What an amazing selection of foods but for me, especially the produce! Huge and unique selection while keeping great prices. I also love the hot bar. I got the spicy veggie and chicken samosas, a chicken tandoori skewer, 4 pieces of falafel, aloo bonda and a mirchi pakora all for $18. The food was fresh, delicious and spicy but not unbearable. I wish this was closer to me so I could go more frequently but if you are nearby, it is a must try!

Farmer's India Market has stores in MA, CT, and, now, NY. Primarily a Desi (Indian, Pakistan, and Bangladesh)/South Asian grocery store, it is a wonderful addition to the area. Others have mentioned that it is more cost effective to shop here for certain items - rice and spices being at the top of the list. Some dairy items like half and half should be left for your Aldi runs. Additionally, the variety of more "exotic" fruits and veggies can be found here but you do have to look closely at certain items. An observation - some of the strawberries were already molding in their containers and the lemon grass was past its prime but still on display. Look carefully for the good stuff; there's lots to be had. Another observation - the tables have turned (somewhat) in this store. The ethnic minority of the local population is the majority within this store. It felt good or reassuring, for me, to be in there...I can't really explain why. The word is out. This place is busy. I hope it continues to do well.

This is a new medium-sized grocery store specializing in south asian and middle eastern brands, warehouse-style, that also has extensive fresh produce and an in-house halal butcher. This is a great addition to the local grocery scene, which is sorely in need of mid-sized independents to counter the competitive sameness of the big three chains operating in the area. Another upgrade: this space used to be the Office Depot (or was it an Office Max? already the memory is fading.) A friend tipped me off after this opened to the fact they have a nice variety of produce priced competitively. Indeed, everything here in produce is fresher and cheaper than is average for the neighboring Hannaford's. There's an extensive array of Indian, levantine, and south asian breads, although most of them have been shipped from a distance. There's lots of vegetables exotic to this area (Dudhi, chinese eggplants, whole turmeric root in bulk, et alia) and a reasonable although not huge variety of more conventional North American veggies. (The lettuce alas is too heavily represented by iceberg. Can't win 'em all.) I was particularly pleased to find fresh turnip and mustard greens. There's also a dairy row with a gazillion brands of whole milk yogurt from all over (some I wonder how they can get it here fresh) but very few of other styles or fat content. The types of food you would expect from the name of the place (labneh, paneer, ghee) are also available. There's a great tea section -- not high end but whole varieties, cheaper than at the specialty tea stores in the area. They are not generally identified, though, by varietal, but by brand, so I have a steep learning curve here; what was labeled as "black" was certainly an Indian or Sri Lankan tea but was of an unfamiliar mix of assam. The other distinctive feature here is the specialty butcher. We are sticking mostly vegetarian these days so I don't have any first hand accounts of the quality of the meat, but it's now the go-to place for fresh lamb and goat (!) in Albany. (I love goat. It is a very underrated meat. Just wish I still ate meat.) In addition to the fresh individual pieces (the butchers are behind a glass wall, you can see them work) they have posted offers to butcher whole lambs or goats. It's posted as Halal. Now the bulk of this store is more daunting. Row after row of dry and canned goods, stacked to the rafters like a Costco. It's difficult to navigate these aisles: some items of the same type but different brands are in completely different aisles. There's a rough regional organization in some aisles (Nepalese food! wow) but I found it inconsistent and hard to follow on my first visit. This is definitely the kind of store where you'd have to go back a dozen times to find specific things. I could find a half dozen varieties of rice in 40 pound sacks but had difficulty locating a one pound bag. It's that kind of conundrum. For now, the stock is all fresh, but I would exercise some caution if you're reading this a few years after this review was written. They seem to have bought in bulk way over what any grocery store would, and my previous experience with specialty grocery stores is sometimes they leave the cans on the shelves forever, and you don't quite know what you're getting, particularly imports from countries that have different labeling laws. It's just...an enormous pile of stock on the floor. I'm not ready to use this as a replacement for a general grocery run, but I'll be happy to keep trying the produce, and we'll see if the quality continues to hold after the growing season is over. For now, a qualified and optimistic four stars.

This place is unbelievable. The produce section alone is intense! But the rest of the store is just as impressive. It's IMMACULATE and packed with international (Indian, Asian, Afghan, African....!!) treats, groceries, spices and more. Prices are EXTREMELY reasonable. Example? I found "cotton candy grapes" for a fraction of the price vs. my local grocery store. It took a lot of self control to not load my cart up with all the desserts, breads and sweets that I spied. The rice selection is incredible. I'm impressed. And I'll be back!

One of the largest grocery stores in the capital district.  if you haven't been here make sure you make a trip. Now this store is competi g with local large supermarkets and I already see traffic building up. The quality of produce and freshness have declined since they opened and thereby me rating them a 4. DONT FORGET TO TRY THE SUGARCANE JUICE. SAVES ME FROM A TRIP TO NJ!

Bottom Line Up Front (BLUF) An amazing market with a huge variety of high quality products at very affordable prices. Ethnic groceries from around the world line the shelves of this new location. With other locations throughout Connecticut and Massachusetts this is the first New York store to open. What and amazing selection of fruits and vegetables, some I've never seen before! Groceries are stocked on shelves that seem to go 8ft high and everything is very clean and organized. There is a Zabiha Halal Meat section and butcher shop. Several aisles of frozen food, and a section of cookware. India Market is a destination market for shoppers looking to experience a huge quantity of diverse foods at reasonable prices. of choice for quality products and pleasant shopping experience. I took a ton of pictures while I was there which speak for themselves. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I recommend you check out this beautiful, clean, and organized store for that special item you've been looking to try.

Would've been better based on the pricing for the herbs and vegetables. However, big miss when I ordered ribeye and got anything but that

The veg samosas taste amazing! A little spicy with peas and potatoes. There's a reason they make so many trays of them!

We've bought…read morechocolates for ourselves, holidays, and gifts, and visiting Krause's has always been a tradition whenever I returned to New York after living in Florida. In fact, it was the very first stop my husband and I made because I couldn't wait to enjoy my favorite chocolates again. Unfortunately, this visit was incredibly disappointing. The first thing I noticed was the new logo and packaging. While I know businesses evolve, the new design loses the classic, elegant feel that made Krause's so special and instead looks much more generic. More importantly, the chocolates themselves are not the same. Many of the pieces are noticeably smaller than they used to be, and the chocolate tastes different. Several pieces even had bloom, which affected both their appearance and texture. I purchased a variety of chocolates, including individual pieces from the display case, chocolate bars, and peppermint patties, and every product seemed to reflect a decline in quality. To make matters worse, many of my longtime favorite pieces were no longer available. I've happily recommended Krause's for years because it consistently offered some of the best homemade chocolates in the Capital Region. This time, however, I left feeling disappointed and honestly saddened. I truly hope the owners will consider returning to the quality, recipes, and traditions that built Krause's outstanding reputation, because many longtime customers remember how exceptional their chocolates used to be.

I also like their hot food section. Picked up some meatloaf and it is fantastic especially for the price. The sushi is fresh and almost as good as the restaurants. The layout is nice and easy to find things. The produce section is extensive and probably the closest that comes to HEB. Depending in what I need this is a great place. And there are more in the area since they took over all the closed ShopRite stores.

I get the idea that reducing the number of other grocery stores competing with you in an area…read moretheoretically improves your business. So it was not surprising to me that Price Chopper/Market 32 grabbed the defunct Shop Rites in the area. But having so many in one area takes away from all of them. I've got 2 Market 32's competing for my business on Western Avenue - neither one is fully staffed as it is. This new Market 32 at 1730 Central Avenue is competing with a nearby Price Chopper at 1892 Central Avenue. I'd be willing to bet these stores consolidate into one at some point in the near future. Sorry, having all these stores is not the way to get my business. Here's some things to consider addressing if you want that: - None of these stores have "baskets for easy shopping," only carts. If I only want a few items, I'd like a basket, not a cart. - Competitive prices - the few loss leaders here were okay and good bargains, otherwise not. - How about low-sodium deli product options, like some other local grocery store chains provide? - Label the produce - Absolutely nothing except lettuce was labeled in any way in the greens section. I hope you can tell chard, collards, and kale apart. There were no signs under the products, and at least the chard had no tags on them identifying them by item or 4-digit code. More on that below. - Have someone at the seafood counter. By the way, the salmon fillets were dry and cracked. - Have bagels that actually look like bagels, not mis-shapen, flat, and burnt excuses for bagels. Some of them looked more like the 5 pound weights I put on my barbell. For a grocery store chain that has been known for good quality bagels, these were abysmal. - Have user-friendly checkout kiosks. These get upset if you put your empty grocery bag on the counter before scanning items. For items you need to look up, instead of getting a convenient keypad, you get a list of 6 to 8 likely items. If what you have isn't on the list, you MIGHT get to a digital keypad to enter words or a code. Now about that chard: The scanner/electric eye did not recognize the item, so I got a pop-up list of things like spinach and kale, but no chard. When I tapped on the button for not listed, I got a "please wait" message, and then nothing happened. I eventually had to call for an attendant (who had to serve 2 people ahead of me, by the way), who had to use an authorized bypass to bring up a greens menu which actually included chard. This was not a good experience at all. There's several other Market 32s in the area I'd rather visit. Honestly, though, I'd actually drive the 45 minutes to the next closest Shop Rite than to go back to this store Shop-Rite-Turned-Market-32.
