I've always been a fan of Aldi. Great prices, products and concept. The store brands are mostly very good.

I have read nothing but rave reviews about the food here but I just always skipped over trying it…read moresince it's a little out of the way for me. Acadia Foods is a small market/ restaurant. They have a small selection of produce, local meat, dairy and a nice craft beer selection. They also have a booming CSA box business because there was a whole counter and fridge/freezer devoted to it. I'd like to look into that in the future. We ordered at the counter after looking at the menu for quite a while. Everything sounded so good and I had a hard time deciding from the innovative menu. I'm not vegan or vegetarian but there were tons of options for those that are so this is a perfect place for you. We got the breakfast burrito with house made tofu chorizo and the BAT sandwich. My husband got a black coffee but lots of people were getting drinks from their extensive coffee menu so don't hesitate to order what you like. I prefer water so that's what I had. The dining area was full when we got there but there were open seats at the counter and outside. We grabbed a couple stools at the counter where we could watch the coffee drinks being made. As a non-coffee drinker l, I'm still fascinated with coffee culture so it was fun seeing the different components going into each drink. While we waited for our main dishes we ate a piece of their Salted Honey Pie Bar. Oh my goodness it was love at first bite and I will be returning for that item alone! My husband said it reminded him of the filling in pecan pie without the pecans but it was not nearly as overly sweet. Instead this had a perfect balance of sweet and salty with a firm texture that held its shape in a delicious flaky crust. I think the Salted Honey Pie Bar here is one of my top 5 desserts. When the food arrived everything was hot and fresh. We shared everything so we started with the BAT sandwich. The bacon was delicious and crispy and the roasted tomato and arugula were so good too! I do wish it had a little more ingredients to it. For the price, it didn't seem as much of a value as some of the other items around the same price. The burrito was large and was topped with salsa, a little cheese and jalapeño. This is a dish meant to be eaten with a fork and knife. It's full of potato's, the house made tofu chorizo, egg and cheese. It packed a punch though so just be aware of that in case you need to cool off your mouth with a cold drink. The friendly service here was on par with the best restaurants in town. It was clean and open with a family friendly atmosphere. Thanks for the wonderful food and service Acadia Foods!

The service is a little bit transactional, but it was also busy during our visit. It took about 25 minutes to receive our order, so my coffee was gone before the food arrived. The BAT was a bit underwhelming, a bit dry and lacked much substance for the $10 price tag. It really needed more arugula and tomatoes to make it refreshing. It tasted like two slices of toast with crispy bacon. Good toast, good bacon, but some more veggies would have been nice. The Breakfast Burrito we ordered with house made tofu was loaded with potatoes, cheese, eggs and topped with salsa. It was spicy and filling, well worth the trip here. We ordered a cup of coffee, but weren't sure of their refill policy on drip coffee, but none were offered even though we sat at the counter. We also had a Salted Butter Pie which was delicious. It reminded me of pecan pie, without the pecans. Overall a solid first visit. We will be back to try that Collard Melt and Fancy Bologna Sandwich.

The Dixie Classic Farmer's Market is good but it is not my favorite. A few times I have had a hard…read moretime finding produce from North Carolina at this market a lot from Virginia, which is still regional but I would love to see more NC spots there. The flowers are beautiful, like most farmer's market they are the wild flowers. Unfortunately, wild flowers don't really hold up super well once you get home. I did think it was neat this year that they did the $20 challenge where Nikki Miller-Ka cooks a meal for four, for $20 with all ingredients that were purchased at the Farmer's Market. I do really like Grace Meadow Farm, that is usually at this market that sells chorizo and ground beef. It is some good stuff! The butter at Mill River Farm is also awesome. The parking lot is pretty tight and can be a bit of a pain getting in and finding a spot on Saturday morning.

Well, I think the farmers deserve to raise their prices because they're ridiculously low as it is. I've only been in Winston Salem for a year, but this Farmer's Market can even beat Costco on price and quality. Come early for the best selection of everything from green onions to heirloom tomatoes, to organic peppers. Bring flowers home to your wife/girlfriend, and buy a rug from the nice veteran on the eastern wall. There are salsa (the food, not the dance) competitions, local honey farmers, and a good amount of (free) parking. The best part about this place is how kind the farmers are. They'll always give you more than you pay for, and are generous on their samples.
