 (1) // - 10/12 ((2) // 10-29 (5) including (4) unfulfilled promises to get back w/ us // - 11/4 (1) Zak informed us his worker was sick. - 11-5 (1) Zak's worker worked less than an hour to remediate problem. - 11/6 (1) Emailed Zak THANKING him for sending worker out on 11/5/13 to address problem. - 11/27 (2) including LAST email from Zak stating "... I'll call you" back. After not hearing from Zak (as PROMISED) for over a month, we secured contractor to ameliorate and remedy the problem. *** Please Note: The instillation of the new Alco gutter(s) was the fundamental reason (along w/ Zak's assurances that we'd be PLEASED w/ the work his company would provide) that we opted to go w/ Alco & Zak. Siding Separation - 2/20/14 (7 months following the installation of the new siding and a month prior to this REVIEW, the wife called Zak, notifying him that a few siding panels had separated from the house. To Zak's CREDIT, within a few hours, he dispatched 2 men to re-attach the siding which they did promptly & professionally. I can only hope, this attentiveness will continue from Alco in General & Zak in Particular. read more

Great attention to detail and frequent communication to let you know how things are going. Senior company management regularly appears on site to check on quality and progress. In 2014 I followed up on a friend's recommendation and hired Alco to install new kitchen cabinets, counter top, sink, faucet, new appliances. I had interviewed two other contractors one of whom was of the-you-get-everything and we will install- to one who told me what he wanted in my kitchen and who would obviously not respect my budget. I loved the professionalism of Zak and the workers, so I hired them again this year to install new vanities, vanity tops, and sinks in two smallish bathrooms. Once again Zak listened to my wishes, made valuable suggestions, and respected the agreed upon budget. Work was done efficiently and accurately. They asked and honored my wishes. The workers were courteous, neat, respectied my property, (e.g., taking off shoes) and cleaned up when finished, I had hoped the whole project would have started sooner, but who does not? I was not in any great pinch to get it done and realize that my project was not a big one. Nevertheless Zak and others took care and saw the project through to my compete satisfaction. If I had more projects to do at this point, I would hire Alcoa again. read more

Alco did a great job on my window replacement project and I recommend them wholeheartedly. I replaced seven large sliders on my weatherized porch. I needed high-performing windows since the room is 80% glass all around and cycles through seasonal extremes of heat and cold. I had done a lot of internet research on window performance characteristics and read a lot of horror-show complaints about problems with suppliers and installers, so it was important for me that the installer company should be an authorized distributor as well. It was also important to me that the installation company and window manufacturer also be well established and likely to still be in business for many years to back up their warranties. Alco has no negative reviews on the net to date and has been in business for many years. Howie, their sales rep, was knowledgeable and informative. I was impressed that he did not push me toward pricier unnecessary options, such as triple-glazing. He gave me a great price on Soft-Lite windows, priced comparably to Simontons but with superior performance stats. The windows were measured, delivered and installed in about a month as promised and fit the openings like a glove. Spencer, their installer, cheerfully answered all my questions and finished off the installation beautifully. Inclement weather required returning the next to complete the exterior cladding and caulking and Spencer returned as promised and cleaned up thoroughly on both trips. read more
