I have lived in Hackensack since 2003. for some reason I never shopped here. my students parents were raving about it. 2 weeks ago I went. this store blew my mind! So MANY CHOICES! SO fresh! I had a cart full. I went to check out and it was $65 !!!! I almost fell over. It would have easily been over $150 at shoprite. the veggies and fruit were so fresh most lasted for almost 2 weeks!! (garlic, ginger, papers, cabbage, apples etc!!!!). Their store grade Tropicana OJ, hummus, and other packages food items were quite pricey compared to chain super markets for the exact same things, however. Although I have no complaints about products or prices. I have a big issue with parking spots close to the entrance with cones after. 10am. I suffer from asthma and heat waves are not good for people like me; but when you need to go to buy food, you got to go. I asked for the manager and was told that he was on vacation and when the person in charge arrived (late) I spoke to her. She mentioned that they had those for deliveries. I told her it was after 10am. She just listened completely stoic and said nothing. As I turned to leave in disbelief, she started laughing at me. I turned and saw another worker laughing. This extends to their other food items which are hard to find even at H-mart and 99 Ranch Market (hello, noodle section). There's also a fresh seafood area. If you do visit, be sure to stop by Honey Nut in the back. Their mochi donuts are wild and there are always a ton of unsupervised samples for anyone to try without judgement. I'm not sure what's up with the bad reviews. I can only speak for the produce, which they have a huge selection of. If there is some random produce item you can't find in a regular supermarket, you will probably find it here. Yes, some of it might be hit or miss, but it's so cheap! I would say it's about 30-50% off supermarket prices. But for a lot of the items, you have to buy more than one of in order to get the "sale price", and that's how they get you to spend more money. The vegetables are pretty fresh and last throughout the week (sometimes longer) and I have never had an issue with them. It's really the fruits you have to watch out for. Some of them are on the verge of going bad but the thing is - you can't really tell - until you see some mold on it a few days after it's been sitting in your fridge. That being said, if you are buying fruits (especially berries or grapes), you need to eat them within one or two days. The seafood and meat sections look okay but a little dingy. I haven't bought anything from there for this reason. I saw a few great bundle deals for meat, which was unbelievably cheap. So cheap, that's it's suspect, which is why I'm iffy. They also have regular grocery items like spices, snacks, a deli, household items, cleaning, etc. Some things are just as cheap as the produce, but some are not. But if you don't want to make multiple stops (especially during Covid), this place is a great one stop shop. However, the parking lot can be a bit of a hot mess sometimes. If you can find street parking, you're better off doing that! read more

My family has been going here for as long as I can remember. This past weekend I went for the first time since they were newly renovated. The space is much bigger now but it's still a bit dirty/industrial. I don't mind though. Usually their prices are fair and they sell some other cultural items you wouldn't find at Shop-Rite or other typical supermarket chains. They have a deli counter, butcher, fish market, and florist too. They're not always cheap though, so you gotta know the typical price of what you're buying. The parking lot can get pretty crazy. Bought three items from the produce section. 3 lbs. bag of small yellow potatoes, they all had sprouts, threw them out, green zucchini, sliced it and there was yellowing, threw them out, green beans, dried out and threw them out too! I absolutely love it here. The produce is fresh and very inexpensive. I've gone to other farmers markets where produce is inexpensive but not fresh or second and third rate. Not here! Bonus is that the staff is friendly and helpful, even as busy as it gets sometimes I've never encountered a rude worker. I've been making fruit and veggie smoothies and I'm beginning to come here more frequently. They even have exotic fruit and vegetables that you might not find at the big chain supermarkets! Some of the best produce around, and at fantastic prices! I also really love their seafood counter. Have never bought from the butcher counter but plan to try it some time. The staff is all very friendly and helpful as well! The only reason I removed a star is because they're very particular about certain items being bought at the "meat" area of the store vs the rest, and it's not always as clear as they think it is. It feels a bit grimey, but their prices on produce are ridiculously cheap. Growing up, I never understood why my mom used to go to different grocery stores for different things. But now that I have to buy my own groceries and make my own food, I get that buying vegetables at Giant is a helluva lot cheaper than buying it at a major chain grocery store. They've recently expanded, I guess the bought the place next door. The meat and fish market took over the new area, but the produce section is still grimey, they probably should have given the whole place a renovation since they were expanding anyway. If you're lucky enough to be in the vicinity of this store then you must check it out. I believe it's actually part of a chain of "Farmers Market" vegetable stores. They also have a meat section, fish, canned and jarred goods, spices, baked goods and dairy items. Mainly they have a large selection of fruits and vegetables at super low prices. It's really hard to find such low prices at supermarkets and other stores. Mostly the vegetables are very fresh and are of great quality. No matter what, if you are not rich and you love fruits and vegetables then you must visit this place because you will definitely save a lot of money and find all the vegetables you might want. This place is similar to the Farmers Market on New Bridge Road in Bergenfield, although I'm pretty sure they are not related. They are both similar in selection and price. The only thing I don't like about it so much is that there are two levels and you need to go down to check out. They also put some vegetables outside the back entrance, so it's not the best layout, but considering the money you save and the selection this is a minor issue. I understand the place was recently renovated but I haven't been there since the renovation. Sounds great because it was getting pretty old and dirty over the years and I figured it needed a renovation soon! These vegetable stores are a blessing to the areas they serve because without them it's hard to find quality natural foods at affordable prices. This review is really for the Fish Market inside the store. I've been going to this market for years, long before the renovation when they only had fruits and vegetables. The old Asian guy in the fish market is rude as can be and likely the owner. Even with a mask on you can see how disgruntled he is. He always has an attitude and not helpful at all. God forbid if you ask more than one question! And trust there isn't a language barrier and you can find that out by hearing how rude he is. There's also another guy, looks Hispanic who is also unhappy but he has good days. Maybe it's because they travel early to get fish? Well that's not my concern as a paying customer. Despite the proximity of Cotsco, Total Wine, and dozens of malls in the area, Giant is for sure one of my favorite places to shop in northern NJ. Every time I come here, I load up a giant cart or basket full of fresh produce, and I am always sticker shocked in the BEST WAY when I see how diminutive my receipt total is. Giant stocks all the standard produce you're looking for, with a seasonal focus and occasional smattering of something more exotic. Yesterday, I spotted mangosteens (these were unfortunately outrageously expensive at 2 for $4), quenepa, dragon fruit, rambutan, and lychees, in addition to the bounty of summer fruits and vegetable on deep sale. We're talking 5 pints of blueberries for $5! Broccoli rabe for 99¢ a pound! All the leafy greens and grilling vegetables and NJ ripe tomatoes you could ever want! Yes, this stuff isn't organic -- but it's usually fresh and delicious. Some weird things that I've found here: Vosges chocolates for $5 a bar (huge discount), Bonne Maman preserves for $3/jar (cheap!), and McClure's pickles for $4/jar (ditto)... they also usually have a good selection of Kinder chocolates from Germany. So don't forget to hunt around for the dry goods, too. I don't usually get meat or fish here but I've noticed that it's very competitively priced. And, the cashiers are always lightning fast and deadly accurate. I love Giant! read more

This place is a little strange for me to assess bc it's a hodgepodge of a few store ideas. They are named "farmers market" and during the day they have a lot of their produce outside. They have a really wide veriety of all kinds of fruit and veggies. I was surprised when I saw 6 different types of mushrooms alone. The price is very fair also, however, I feel as though it might be due to the fact that none of their produce is fresh. Everything looks about a day or two before rotting. Specifically the zucchini, strawberries, cherries, and cucumbers. Another thing is that they sell high end organic products like avocado oil, hemp seed, rolled oats etc next to conventional processed yogurts and cheese so I half get the impression that they're kind of like a Trader Joe's but throw in items for the average consumer. Then in the back they'll have a huge display of several types of honey, jams, and tea all organic or non gmo right after bodega candles and Chinese slippers. Lol So I can't tell whether or not it's a farmers market bc they don't make everything from local farms. It's not a bodega bc they sell high end brands I see in Trader Joe's or Whole Foods. And they're not completely organic or following any guidelines of anti-big food or factory farms bc they have those brands inside as well. So if someone can make sense of this place for me, please, fill me in. I'll still shop here but w a sharper eye. My typical cart includes broccoli, kale, mushrooms, tofu, basil or cilantro, eggplant, lemons, avocado, potatoes or yams, peppers.... all that for $35 or less. Sometimes that total even includes asparagus and some fruit. Amazing. I usually go toward closing time or early in the morning to avoid the huge crowds. It's frustrating when it's crowded, but I've never seen anyone be rude...we all just wait and move when there's an opening. I suggest using a hand basket, which is by the flowers/downstairs entrance.
