It's been a few years. Im bumping them up a star given how many mediocre restaurants there are now in the Madison area. This one is a more solid choice than a lot of what is out there. Plenty of breakfast options. Prices are as high, if not higher than Madison though. Appreciate them having Madison Sourdough Company bakery items. I stopped by for Bingo on Wednesday morning (10 am with fun prizes like candles and plants!!) What a fun breakfast spot to grab a bite and a drink with friends! They have treats from Madison Sourdough company and a ton of other options for breakfast and lunch! Easily accessible parking, tons of, booster seats for children, outdoor seating, and a relaxing environment that's friendly if you need to work on something. Stopped in to Old Town Coffee House on a early Saturday morning and you can park right in front of the entrance. It's a very open and good sized restaurant with a large table in the corner for our party of eight that included a couple of energetic little ones ! They have daily specials and i got the steak and eggs and it was good for a fair price. You order at the counter and they bring it out to your table . Locally raised beef hamburger is also for sale. I have been here twice now, and it would get a 5 star from me both times. The food here is incredible, and a place that is worth visiting if you are in the area. I got the eggs, bacon, and pancakes the first time as a safe option. All was very good and they give you a big portion size! This time I got the cordon bleu skillet.. and OH gosh, it was amazing!!!! I some reviews that the service was really slow, the first time it wasn't as busy and took a little longer for us to get our food. However, the second time was a lot more busy, but we also got our food faster. They were well staffed the second time and was a reasonable wait time for food. First time visit. Looks nice and tidy. Kitchen area visible and looks clean as well. An Eggs Benedict is being awaited. Something to make or break a good breakfast. Coffee arrived quickly but not in a Togo cup as requested. Server girl is very attentive otherwise. Coffee is not particularly good. This isn't Folgers but it also isn't Starbucks. After seeing order completed and watching the servers clear tables and other side tasks I watched for about 3-4 minutes before I walked up and requested it myself. The other server, I'm thinking owner or Mgr, she promptly brought it over as well as gave me a to go cup. Nice. The potato's are outstanding. Eggs cooked nearly perfectly, though a teensy bit too long. Probably because of the residual heat as well as time under lamps. Hollandaise is ok, I'm undecided if it's homemade. I think that places that don't season or brown any of their food should have mandatory warnings. There is a certain brand of people that really enjoy eating an overpriced wet mess, but the rest of us should be given some heads up. Olde Towne Coffee House falls into that category. Maybe we can start calling them "cafeterias" since that's what they are. The type of place where you order at the front and then pick a table that will inevitably be next to a family of 16, of which 5 are children that insist on screaming everything they say. The type of place that gives you a mug to get your own coffee with that comes from a gas station carafe and is so unreasonably hot that spilling it on someone could be considered assault with a deadly weapon, and tastes like dirt. The type of place that has the same menu options as every single other breakfast-serving restaurant in America, including the classic "We'll fry two eggs for you and it costs EIGHT WHOLE DOLLARS." I got some kind of skillet. Have you ever thought to yourself "Man, these scrambled eggs are tough" in your life? I hadn't until coming here. There was something that was supposed to be cheese in there, but it was more like melted glue but with less flavor somehow. The potatoes had the consistency of having been boiled by someone who gave up about two-thirds of the way through. The only flavor came from the little nuggets of sausage that were very clearly just cut up bits of cheap frozen breakfast sausage. I tried to at least salvage the meal by putting jam onto my toast, but every single table only had marmalade and peanut butter. Baffling. read more

A-OK is pretty much on target for my thoughts on this place. It was a cute restaurant and seemed to have a healthy business which is nice to see after the closing of Heritage Cafe in Madison on Cottage Grove Road. I had the fiesta wrap with fruit. Other side options were waffle fries and cottage cheese and I appreciated the selection. The wrap was fine but far from a party in my mouth. I was hoping it would be a bit more spicy, but understand they probably have to cater to milder tastes. Next time I'll try something else. I imagine Old Town Coffee House probably shines at breakfast. Next time I should consider doing that although I feel I can probably make a healthier choice with lunch. Finally, service seemed a little slow but that could simply be because they were pumping out the entrees and since I was by myself today, I didn't have conversation to pass the time. read more

Probably one of may favorite places, if not my actual favorite place, to get breakfast in the Cottage Grove/East Madison area. The breakfast potatoes are impeccable, and the service and quality of food overall is very consistently good. Favorite dish is the Spinach and Bacon Avocado Skillet (which is of course served over those killer potatoes). En route out of town we stopped at Olde Town for breakfast. It is a quick serve casual type place... order at the counter and your food is brought to the table when ready. We were a little put off by the lady at the bakery counter. She didn't seem to know if the items were made on site or not. Eventually she said that they are baked "downstairs". The lady taking our order was nice and food was brought out promptly. The food was just ok, nothing fantastic or exceptional to warrant more stars. It was fine, and they allowed us coffees to go, so that's a plus. read more

Olde Town is open during COVID for takeout! I ordered breakfast and it was only 20 minutes for three orders. I got classic eggs, potatoes, toast, and added a side of sausage. The potatoes are the best always! Another classic was ordered but with a side of bacon. Bacon was crispy and a hit! A scrambler was ordered and was well liked! Also, they have local grass fed beef for sale. I bought a pound of it and plan to make burgers with it! This is a cute little spot! We went in around 11 a.m. on a Saturday and the place was really dead...which is always kind of nice when we're eating out with the kid. I ended up getting their chorizo Benedict, and it was pretty good! It wasn't AMAZING, but I would eat it again. My husband did like his corned beef hash, but it was a little weird looking...like they didn't finish cooking the potatoes. It was almost impossible for him to eat with a fork because everything was slippery on his plate - if they had browned the potatoes more it would have been perfect. Met a colleague here for a business meeting breakfast. It was my first visit because it's not exactly close to home. The cafe is spacious and clean with lots of natural light and comfortable seating. They had free wi-fi and most excellent self serve coffee. The menu is diverse enough that you'll find something pleasing to your palette. My eggs were cooked perfectly. The baked goods looked beautiful but I didn't try any of the six types of pie they were offering. The coffee is always hot and fresh, the meats and cheese they use for their salads and sandwiches is so delicious and the bakery items are no joke! Their home made soups are very good but I was not fond of the chili. It was too spicy for my taste. A friend ordered the Mediterranean omelet and said it was very good. It was loaded with veggies including artichoke hearts..several large. The service is very friendly and the portions are "Wisconsin sized". Ya, hey. So for me there is always enough for another meal. I have not had any of their homemade desserts but I was nearly tempted to order pecan pie yesterday. It looked SO good. This is a good place to drop in for a to-go coffee. I had some time to kill and was needing a caffeine fix. Olde Town is set up primarily as a diner with booths and tables with just a small area of couches for lounging. The price for standard brewed coffee was very affordable with their large (approx ~24oz) clocking in at $1.95. Stopped here for some air conditioning and a quick lunch before my daughter's game at a nearby field. Ice tea was fresh brewed and strong- fabulous. The rustic ham sandwich was very tasty with high quality ham and cheddar cheese but the fresh fruit was off. After a bit I realized it smelled like fish. It happens, a cooler spill or bad cutting board. Told the waitress and she was very good about it. I didn't really want anything in return, just asked for more iced tea.
