Now that I live outside of Chicago proper, I no longer have access to some of the specialty markets and grocery stores I used to frequent. Meijer tends to meet my needs when it comes to grocery, home products, casual clothing, personal care products, and gardening. Two things that stand out the most was their gardening products. I had started gardening, so seeds, plant food, gardening soil, and other gardening items were reasonably priced. Being a pescatarian, there vegetables worked for me. But now that I grow my own, the gardening catalog worked perfectly for me. As to grocery, although there has been spike in grocery prices, they were not as high as I noted at other grocery stores. It helps that I take advantage of coupons, specials, and price reductions thanks to participating in their perks program. This store serves four immediate suburbs, so it tends to get busy on weekends, for sure. I go during the middle of the day when I work from home through the week. I have yet to go and not find what I needed. And because I am a very picky shopper, primarily from the perimeter of the grocery store, I have not been disappointed in what they have.

So I asked the gal at the bakery counter if I could place an order and she looked at me and said 'I don't know if you want to, I guess' . I said 'oh I said if you're busy, I'll come back' . I asked how much time she needed for me to come back and she said I'm the only one here. When I mentioned, I tried to order online. She said I don't know why you're having a problem. We're getting online orders. She was not willing to help me. It was one of the worst experiences I've had at Meijer and Meijer is my favorite store. I just said that I will go to Strack and Van Til to place my order and she said 'fine go do that'. For reference this was Sunday 5:20 PM, June 28.

Recently they did something to their self checkout kiosks so every time you scan an item and place…read moreit in the bag, the thing stops with a big notification and announcement "please scan all items before placing them in the bagging area", like you're a thief. You have to wait 10 seconds for it to go away to scan your next item and as soon as you bag that the obnoxious notice is back. God forbid you're trying to check out with more than a couple items or you'll be there for hours. I assume this is some kind of loss prevention thing but if you're that paranoid about someone stealing at the checkout then get rid of the kiosks and hire more checkers. And dont leave the self checkout as the only option at night. The only reason I ever went here was if I needed something later at night. Instead, from now on, I'm gonna drive the mile to the 24 hour Jewel Osco who don't call me a thief or waste my time.

The man i initially asked replied to me with a smart remark & relayed the question of where the toilet paper was to another worker who responded very rudely that the toilet paper was in aisle 12. Following this I continued to see the same man around the store multiple times while i tried to shop. Overall this experience was extremely uncomfortable & I won't be back! When i shop at a store i want to be greeted pleasantly, not ever in that manner especially if I'm spending my hard earned money.

Anyway, this a great location, everyone is helpful, and notably there is (of course as matters to me) a decent salad bar and a good amount of vegan options. Otherwise, I would not be coming. One thing of note though that I have needed many times is caffeine. They have a cold brew concentrate that uses a teaspoon or so for a cup of coffee! So read those words carefully: concentrate. That means, don't drink that whole bottle or you'll die, yo. That would be like a Futurama fry 100 cups of coffee moment. Or a Panera lemonade moment. There are some fun food options not at whole foods but in this area, and the pizza place nearby is also pretty epic. But you can't go wrong with whole foods, generally.

My kitchen is full of Gordon's cookware and knives, disposable coffee cups, disposable serving trays, spices, and sauces. And the freezer is full of my favorite appetizers. You know your bars best appetizer? Those yummy poppers, spinach and artichoke dip, and wins? Odds are they are purchased frozen from a restaurant supply like Gordon, Sysco. Or Aramark.
