It is a beautiful farm filled with trees, plants, succulents... anything you need for your flower/plant needs. But it is a secret gem that hides the most amazing sandwich shop in the area. It is filled with fresh bread, baked goods and most amazing pies, fresh fruit and vegetables. But all of it hides this amazing sandwich shop that has one of the best Philly Cheese Steaks. It is gooey with melted cheese and if you ask for chopped hot peppers... you can get the perfect blend of banana peppers and jalapeño peppers to get the kick! You don't want to miss this store if you are in the area! We stayed in a nearby Airbnb tiny home. You can't beat the kind attentive service and the care by which they make every sandwich. Everything is so fresh and well made! No indoor seating... so be ready for the heat if you plan to eat here.

I was surprised to see that several carried candies and grocery store merchandise. And the prices, well.. don't even get me started. There were some other nice markets, but I found Hoover's in showcasing Lancaster's meats, dairy, pickles, sauces, jams, desserts, not to mention all of their glorious produce (reasonably priced), a for sale bin and beautiful flowers. Right now, it's pumpkin time and boy, does Hoover's have many pumpkins to choose from, and CHEAP. I bought seven tomatoes (made sauce) for $3.00. They were in that "clearance" bin.

The items for sale include home made goods, fresh produce, meats, jams, toiletries, furniture, souvenirs, electronic gadgets and items you didn't know you needed (wanted). The layout of the grounds are listed on the website. I like parking by building six. Most of my "wish list" vendors were clustered in or near the building. It is easier to keep track of where we parked too. Allow extra time to carefully drive around the area. Shoppers are focused on moving to their destination and not always paying attention to safely walking. Wear comfortable shoes. You will be walking on hard floors inside the buildings and uneven terrain outside (gravel, grass, dirt). Bring several shopping bags. Not all of the sellers take credit cards. Cash is preferred. Bring small bills. Some businesses will negotiate prices if you are buying several items. Food is everywhere. Many places allow sampling. The home made cheeses are incredible. The popular stations are going to have a line. The lines move quickly. Pretzels are the reason we chose to visit. I enjoyed watching the entire creating process. Bring zip lock bags. Those wax bags get soggy after walking around. Make sure you eat one after it was made to savor the flavor. Try mustard and cheese dip to get the full pretzel experience. There are tables throughout the property. The donuts are magazine worthy. We got a half dozen ($9 ish dollars). You might want to bring hand wipes to use after enjoying a yummy sweet treat. Pay attention to where you parked. There is a good chance you will need to unload bags in your car and start the shopping process over. Hubby had a belt measured and made for him. It was interesting to watch the holes being put in. There were dozens of styles and varied materials. This was a fun (and exhausting) experience. I love Avon purchases in person where I am walking away with products in hand and not waiting for a delivery. Lapp ice cream is a must. There isn't a limit on sampling. There is something for everyone. Since we had lots of activities planned for the weekend, I researched the stores and layout of the area to make the best of my time. The items inside a building or store are more quality than some of the products spread out on tables outside. It is also convenient sitting inside to grab a bite. I hope to return sometime.

There was a lot of local items for sale, from produce to meats to dairy and baked goods. We got Whoopie pies (that were gone before we left the parking lot they were so good!), and a cheddar bacon dip to snack on for the road! We also got jams, butters, jerkies and a cookbook to recreate some of the things we tried or saw in store. The ladies working were kind and helpful. They were able to answer any questions we had and were prompt in service. Overall this market was a great find, I would highly recommend coming by if you are in the area!

Yesterday we went raspberry picking at the Shenk's Berry Farm in Lititz, PA. I love this small…read morefarm, and have been coming here for my berries for almost 10 years. It is the very good quality and taste of berries I enjoyed as well as personal touch by the owner of the farm. They still have some strawberry left, it is sweet and very fragrant, it is almost like in a famouse Swedish movie " Strawberry Patch", also in the movie is a wild strawberry. We enjoyed our red and black raspberries which are abundant and delicious this year. If you are a bluberry fan, you should come next week for the delicious treat! Bluberry is almost ready; sweat and sour, big and appetizing. The rain did not spoil our experience and a beautiful rainbow was like a prize we received from God. Come to Lititz to enjoy the farm and plenty of wonderful berries. I also collected some berry leaves to make my teas.

In one of my several Lancaster PA food blogs, I asked other foodies where they went for their Amish…read morebarbecue (normally held on Fridays and Saturdays, starting in May and going till Sept.). For those who don't live in Lancaster, PA; it's a "thing" and a good "thing" at that. There was an overwhelming response for Kissel Hill and so, that's where I vowed to be, on a Saturday, arriving at around 11:15. The barbecue masses, showed up at 10am. I figured this must have been the case, because when I arrived, there were no more leg/thigh combos, grilled sliced potatoes - sold out, except for one, which we snagged (the last potato) and grilled carrots - gone. If you plan on going to an Amish barbecue stand, get there EARLY. The consensus (among myself & hubby), potato - under cooked, chicken lacked essential flavors derived from smoke and brining, meat wasn't as tender as was expected, completely out of napkins and forks?? Oh crap! Come on Kissel, I know this isn't your first rodeo. Some Amish bbq stands include whoopie pies, this was not one of them. Sadly, even the roll was not up to par; it was stale. Oh man. No worries, Lancaster County has lots of contenders out there and I aim to try all of them. There is small adjoining market with a ton of apples, onions, potatoes, pie filling, pickles, noodles, baked goods, flowers, dairy items and more.
