We were referred here to purchase some Kalamazoo coffee beans. They had a large variety of beans, ground coffee and K- cups. One of my favorite features was the bulk bin area. I was able to scoop out any amount of beans, rather than being stuck with a pre-packaged size. The store was clean, well layed out and staff were very nice.

If you're looking for your standard market goodness, it can probably be found here. On top of that there's a few more unique vendors including a "Cheese Lady", chocolate covered bacon, Sinsational Cookies and more. If you're looking for fresh fruits and veggies, but someone else you're with just won't have any of those, rest assured they'll have a few sugary goods to select from as well. There's also a playground for small children on the backside of the market, which makes it easy to bring the family! This location is about 1/3 the size of the Bank St. market (from what I've been told) which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but may not be what some new folks might expect. The only downside to a smaller market is that there are fewer price points to select from for your produce. Other than that it's a great place!

They come in four flavors (original, garlic, jalepeno and rosemary -- both the garlic and the rosemary are favorites in my household). They're available at several shops locally -- I typically pick them up at Salut, where I first tasted them at an Art Hop event.

When entering our receipt at home, we discovered that about half were charged at $12.99/lb. My wife called immediately and was told it was her responsibility to check every individual package, even though they were all displayed together under the sale tag. A short time later the owner called and offered to make it right, which we appreciated. I attempted to update my original review to reflect that resolution, but found that I had been blocked from the store's Facebook page and could no longer access my review. Posting this simply so other customers are aware to double-check pricing, even when items are stocked under a single sale sign.

Portage's Vs Kalamazoo's Farmer Market…read more Portage's is a little more upscale than Kalamazoo's. The produce is well arranged and has more pleasing aesthetics. The chalk signs give it a quaint feel. Portage's seemed to be less busy than Kalamazoo's. There were a few of the same vendors (ex. the cheese, the chips/salsa/tamale and the popcorn vendor) and a few that were unique. Kalamazoo has way more food trucks and more "hand made" non-food items. Kalamazoo's is definitely bigger and has a larger variety of produce vendors. Winner: Kalamazoo's Farmers Market

Portage market started out so small, it's grown so fast! They even have sarkozy bakery ! Who can go wrong with that?? I love bringing my kids, letting them pick out what they want. You can use food stamps and they are doubled up, spend $20 in food stamps, get $40 in double up coins. I've been coming for this market for year. Just love it !

I really like this supermarket close to downtown Kalamazoo…read more I also THANK the owners for keeping a grocery store in a central city area. Too many cities and towns across the nation have suffered loss of their central grocers, with none to replace them *nearby*. (A WalMart on the far outskirts of town does not count.) Bravo and kudos to these folks. The store is spiffy clean. It's well-stocked and organized. Also, special displays don't block aisles (and customers) to shout "Look at me! Buy me!" as now happens in too many grocery stores. Hate all that clutter: Makes it harder for people to get past one another in aisles. Stores that do that are using grocer- (instead of customer-) centered marketing. Most workers efficient and helpful, though there can be a little longer wait at the service desk than at other grocers. That's partly because more customers need the special services offered there (e.g. check cashing). All groceries I bought there have been fine, although I have avoided the fresh meat because other people have said to avoid it. But pre-packaged processed meat there (like hot dogs, bacon) have always been fine. Dairy too.
