    Mole Chicken Enchiladas

We were late to this party. We have been meaning to go here for a long time due to all the good word floating back to us. I did not know they offered Italian dishes on the menu. We had a quiet, early dinner Thursday 12.23. The space is petite, very clean, and festive. The chips and salsa were great. The salsa was "creamy" and had a kick. I could not figure out why it had the consistency it did. It was very unique and delicious. We ordered guacamole and fried artichokes as an app. We had shrimp scampi and chicken mole enchiladas. We took a tres leches to go. Service was perfect. Food was delicious. I can't wait to try the patio in the early summer. Great local byob for really good food.

Where to start. This place has been around over a year I believe but is in an out of the way area but hard to miss if you drive by at night with all the neat lights. I always forget they're over here though. When I was finally able to stop in a give it a try. The first thing I noticed is how busy it was inside! Every table except one high top and the bar was taken. Also this place is spotless and just nice looking inside. I was at a table for 3 and let me start off by saying my water glass was NEVER empty. We ordered the guac and chips and salsa came to the table to start; it tasted fresh and homemade. As for the guac there was too much cilantro for my liking and it wasn't sliced thin enough for me. We also ordered the chicken quesadilla entree, steak fajitas. and a side of rice with beans. The food took a while for us but again they were super busy. Everything looked great but the chicken and steak lacked seasoning which was disappointing. Over all the food was just bland.

Nice outdoor seating. I got the pineapple fajitas with shrimp steak and chicken. Very good. My hubby got salmon with tequila sauce he also enjoyed. Mango juice was good. Very friendly staff.

There were several Mexican restaurants to choose from and many had great Yelp reviews. After careful consideration .... Tacos El Tio was our pick and so glad it was! What a gem. And they have a full liquor license with tons of great drinks, especially if you're looking for a margarita! I opted for a nice Mandarin Jarritos soda -- i was just in the mood. They also have screens with sporting events on + an area with a full bar to hang. They have booths and areas for large tables too - so it's great for the whole family or a nice date night. My husband loved his steak fajitas and could not stop raving about them. He loved them! I ordered the chicken fajita enchilada..and it was ginormous - - you could make two meals out of it! Sorry I dont have more photos - - we were hungry! :) And I cannot forget our awesome server, Jose! He was a super nice server and loved that he was from Ecuador - - where we recently traveled! We will definitely be back. I just made your Mexican restaurant selection for Egg Harbor Township easy!

A fun time at Egg Harbor's second-best Mexican restaurant…read more If you look at Yelp, you'll see there's another Mexican restaurant that has a slightly better rating than Tacos El Tio. HOWEVER, that other place is BYOB, and if you want to have an alcoholic beverage, for example, a margarita, you'll need to bring your own tequila. Tacos El Tio is a full-service Mexican restaurant that offers well-crafted beverages alongside delicious food. Now, to the specifics... TET has lots of parking. The inside is large, clean, and offers plenty of comfortable seating. You might prefer a table or booth that's on the far side of the dining room, well away from the bar area with its speakers and any loud conversations. Our server, Julie, was attentive, efficient, and delightful. They offer a range of margaritas, from specialty concoctions to their margaritas-on-tap. The on-tap version is about half the cost of the concocted version and, in my opinion, a far better value. As for food, all we tried, all we had to try, was their Los Nachos El Tio. That was a plate, heaped high with corn tortillas, layered with nacho stuff, along with generous portions of beef, chicken, and chorizo. And, unlike the nachos offered by some places, the good stuff wasn't merely a topping; it was interspersed with chips from top to bottom. And it was enough that even though we started off hungry, and even though it was delicious, my wife and I couldn't finish it. The only thing we'll do at our next visit is leave out the chorizo; it was our least favorite of the three proteins. TLDR: Sit somewhere far from the bar, get the least expensive margaritas, order the nachos (maybe without the chorizo), and leave your tequila at home.

Yes, Black Cactus is expensive, but it's not any worse in that regard than any of the other places in Avalon or Stone Harbor of a similar caliber. No one is suprised by the bill at Jay's or Diving Horse. This isn't supposed to be some cheapo taco cabana bar and I get the impression there's some misplaced expectations among some of the other reviewers. I def think Anthony Bourdain was onto something when he puzzled over the fact that people will happily spend $40 a plate at an Italian restaurant but think that Mexican food--which is every bit as complex and rich in heritage--is supposed to be dirt cheap. Anyway, off my soapbox. :) We were one of only two tables in the place on an early September weeknight evening, which was surprising--I really hope they do better in the summer months so they can stick around. We had excellent and super fresh guacamole, flavorful carnitas, fish tacos, and a very interesting and rich chocolate dessert. The drink menu was also varied and nicely done. I enjoyed the Bootsy Collins which had a nice zip and was not overly sweet, and my partner splurged on the El Jefe margarita--very smooth! The only "miss" in my book was the queso. BC's queso is a very light, runny version with no tomatoes, onions, chili, etc. that seemed intentionally aerated. The flavor wasn't bad, but I'd skip that next time as it didn't really scratch the queso "itch" and would likely work better as a sauce over something else. Service was perfectly attentive and the decor is cool. Definitely a welcome, different vibe.

You have the option to sit inside or outside. I went twice within my weekend visit because it was so good!

cute neighbors spot with great mexican food!…read more my friend and i made a reservation for 8p on cinco de mayo -- we did not realize it was cinco de mayo until we were on our way over to the restaurant, and it was crazy packed. even with a reservation, we had to wait for a table. we were seated outside initially, despite our reservation for an inside table. we did request to move inside since it was cold and windy outside, and our waiter jose told us it would take 20 more minutes. we were at the restaurant for over an hour by the time we were finally seated inside. once inside, our orders were quickly taken, and the food came out quickly. at that point, we were starving -- coming here on cinco de mayo was a mistake. the food here is excellent. the tacos al pastor were some of the best tacos i've had. the pork was so juicy and flavorful. the drinks (horchata & jamaica) were also packed with flavor and tasted incredibly authentic. the elote was delicious as well, and i enjoyed how much pulpo/octopus was on the menu. there were so many other things i wanted to try! our waiter jose was also very sweet. he apologized for the delay in getting seated, and you could tell they were working really hard to get through the rush. i would not come back on cinco de mayo, but i would definitely recommend this spot for a casual dinner.

It's pretty deep in South Philly, definitely off the beaten path. For as much press as it's been getting recently, it wasn't too busy (it was a week night) in hte restaurant. There is a decent bit of seating without feeling crammed, and the ambience is on theme with the cuisine. They are BYOB, so I brought a mocktail for us to enjoy with our meals. Service was solid - our server gave us good advice on the menu. We started off with the guac, which was delightful. I particularly enjoyed the inclusion of charred serranos alongside the avos, and the homemade chips were the perfect vehicle for the dip. We split the spicy Camohtli, which wasn't too spicy and with perfectly crispy potatoes. The seasoning fit the dish nicely. I'm not an overall potato lover, but this was a unexpected tasty dish. We lastly split a special for the night, tacos with squash, corn, and pomegranate seeds. I was disappointed in the number of vegetarian tacos, but I was glad that this one was on special. I liked all the ingredients separately, and together on the taco, they went together well enough, but something was missing. Perhaps another spice or sauce? That would have taken this dish over the top! Prices at El Mictlan were quite reasonable, and the BYOB nature certainly helps a lot too. I was overall pleased with my meal there, but I would be intrigued to try other menu options (I am not vegetarian, so would like to try other taco offerings) to understand all the recent hype!

The tacos are an incredible deal -- four for just $15-- full of flavor and perfectly portioned. The appetizers were reasonably priced and packed with taste, chips and salsa come to table when dinning in, and to top it off, the staff surprised us with a few sweet treats for the table as a thank-you gesture -- such a thoughtful touch that meant so much to our team. There's plenty of seating and space for groups, making it a great spot for family dinners, team outings, or celebrations. The staff was warm, attentive, and genuinely happy to have us there.
