This is one of the Aldi's that still have self checkout (card only) thank you. The people are always super friendly and if you don't see it on a shelf, always ask they will let you know immediately if they are in stock. Pro-tip: you might have to look behind the boxes to find the flavor of an item you're looking for. Example their BBQ sauce has 3 different flavors and one is prominently displayed while the other are behind. I find their produce and vegetables to be very fresh and the prices are quite competitive with larger grocery store chains. I love going the Aldi Finds aisle, you can find some really cool items for your home, garden or foodstuffs. The only letdowns are if you're in need of some like chili sauce you will need to go to another store. The store can be crowded on the weekend. read more

Cheapest groceries in town. While I also shop at Mariano's and Jewel (and Trader Joe's for snacks and Whole Foods for specialty items), Aldi is the best for staples and day to day groceries. Their produce has improved greatly and seriously their prices are usually the lowest. I always bring my own bags which I keep in the car to prevent having to buy them, and they recently added self-checkouts, making in and out much faster. I love them! read more

The idiots who work here can't figure out that empty shelves are a problem. Stopped in twice, six days apart, to find wide open shelves in the dairy case but plenty of stock for the open spots just out of reach in the cooler behind the shelves. All they need to do is put it on the shelf. They're really good at blocking entire aisles with overflowing pallet jacks during the busiest times of the day, but they can't figure out how to move things onto the shelves in the dairy case. read more

This is a pretty good Aldi with a lot of the standard stuff you'd expect there plus some bonus items. Other Aldis I've seen in the city have started shifting towards more expensive stuff with some niche products that I wouldn't think to look for at Aldi, but this one still has the right stuff and it isn't overly crowded, at least when I've gone. The veggies seem to get stocked daily, and they have a good supply of everything else you'd want to buy there - cooking staples, canned veggies, snacks, tons of dairy, meats, and frozen food. I filled my shopping bag to a pretty heavy amount and even with a 2 pound pack of turkey the total was just over twenty dollars. They have a few items that are higher priced, like the cherries - or they were higher during winter - so keep an eye out for those items. Overall the selection was really good and it wasn't impossible to get in or out. And Teddy at the cash registers was really helpful - he works super fast as you would expect an Aldi cashier to do and he was really friendly and personable too. He was working fast and working hard but still had time to ask customers how they were doing and do price checks and answer questions as needed. read more

Aldi staffers are often seen scratching heads and bodies. Sad to think that these people are handling food. Also, staffers frequently drop food items and then just put them on the shelf. No effort is made to clean the dropped item. Prices at Aldi Foods are usually much lower than those of other big food stores. Exceptions are snacks and candy. You may find better prices for these items at dollars stores. Cereals are also usually cheaper at dollar stores. read more

I don't want to give a full 5 stars but I'd give 4.5 if I could. I used to do all my shopping at Marianos & Jewel, not realizing that I was spending way more money than I needed to. I started shopping here and Marketplace next door ever since I moved within walking distance. I'm kind of a picky eater and it was difficult at first because they have very little name brand stuff. But now that I'm used to it, I swear my grocery bill has been cut in half. At this point, I barely go to Marianos or Jewel anymore. I've started getting my meat at Whole Foods (reducing the amount I eat but making sure I buy the less tortured kind) and snacks at Trader Joe's (my one true love). Anyway, back to ALDI. This location just recently put in a bunch of self checkouts and I love it. There's barely ever a line now. I'm cutting half a star though because I swear, this location never has any of the cool non-food related items I see at other ALDI stores. read more

Aldi is the sibling of Trader Joe's, and they have limited brand name items, mostly generic/Aldi-produced food items as well as other specialty items. This particular location off of Oakton is a little underwhelming, as the number and the variety of items seem a bit scarce. Prices are still great, as I usually stick to their saltine crackers, spreadable cheeses, the milk chocolate candies, and their baking items (sprinkles, frostings, and cake mixes). Don't forget to bring your reusable grocery bags (as you would have to dish out a few more cents for the store's plastic ones). If you try to eat healthy, that can be expensive and challenging, but believe it or not, you can actually cut some of the cost at Aldi's. You just have to be prudent about what you buy. I always recommend shopping the perimeter of the store, that way you avoid all the boxed process stuff, although this is NOT the case when you first enter Aldi's, as they hit you right away with a lot of processed convenience snack junk. Dodge that bullet until you hit the milk. Aldi's has had some healthier brand lines in place for awhile now such as stock, noodles and grains, and they have started added a little organic as well. The price on organic canned beans alone is a savings. The produce is always hit and miss so you have to be shrewd. read more

I enjoy going to this store. They are well supplied and prices are great! It is conveniently located next door to a produce store so if I don't find a certain fruit or vegetable I need at Aldi it is very convenient to just go next door. Lines can be log but the cashiers know their job and run the line quickly. I enjoy the variety of grocer items they gave, and although they don't supply everything regularly I always find things I can substitute for what I need and they also have a nice selection of imported snacks and such that they switch frequently which are quite tasty. Parking is easy to with a nice big lot! read more

Great chain of value priced food and sundry items. We shopped Aldi in Germany and were delighted when they landed blocks from our home. I appreciate the limit selection. One size makes buying easy. Good quality and value for money. FYI the German owners of Aldi also own Trader Joe's. We shop there weekly and always find what we need easily and they accept credit cards and Apple Pay. read more

This is about an interview I had at this location about a week ago. That's too bad but thank you for letting me know and I felt this would happen because your interviewer showed a bit of racism. From the time she saw me, the constantly looking me up-and-down the way she was very short with me.  Basically she didn't even want to interviewe me. I'm very sure it's because I'm a black male. She also told me when I asked her is there room for growth with the company? She said I would never go past being a storm manager no matter how long I was with the company, the only way I can get promoted to a corporate position is if I go to college because of my skill set. She said years of experience as store manager wouldn't help. That was very rude and it also made me think twice about wanting to work for your company. You definitely should train your district managers on how to interview people and you definitely shouldn't hire district managers who are racist. read more

This location closed for a brief period this summer for remodeling but the wait was worth it.Very well lit with large signs directing you to a larger choice of fresh and frozen foods. The Beer and Wine selection has improved as well as the choices of cheeses and specialty foods.Aldi staples such as canned foods,coffees and the like make up the middle aisles.I'm impressed with what Aldi has done with this location.It will be a template for Aldi stores going forward whether they be new or remodeled. read more

I love Aldis. It's a great store to pop in to get inexpensive groceries. I needed English muffins, bagels, cream cheese, eggs and coffee creamer. The only danger is running the junk food gauntlet in the first aisle. You have to have iron like resolve and blinders on to get through the chips, cookies and candies. I managed to get through with 2 containers of nuts. One can of mixed nuts and one jar of roasted peanuts (whew!!!). Not too bad read more

As of 4/21/20, this Aldi location was NOT complying with the local Mayor's mandatory ordinance concerning COVID-19 face coverings. In Skokie, face coverings are required by all employees and shoppers. You can read the ordinance online, there is no exception for chain stores. When I shopped at this Aldi on 4/21, the store was NOT complying with face coverings, keeping customers at 6-feet distance and ensuring they are obeying the signs or arrows on the floor. The store was not counting how many customers come inside. I asked both a cashier and the store manager why they were not asking guests to wear their face coverings. There were customers in the store who had masks around their necks but not their faces? The store manager told me she flat out refuses to ask people to wear their masks despite the local mandatory ordinance. She said she refuses to police guests. She refused to even POLITELY ask them NEXT time to come back with a mask. I was absolutely shocked that this manager would refuse to help her own employees by limiting the spread of COVID-19. I called corporate and filed a complaint. I also called the local health department and a sanitation worker went to this store to warn them that face coverings are required while the ordinance is in place. Absolutely absurd behavior by a store manager. It's not her fault if an individual won't wear their mask, but the store manager should be a role model for the employees, not playing with a loaded gun and endangering lives. Imagine dying alone, hooked up to a ventilator, unable to even kiss your loved ones good bye. Disgusting behavior. read more

A fan of the prices, a fan of the selection. There's not much to say about customer service because you barely work with anyone there. And it's kind of first come first serve. If something is out of stock.. too bad.. so sad. I don't like that you can't use a credit card there. I do like that they don't use bags and you have to use cardboard boxes. It's nice and environmentally friendly. I don't like that if you don't have a quarter for a cart you can't use one, but I do like that you actually have to move your behind and walk back and forth with your cart to get the quarter back. Last time I was there, I remembered the time before I was there when I did not have a quarter on hand. So I decided to leave the cart for someone without taking my quarter back.. kind of like a pay it forward type of thing. :) And yes.. I still walked the cart back to where it belonged! read more

Did some grocery shopping here this week and was pleasantly surprised with the savings, as well as the quality of their off-brand items! You will have to pay a quarter for your cart and pay for your own bags (just bring your own, people!). Just a warning so you don't freak out when you expect it to be like Jewel. Anyway, they have normal brand items as well as off-brand items. I bought a little bit of everything. They have a large amount of frozen foods. They have OK produce. If you've never been to an aldi's you owe it to yourself to come to one, at least once. This goes double if you're at all worried about money. Now, I don't mean kool aid and top ramen every night poor, either. If saving money would make you happy, then aldi's will be your best friend. First off, yes, you will need a quarter for a cart, you're self-bagging, and the first bags aren't free. However, I really think that's about as minor an inconvenience as can be. Also, some of the off-brand foods are hit and miss. There's a pot pie I personally can't stand, but my friend swears by them (there's really no accounting for taste). That said, the prices here are extremely low. Almost so low, it feels like I'm taking advantage of a misprint. If you can get the fresh fruits close to delivery, they're also about as fresh as Dominick's or Jewel's, but for much cheaper. However, I'll generally stick to one of the produce markets for them, unless I see the truck on its way out. Aldi's is also a godsend for cooking staples, which was how I found the place originally. Sugar, spices, flour, and the like are all at or below warehouse prices without having to buy that 15 pound jug of cajun seasoning. If the non-elite status of the whole place gets you down, just keep your huge aldi bags under the sink behind the trash bags, and no one has to know. They certainly won't from taste alone. read more

Great produce section. Great selection of dried fruits, which is why I was here! I like to make my own trail mix with almonds and dried cherries and cranberries. The dry roasted unsalted almonds are fantastic! The cherries are my fave! Go during the early morning though Bc like most other aldi's this place can get outta control with lines and crabby cart pushers. Being your own bag 'yatches or plan to carry your goods or scout out a great cardboard box to take home. They also have really great reusable bags for purchase, their giant tan colored bag is my favorite. Bathrooms: fab! Definitely poopable if the occasion should arise whilst shopping. Some items are at an incredible discount, while others are pretty standardly priced - it just kind of depends. With Aldis, most either love it or hate it. No, they are not a full service store. But they also are not full price as well. They are a great place to buy the staples, like bread, dairy, frozen meats, canned goods, basic houswears. You'll have to shop else wear for name brand goods. Aldi's has their own line of goods, and it is not generic or low quality in any way. As a former restaurant manager, I can attest to using them as an emergency supplier once and a while. I would stay away from the produce as it has never tended to last as long as other stores, but for hardy veggies like potatoes, no worries.So if it's more about value than name brand, check them out. They are all designed the same, and can see a little off putting, but I will buy my own bags if is saves me 40 to 50% over a similar list as Jewel read more

As a kid, I used to be afraid for being made fun of because my parents shopped at Aldi. Now, I understand why they did it. The prices here are awesome and you can get a big cart of groceries for way less than any other place. The staff is very friendly and well paid (for retail). The store is clean and well organized too. This is a place that you may not want to buy the produce, but for most of your grocery needs it is excellent. read more

This store proves the old proverb "there's no such thing as a free ride." If you wonder how their prices are so low, you'll quickly discover when it's time to check out. All you'll usually just find there is one cashier. And checkout lines stretching with 10 to 20 people waiting in them. Sometimes after you've been waiting long enough, a 2nd employee will come and open another checkout line. For the most part though, the whole experience of waiting in these checkout lines is enough to keep me away from Aldi and remind that living in poverty sucks. read more

As a full on grocery store snob I went here begrudgingly. I was so very surprised! Organic dairy and meats! And half what I would usually pay! Bam! And they have most of what I need.
