Next to the register was a small package wrapped in red & white string, labeled "Bonnie's Uncommon Fruitcake." I've been a sucker for trying fruitcakes ever since I had my first slice of Freihofer's Fruitcake over seventy years ago. Here was a locally baked fruitcake with no difficult to pronounce or preservative ingredients. That definitely made it "Uncommon." Pecans, dates, candied fruit (cherries, pineapple), eggs, sugar, flour, baking powder, and salt. That's it! I thought it tasted delicious. It was not overly sweet, had a good amount of nuts and candied fruit, and there was minimal cake (flour) holding it all together perfectly. Okay, these were seriously good. When I showed up around 10:30 on a recent Saturday morning, the air smelled of freshly frying donuts. It's always a good sign. And while there were donuts on the counter, when I asked if I could get any hot donuts the clerk went into the back and pulled out some steaming hot specimens. That may not sound like such a big deal, but as we say in this part of the world, it's huge. Hot apple cider donuts are so much better than their room temperature version. Which isn't to say that just because a donut is hot, it will be good. I've had my share of hot and disappointing cider donuts too. The hot apple cider donuts at Boehm Farm were delightful. Perfect? No. But absolutely great. And if you're into exploring the farms and orchards in and around the Capital Region, it's definitely worth your time, as I would put this small, off the beaten path orchard, in the top third of the ones I've visited. Maybe even in the top quarter. More than anything, it makes me think. If Boehm Farm has been hiding in plain sight all these years, how many other excellent orchards remain to be discovered by those relatively recent arrivals to the region? Farms! We've got 'em. And you should visit and support as many of our regional growers as possible. Remember: no farms, no food. Plus, they are charming and magical places. Especially in the fall.

All that said, it's still a four star experience. First for the experience of seeing many Muslim families shopping together on a Friday, and particularly the happy customers waiting at the busy halal butcher when their orders are delivered. Second for the depth of product which challenges the casual shopper but lets me know this would be a good source for a very specific product, like an obscure fruit or vegetable or one of the dozens of middle eastern flatbreads on offer. The labneh section alone deserves an award for brand diversity. Like it or not, I know I'll be back and am glad we have Farmer's Indian Market in our community.

Some days they are closed for maintenance, which they will notify you of on Facebook. You drive in the gate and park on the dirt path along the berry bushes. There is a small table set up under a canopy. The farm takes payment before or after picking. They accept cash, check, or Venmo. Today, a quart of blueberries cost $8/quart and $5.50/pint. The bushes are marked, and the paths are clear/not overgrown. Two varieties of blueberries were available for the picking.
