The shelves were empty on Friday and they are still empty, today MOTHER"S DAY. Awful.

What a time. We're easily spending $300-$500 on groceries per month, even more if you have multiple people in your household. Aldi, a discounted supermarket chain, provides some cushioning with their outrageously low prices. The last time I shopped, I walked out with 3 full bags that cost me around $50-$60. The only downside is that they have very limited products and variety. It's a small store that carries few brands. I wouldn't call this your one-stop shop for groceries, but you can get some fruits, veggies, milk, bread, eggs, and poultry here. This Hackensack location does a decent job of keeping the store clean and organized. Inventory is usually well stocked. For the most part, the produce is fresh and good quality. The cashiers are friendly and they have self-checkout lanes. Overall, it's worth a shot browsing around. I keep Aldi in my rotation for my grocery needs. read more

Poppedin here to grab a few cheap sale items like a toy and some chicken - like Shoprite, but far fewer SKUs and more space in the aisles, you can get some good deals on items, mostly generic or off-main market brands but a few things like party-sized Oreos available. Pricing is comparable to Shoprite on the meat, and the carts are put a quarter in, and get it back after you put the cart back (I like that idea to help keep cart management effective). Limited inventory so they do sell out on things and won't get more until the next day or week depending on the store. read more

Cashier was lovely and apologized when I told him about a nasty worker with whom I had an altercation - that didn't need to be anything. He was stocking - we are used to that at any ALDi's in the morning hours. I slipped by without disturbing him and he lectured me that I should excuse myself. There's different ways to do something - in a busy store sometimes it's best to slip by. Rude person that didn't see I was trying to not disturb him as his back was turned and loading a low rack. Feels bad when you do notice and think you're being thoughtful. NOT what I come here for: a lecture and bad vibes on a Saturday morning with a packed store. read more

A store that I started frequenting this year (2020) after some my colleagues have been raving about how affordable everything is at Aldi. I definitely found some favorite things, especially in the frozen section - assortment of seafood is great for pasta, mussels in garlic sauce is wonderful in it's own or throw in some pasta and voila ^^ Aldi also has organic items at much cheaper price. The cashier is extremely FAST !!!!! But, s/he only scans the price. There is nobody to bag your goods. They all go back into your cart. Bring your own grocery bag (or buy Aldi reusable bags). Have a quarter ready for the cart. The policy is self-returning cart. Very iconic of Aldi- though this is quite common in many stores in Korea. read more

DO NOT SHOP HERE !! THE MANAGER AND STAFF PROFILE YOU AND HARASS YOU . I was shopping with my baby when i noticed an employee following me around the store . While at self checkout i noticed him standing next to me. I asked him what seems to be the problem, he asked me what was in my bag under my stroller. I told him it was from a previous store and showed him that ALDI does NOT sell those products. He then proceeded to go into the basket of my stroller and looked through my tied bag . Assuming i stoled something when at no Moment he witnessed me doing such a thing . I was embarrassed infront of the entire store for nothing. I was treated as a thief. read more

Great customer service. I recently left behind my walking cane at the Hackensack, NJ store. However, unable to reach the store directly, I contacted customer service central., and explained my problem to her, also unable to reach the store directly, she contacted the District manager with my problem. Within a day or two , I got a call from the District manager that my cane was found and that I could pick it up at my convenience. I spend most of my food dollars at Costco Wholesale, Whole Foods Market and ShopRite, so even though the Aldi in Hackensack is only a few blocks from my home, I rarely shop there. The store is SMALL, and the selection is limited, but prices seem reasonable. The limited selection goes for organic products, too. Today, I drove over to pick up jars of organic salsa and a small bag of organic rice after my wife said she was running out of the latter. Aldi is German owned, and many items on the shelves are produced by Aldi, including organic items like salsa and rice sold under the Simply Nature label. This supermarket doesn't use plastic bags, the cashiers are seated and they place your items in a shopping cart, which you move to a counter near the front windows to pack your purchases in your own reusable bags or ones bought from Aldi. Another quirk is that you won't find small shopping baskets to carry, only shopping carts, but there is no prohibition against placing the items you want in the reusable bag you bring with you. If you don't empty the bag after you place it on the conveyor belt, the cashier will, and make sure it is empty before he or she rings you up. read more

Every time I come to this location 492 Main St, Hackensack, NJ 07601, I dread the lines. Once again, it is 10:14am and there are only one cashier person at register, and there are 8-10 people on line before me. Lots of times, I just put items right back where I am standing and just leave, with out buying items I picked. What would be nice if there were more workers at registers, a self check out line for customers to scan their own items. Lidl does this, and I breeze through their lines. They have long lines, but the self check out line, has 4 to 5 machines, and it makes it easier to purchase items. Please fix this issue you have. More registers open and self check out cash registers needed. read more

Very reasonable prices from some of the staple items so I go pretty often. Most items are Brands you've probably never heard of which is maybe why they're cheaper but most things I've purchased have been just fine. This afternoon, however, encountered some pretty horrible customer service. Paid for my items and said thank you but got a weird stare from the cashier- Isaiah. Thought maybe he didn't hear so I said thank you again. Same weird stare. So I said "great customer service, no you're welcome" and he becomes more rude and condescending. Like l "oh didn't know it meant so much to you?" Wait what?! You $&#%* idiot! There was a woman who also worked there who seemed to be possibly a supervisor but she just stood by and watched. As I was returning my cart an elderly man approached me and said "you know I said thank you and I got the same thing". He said "I've lived in the area for 28 years and never experienced this" I guess you get what you pay for- including customer service. Shop-rite would never! Anyhow carry on "Isaiah from Aldi". Keep your miserable attitude to yourself. If you don't like dealing with people get a job behind the scenes maybe because -news flash- we don't like dealing with you either. In short go if you want to save a few bucks on some no name items (which I don't mind) but don't expect decent customer service. read more

I live in the area and was looking around for a new stomping ground for fresh produce and good prices for groceries in general. Since there's no Lidl in the are, I figured I'd give Aldi a try. Note: if you need a cart, be ready and have a quarter in hand. You insert the quarter and when you're done, put the cart back and get your money. The inside of the store was really a mess. It was not stocked. It was dirty and really unkempt. It was really a shock as I've not seen a grocery store so unsightly. It almost made me want to turn back around and just walk out but I kept on. The prices are really good and what little produce they did have was on the fresher side of things. Their prices on daily groceries (mostly snacks and breakfast things) are cheaper than I've found in most stores. Although the price IS right, I doubt I'd be back again. Grocery shopping is usually a relaxing experience for me but the mess in the store just gave me anxiety. Plus the employees in the check out are not friendly and you can outwardly tell they don't care about the customers and you're just bothering them. read more

Once you get used to Aldi's they have great prices and you can shop much more quickly then other grocery stores. Yea, there's almost always a line, but the bring up more checkers and it moves quickly. No bags or bagging. So what...you can do that yourself. Not as much selection. Aldi was originally described to me as a discount store. It is that, and way more. My expectations were low to middle when I went there and they have changed considerably. They don't get high marks for produce except prepackaged salad. They are consistently better than Shop-Rite or Target. The selection of coffee's is on the level of Fairway or Whole Food--except it is preground and packaged. They must have a huge turnover, because it is always fresh and I visit a different country every week. Chicken and beef has been consistently good, frozen selection limited but adequate. Dairy and household limited, but I don't need 25 varities of frozen vegetables or detergent. The check-out system is efficient and staff polite read more

this is my 4th aldi ive been to, and by far my favorite. love how its set up, its VERY clean. the lines move the fastest here and it doesnt smell like the others (2 of the aldis ive been too smelled dank and have crappy lighting). they also seems to have more carts than the other 2 that are closer to my house. i will gladly go out of my way to start coming to this location. read more

I like this store but since October the store has no shopping carts. The empty shelf situation has gotten worse also. How can you shop in a supermarket without one? I have complained to corporate at lest six times. Each time they say it will be handled. So far nothing. I have now pushed my shopping toward prime, peapod and target. It's not worth scrounging around for a cart, it's ridiculous. The Aldi district manager needs to get there act together and do their job. Finally got shopping carts here. 3.5 stars. I was so excited when I saw this place was opening by my job. This place is great for end of the world stuff or care packages to people serving overseas.....lots of packaged goods at great prices. The bad: no deli, not much meat and seafood (all packaged or frozen), and frozen veggies are very limited. Also you need a quarter to use the shopping carts, but you get it back when you return it. My HUGE issue was that they didn't have a place to return them in the lot. You had to go back to the store to return the cart. I have MS and have a lot of issues walking, so this really annoyed me and by the time I was walking back from returning my cart, my legs were jello and I almost fell twice. There are 5 handicapped spots out front, but they were taken when I got there and even then, you had to walk another 50 feet from the handicapped spots to put the cart back, then walk back to your car another 50 feet. Anyway, I went with a coupon for $10 off a $40 purchase, but all I ended up with was a ton of snacks and packaged goods (2 cans of corned beef hash, 2 Indian sauces, a BBQ sauce, 2 bags of tortilla chips, some dark chocolate, a loaf of bread, a can of Chipotle peppers, taco shells, etc). I do have to say, the quality of their brand stuff is very good. Most of it is pretty on point with name brand stuff. The produce was okay, but you're much better off going to a farmer's market or even ShopRite. All in all it's like grocery shopping at Target with lower prices. Convenient, but not a place to go for all your shopping needs, especially fresh needs. Oh and BTW: you must bring your own shopping bags. They do sell reusable ones, so kudos for going green. read more

The worst customer service. There were tons of people on line and only 2 out 5 registers open. They didn't look under staffed at all. So everyone on line was confused. My cashier barely gave me a chance to bag my food. He was throwing it in a cart. I was being very polite considering. Then when I asked how much my total was he gave me attitude and told me he forgot.... what???? I wasn't expecting that type of demeanor coming from a simple question. I told him I didn't appreciate his attitude. He told me he wasn't giving me attitude because he has a smile on his face... he was literally spitting words at me while attempting to keep a fake smile on his face. It was actually hilarious. As the transaction is ending i barely bagged my food when he starts throwing the persons behind me food in the cart. The customer behind me told him to calm down. Good selection of packaged food. The store is very small and you do find some great buys. Produce was just okay. You are better off at the farmers market. I like the easy flow of the store. My only complaint is that the 3 times I visited this location, the customer service was horrible. The first time I was given an attitude by the cashier because I asked her if I can use the shopping cart in the corner that no one was using. Her response to me was " yeah, you can but only if you pay a quarter first" in a very annoyed and sarcastic tone. The second time the cashier made no eye contact and didn't even say hello or thanked me. Everything seems rushed. I guess it's not a very pleasant place to work. If the customer service would have been better I would have rated 4 stars. I will update my review once I give it one last try in a month or so. read more

Great prices. Produce is usually fresh. Worst customer service ever including one of the actual managers that work there. Very nasty people with bad attitudes that hate their job. During one of my first shopping encounters my husband and I left the groceries on a conveyor belt and walked out due to getting screamed at by a manager over taking a cart that was empty. She screamed and I mean screamed in front of the whole store that we need to get one from outside and use a quarter and then in a nasty voice asked "Do you even have a quarter?" It was one of our first times there and we were in a rush and weren't thinking that deep into it. It was a real turn off so my husband yelled back "No need to scream we are not that stupid" and then took all the groceries placed them on the belt and we just walked out. Anyhow went back a few months later and of course encountered the nastiest cashiers so now we just assume it's a norm for Aldi. So when shopping just keep in mind it's for the savings not customer service. Sitting down at a cash register to only ring up, not bag and place items back into a cart is a difficult task so it comes with an attitude. read more

I have been shopping here since it opened!!!! I am there at least 3 to 4 days a week. The prices are right!! If you want to shop in STYLE, THEN THIS IS NOT THE STORE FOR YOU!!!! The EMPLOYEES at this store are absolutely outstanding. If you ask where something is they will walk you right to the product... The checkout people are also very pleasant. I shop the Hackensack Store . Great place especially if your having get togethers for snacks, deserts and drinks. Veggies and fruit , great prices.
