Stumbled on this place as we were walking back from a meeting and decided to try it out. I ordered the curry bowl and green tea. Absolutely loved the curry bowl. It's made up of black rice, curried cauliflower, fingerling potatoes, crispy chickpeas, scallion, cilantro, curry dressing. You can have it as a vegan meal or add chicken to it. The curry was so flavorful and I couldn't stop eating it. The green tea was also so refreshing. I will definitely be back to try other things on the menu.

Open for takeout during covid. In the warmer months they had a great outdoor setup that was perfect to come get a drink and study, but the colder weather has caused them to close their doors and only offer takeout. It looks closed from the outside so definitely double check before leaving! As far as food goes, they are only serving the "Grab and Go" items, which the cooks refill with the various options as frequently as they are sold. Their pastries are pretty good, I got an almond croissant and loved it. During covid, they're giving packaged pastries, so I'm not 100% sure about the freshness. I also got a soba bowl ($9.00), which the chef had just brought out when I got it and it was good!! A balanced and fillling meal with zesty asian flavors. I'm not sure it was worth $9.00, unfortunately. Along the same lines, the Crimson Berry ($2.25) is not worth the money, it's basically water that was in the same room with a berry. Their mochas are pretty good though. I got a decaf mocha with almond milk and it tasted like a slightly bitter hot chocolate, so good!!

Summer hours are a little shorter than usual (they close an hour earlier), but are still long enough for a midday coffee break (you know, like the one you need around 2PM after inhaling a huge lunch at noon?). They also have lunch items available between 11-3PM on weekdays. Although I haven't tried all the options, the options that I have tried have all been pretty good - at least when compared to most cafe foods. For those of us working in the medical sciences center across the street, Aldo's is a blessing. The brightly-lit cafe with a high-ceiling is definitely a welcomed reprieve from the cramped quarters of a typical lab. Remember to check in on yelp for 10% off their frappes!

I've had several business lunches at Aldo's over the las year. I've had a decent meal every time. Today I had a cup of the bean and bacon stew and the chicken carbonara salad. The cup of soup was bowl sized. The salad was huge. Then bean and bacon soup was OK, a bit salty. The Chicken Salad was fantastic. Creamy noodles and fresh greens tossed with bacon and big chunks of chicken. The menu seems to rotate or else I'm just not paying attention. Aldo's is in the Wisconsin Inst. of Discovery - it's a lovely setting and offers a bit of an upscale dining room in the heart of the UW campus. Give it shot.

Go a little before lunch time to avoid the rush! Absolutely love their Asian salad and tuna sandwich - healthy options while on campus. This building is also beautiful, with soothing water features and usually plenty of seating outside of peak hours. A great place to work, nosh and also makes a great latte. Beautiful patio during summer.

While they seem to be known for their sandwiches, and for good reason, they have a lot of great artisanal items rooted in Italian cooking. This includes oils, wines, sauces, spices, treats and more. The "more" also includes fresh-made pasta, hand cut meats and cheeses, gelato and a few other absolutely delish items! Back to that sandwich...we were not hungry, but could not pass up a good sandwich, especially one freshly made on locally sourced and baked bread! The bread was the absolutely star of each bite, I mean...sheesh! The sandwich in full was great, and definitely worth the stop in on its own. The store itself is small, but mighty, and well laid out, stocked with all the goods, flows well, clean and in great condition. Service was stellar as well. We were greeted upon entry, checked on while browsing and chatted up while being rang out. Overall, solid spot for a ready-made meal, a special ingredient, a tasty sandwich, fresh pasta, charcuterie or just to wander around in!

I had the prosciutto sandwich and my SO had the pastrami and both had nothing but good things to say as we ate. The prosciutto sandwich had balsamic that had just started to soak into the otherwise crunchy bread, with these big chunks of mozzarella and the freshest tomatoes and greens. Alimentari itself is this awesome little deli/grocer with both bagged pastas AND FRESH PASTA/antipasti available to buy, as well as all sorts of goods, breads, coffees, chocolates, beverages and a whole wine selection. Beware that there is no seating inside but definitely do not let this dissuade you from visiting.

The turkey was a hot sandwich while the classic was a cold. The location itself is small, feels like a hole in the wall bar with great cozy vibes. We were lucky enough to bike over on a nice day and so we sat in the outdoor space which is also small but got the job done before we were back on our bikes with happy bellies. We will definitely be revisiting so we can try more of the menu!

But if you were open to just having a nice casual dinner in a retro easy place, this is it. My fiance and I went to meet up with some friends from out of town and from a list of places I wanted to try, they chose this one. Between the two of us, we spent about $60 for this meal, which I suppose now adays is on par with what you can get away with. We also left with half a sandwich because honestly, these guys are huge! -Hot Beef Sando with Cheese (extra): this was a massive sandwich, packed with flavor. The ah jus was on the side and needed for dunking. It hit the spot, was a messy affair, but was very good. The meat wasn't melt in your mouth, it was actually quite dry, but the mix of everything together and the dip made it good overall. - Chili Cup: well spiced, super small cup and charging a dollar for each addition of onion, cheese, and sour cream is murder. Pass on the fixings, the soup doesn't need it, but it's not something i'd get again as it wasn't knock out of the park good. -Homemade Orange Soda: this was great. I love the nostalgia of using Tang and it was more earthy because they put some spices in it. Overall, would get again. -Coleslaw was asian inspired and made well, especially with the mint on top. Be warned though, its the same slaw on the pulled chicken...which speaking of: -Pulled chicken sandwich: It's their meat americanized fusion version of a banh mi. I know they have a vegan one on their menu, but this one felt less like a sandwich. The spices weren't quite asian tho and was interesting with the slaw. I wouldn't say it was my favorite but I did eat a whole half. Happy nomming!

They have a special sandwich every day and I strongly recommend getting it before they run out. Their focaccia is to die for!! Honestly so are their chocolate chip cookies. The sandwich had a good variety of textures throughout - my only wish was that the focaccia was also toasted. I think that would complement the sandwich textures even more. The coveted chocolate chip is *that* good. Thin, crispy edges, chewy center with flat chocolate wafer chips. The salt on top was a wonderful contrast to the sweet chocolate. You also can't beat the price of $2.25 for a good cookie. My only other complaint would be the limited seating. The workers here also try to provide table service and bring your sandwich out to you if you do dine-in. However, there isn't a system for them to find you at the table easily and they are just wandering around looking for you by name. Having a little table # placard would benefit the staff here.
