I will admit I was more than a little skeptical about this place when I heard that you have to rent a cart, bring your bags or use their free boxes, and deal with long lines, but I have seen the light and it is ALDI! My anxiety over renting the cart was short lived when I realized it was just a quarter you insert into the cart and get it back once you return it. Also, I typically bring my own bags when grocery shopping anyway, so the lack of bags wasn't an issue and the long lines move quickly. You can find most everything you need here: dry goods, fresh produce, meat, dairy, bread, frozen food, and wine. Yes, you read that correctly: WINE! They have wine as low as $2.99 and it gets the job done. Trust me, I've tried mid-priced wines from liquor stores that were actually terrible and left me with headaches to spare. You might also notice similarities between ALDI brand products and your favorite brands because they use the same manufacturers as nearly every other store that private labels and the quality is pretty spot on -- except the salsa. I'm not a fan of the salsa, chips, or candy. Their junk food mostly sucks, which is a good thing in my opinion. Prices are very reasonable and they recently announced they will be going organic and banning pesticides in 2017. This is a pretty big deal, especially considering they already carry quite a few organic products, as well as an entire gluten-free line, and hormone/antibiotic- free meat. Overall, this place is great for picking up your basic food needs without paying ridiculous prices. Save your speciality item list (vegetarian/ faux meat products, less common spices, etc.) for a quick trip into another store and save yourself a good chunk of money by shopping ALDI. read more

This store is so filthy. I could not believe how dirty the floors and vegetables bins were. It appears as though a huge thing of zucchini had been smashed all over the floor in the front. Each floor on each isle was sticky ( enough to get on my shoes) and so dirty with trash also on the floors. I will never shop this location again and it's a shame because it used to be my favorite location. read more

I think Aldi for sure has the best and lowest prices in Memphis. The produce is great, meats, cheeses and breads are all good and truthfully I was completely shocked by the low prices and the selections are perfect. I shop at the Summer location its always clean, well stocked, friendly shoppers and staff. Easy to get in and out. I can't believe its taken me so long to find out how great Aldi's is, I still shop at Fresh Market for floral and I don't have go to Kroger ever anymore. Which thrills me! Christie M. read more

I like saving money, therefore I like Aldi. It is a no frills shopping experience, and you have to sack your own stuff, but the prices are just so good. I typically save about $20 to $30 off my average grocery bill when I shop here instead of Kroger or Schnuuks. It's small, and there isn't a ton of selection in the meat and produce department, but they do have all the basics. I am usually surprised that I can get most of what I need here. You have to put a quarter in to get a shopping cart, then you get the quarter back when you return it. Also, you have to bring your own sacks. You can buy them there for a few cents if you forget, and them reuse them for the next time. read more

I am a practical guy, and ALDI is a practical store. You start with "renting" a cart for a quarter, which is returned when you replace the cart. You bring your own bags or buy theirs, and you definitely sack your own groceries. Value is good across the board, but don't expect to find the item you loved last week this week. We like their snack crackers. There's a fairly good selection of table cheeses. My wife always gets inexpensive cream cheese there for her cheese cakes. If you ever find the mussels in the frozen foods section, try them. Produce is fresh, of good quality and inexpensive. Don't expect the selection you find in a supermarket, but check out ALDI and you will be a fan. One last note: Stock is different in different stores, so try out a few. read more

The first reviewer here has obviously never been to an Aldi in their life. Aldi is my favorite grocery store, hands down. The new location on Summer (several months old by now) is clean, spacious, and well managed. The only reason I go to Kroger now is for the gas points, and a few specialty items. Aldi brands of sparkling water, diapers, cauliflower pizza, and cat foods are my go-tos and I'll wait for them to get in stock before buying another brand if possible. read more

The shelves were bare and devoid of most produce. They are either grossly understaffed or not paying attention to the shape this store is in. Omg, how have I not reviewed Aldi before. And why are so many people still shopping at Kroger? Ok so first off I want to point out that the owners of Aldi are cousins to the owners of Trader Joes, and they're cousins that get along and share distribution channels so take that all you bring trader joes to memphis people, this is your best option for now. And yes, I have seen the same type of stuff at both stores. So most people are turned off that everything is "off brand". Guess what folks, Aldi is not in the business of farming, food packaging or anything else - they are in the business of selling food, which they get from the beloved name brand producers who have a 2nd line of packaging that gets the Aldi name. Btw, Aldi isn't even attempting to be discreet about the brand you are really buying if you look at what they call their stuff. The business model of Aldi is to keep costs low and pass that savings onto us the consumer. Sweet! It starts off when you need a quarter to get a shopping buggy. Don't worry, you get it back. The buggys are locked together - put a quarter in to unlock one, return it where it belongs and get your quarter back. I just keep a quarter in my car. So you go in and you have to follow the "path", which starts off with dry good (this would be all the stuff in the center of a traditional store). Some people get irritated you have to go through the "junk food aisle", if you can't handle this then you're not really a dedicated health nut now are you? Anyway, all the groceries are on pallets and in their boxes, no stocking reduces costs. If you see an empty box grab it, you'll need it to pack your groceries up. My favorite part is the lack of variety. There is one size and type of flour, sugar, seasonings and pretty much anything they sell. No decisions to make, either you want it or not and move on. Along the back wall is the refrigerated dairy. There's another aisle of dry goods, a half aisle of household items, a half aisle of random seasonal goods they got a deal on, a top sliding freezer section and standing freezers against the wall opposite to the entrance. You pay for bags, bring your own or use the empty boxes for free. Don't be alarmed at the long lines because the checkers scan super fast! There's a counter to bag / box your stuff before you leave. You'll save at least 1/3 off your traditional grocery store bill depending upon what you buy. Plus, it takes way less time. Make your list and shop Aldi first. They don't carry everything but you can always swing by krogers and hit up the express check our lane with your one special item on the way home. read more

We visited the store today before 6pm. Shelves are empty. The bread department, produce and meat shelves are empty. When asked the staff to get us the stuff they responded that they are not allowed to unload the truck or get it from the back. Even though they have plenty of stuff in the back. We talked to the manager who said that they are grossly understaffed and there is no one to put food on shelves. Too bad. Shop somewhere else. read more

Trader Joe's is owned and operated by the folk who own ALDI. ALDI is a European discount supermarket chain that revolutionized shopping in Germany. The price are cheap and good quality. ALDI does not stock many brands, and mainly stocks its own brands. Also, they take debit card, but not credit card. If ALDI has the product you are looking for, it is probably the cheapest place with it, because they are a no frills store. read more

I became an avid ALDI shopper during this ridiculous economic disaster we've been enduring the last year or so. You gotta save money somehow- and seriously THIS is the way. ALDI is a very small store- so your grocery chopping literally takes 4 aisles, 20 minutes and a cart full for about $70 bucks. When I say cart full I mean overflowing to the gills cart full. ALDI is so ridiculously cheap I sometimes feel like I am ripping them off. Sure, they sell their brand of generic foods, but guess what? ALDI'S "Millville" Cheerios taste just like the regular ones and cost half the price. Their "Clancy's" version of Chex Mix and Doritos are 99 cents compared to the $5 bucks you'll spend at a regular grocery store. Why you ask? Simply because ALDI doesn't pay for marketing and pretty packaging. It is a no frills store. You also buy or bring your own bags, pack your groceries into them and rent your cart for 25 cents. This means things are even cheaper for you! Yay! I have fallen in love with quite a few "regulars" at ALDI. I love their whipped yogurts- the raspberry is divine- I eat their "Fit-N-Active" yogurt covered raisins by the handful and their produce is out of this world. The fruits and veggies we get here are usually 10 x better than that of any large supermarket- and the prices are still cheaper. The way it goes in this household? 1) Make a grocery list 2) Go to ALDI. Purchase what we can on said list here. 3) Go to Schnuck's for the rest. We seriously save a good $50-$75 bucks every time we go here. Trust me, we've tested this theory on numerous occasions. My advice? If you are looking to cut back- ALDI is the sure fire way to go. Walnut Lovers...Just spreading the word, if you shop the Memphis Aldi's location on 2877 Lamar, Store 71, you might want to think twice before you decide to buy a bag of walnuts. Their walnuts for practically this whole year has been stale in taste and odor. I recommend before you try any of their walnuts in your recipes to taste the nuts first. They are dealing with recently dated but very old in nature walnuts. The Aldi's store on Perkins/America Way evidently are receiving the same batches of these very stale walnuts. Your experience may be different depending on where you shop your walnuts, that I'm not sure...But I do know these two areas are not on the "UPs" when it comes to "Fresh" walnuts. read more

I really do like aldis their brand is sometimes better than name brands they have the lowest prices around but its reminiscent of goodwill. Kind of organized but not really similar stuff is together and there is normally only one cashier if you're lucky you may have 2 that day. I'd honestly pay more per item to not stand in line for as long although without them having to bag they just scan and drop so they are pretty efficient. I can feed my husband and I for a month for only $150 to $200 at aldis. But my advice go in on a Wednesday or a Tuesday that's when new produce and meat come in. :) read more

Oh man I love aldi so much it's crazy. I spent so many years not knowing it existed and I am so glad that stopped! Aldi is the most inexpensive grocery store with the highest quality. I regularly try items that I have never bought before and I have only ever found two items that I did not enjoy out of weekly shopping trips for the past three years!!!! It's amazing. Aldi has its own brand names, and at first I was skeptical that they would be high quality, but they proved me wrong. I have found that most items they sell I prefer in Aldi brand instead of the original brand name product that I used to buy at Kroger. Don't forget to bring your own bags!
