We were looking for a great Mexican restaurant in Egg Harbor Township and Yelp led us to Tacos El Tio. There were several Mexican restaurants to choose from and many had great Yelp reviews. After careful consideration .... Tacos El Tio was our pick and so glad it was! What a gem. And they have a full liquor license with tons of great drinks, especially if you're looking for a margarita! I opted for a nice Mandarin Jarritos soda -- i was just in the mood. They also have screens with sporting events on + an area with a full bar to hang. They have booths and areas for large tables too - so it's great for the whole family or a nice date night. My husband loved his steak fajitas and could not stop raving about them. He loved them! I ordered the chicken fajita enchilada..and it was ginormous - - you could make two meals out of it! Sorry I dont have more photos - - we were hungry! :) And I cannot forget our awesome server, Jose! A fun time at Egg Harbor's second-best Mexican restaurant. If you look at Yelp, you'll see there's another Mexican restaurant that has a slightly better rating than Tacos El Tio. HOWEVER, that other place is BYOB, and if you want to have an alcoholic beverage, for example, a margarita, you'll need to bring your own tequila. Tacos El Tio is a full-service Mexican restaurant that offers well-crafted beverages alongside delicious food. Now, to the specifics... TET has lots of parking. The inside is large, clean, and offers plenty of comfortable seating. You might prefer a table or booth that's on the far side of the dining room, well away from the bar area with its speakers and any loud conversations. Our server, Julie, was attentive, efficient, and delightful. They offer a range of margaritas, from specialty concoctions to their margaritas-on-tap. The on-tap version is about half the cost of the concocted version and, in my opinion, a far better value. As for food, all we tried, all we had to try, was their Los Nachos El Tio. That was a plate, heaped high with corn tortillas, layered with nacho stuff, along with generous portions of beef, chicken, and chorizo. And, unlike the nachos offered by some places, the good stuff wasn't merely a topping; it was interspersed with chips from top to bottom. And it was enough that even though we started off hungry, and even though it was delicious, my wife and I couldn't finish it. The only thing we'll do at our next visit is leave out the chorizo; it was our least favorite of the three proteins. TLDR: Sit somewhere far from the bar, get the least expensive margaritas, order the nachos (maybe without the chorizo), and leave your tequila at home. read more

Most stars for good service. I visited with a bunch of coworkers. I'd ordered a margarita at the bar with spicy tequila, but didn't like it as it was on the sweet side. I ordered another once at the table, explaining I didn't want the margarita so sweet. I was brought a "skinny margarita" which was sweeter than the original one I ordered. The waiter listened to my concerns and finally brought back a spicy margarita from the menu that was pretty good. Kudos to him. Otherwise, I ordered steak tacos and I was pretty underwhelmed by them, they didn't seem seasoned. I'd stolen a shrimp from a coworker who had fajitas and those were seasoned so well. Wonder why the steak didn't receive the same treatment. Plus the chips that came with the salsa were almost too small to really scoop any salsa at all. read more

We tried out this taco restaurant located across the street from a kids' amusement park called story book. The restaurant was pretty big and served a variety of Mexican food to its patrons. The highlight of my visit was the service. Our waitress Remaya was friendly, attentive, and offered great suggestions along with excellent customer service. We ordered a mix of items, including guacamole, three tacos, a steak fajita, and drinks. Our dinner was pretty good overall, but the best parts of the meal were the mahi-mahi fish tacos and the steak fajita, they were both delicious. The place had nice décor, good vibes, and friendly people. The restaurant was full and had great energy. I would consider trying it again when I am in this part of New Jersey. Convenient parking lot. Popular place and there's a reason for it. Mexican food is awesome. I recommend the chicken leg tacos and a strawberry margarita. Get there early as the place fills up and parking is limited. Definitely a recommended spot. Very busy on the weekends and in the summer. You could sit at the bar or you could sit at one of the tables. Noise level is a little loud, but you can still talk. Atmosphere is great servers are on the ball. Price is reasonable for the quality of food. Take out available or by food service delivery. 10 minutes from my house, I go often. Made the mistake of coming here for family occasions, birthdays etc.. food was nasty every single time I have went which was 3 total. Recently I came and didn't like my food, I asked if I can switch my order and the manager told me no because "they have no use for it after I have already tasted it" lol I told her I'm willing to pay obviously but I refuse to eat and pay for something I don't like. They told me I should have read the ingredients better. I was in AC for a weekend and decided to try this restaurant with my boyfriend I do highly recommend , the food was great, the atmosphere is nice, the waiter was friendly, and mostly the alcohol drinks!!!! And, so it was time for a post-Covid update ... there are always cars parked in the lot so unless they all belong to employees (They do have an over abundance of employees but it was early and it was Friday.) something good must be happening inside. And, truth be told something good is happening inside and this time they provided us with a table, chairs and a knife and fork plus napkins (Ok, the spoon was missing and needed during the meal ... keep on reading.). A warm friendly welcome ... attentive service and we were close enough to the big screen TV showing soccer (aka football in most of the world) that I made a couple of kick-out moves trying to make a save. The menu is rather simple compared to many Mexican restaurants and they are definitely appealing to mainstream diners with a focus on taco options. There are no regional nor intriguing choices ... Holy Moly no mole to be found anywhere. Nothing to write home about when considering the very thin liquid consistency of the salsas that came with the prerequisite basket of fried tortilla chips (Slightly overdone but still good.). I like a salsa that sticks to the chips rather than just leaving a wet spot like these two did. They also are very concerned with keeping it mild. When I asked about an item marked with a hot pepper I was told "do not worry it is a 3 or 4 on a scale of 10." But, I wanted some HEAT ... I asked for hot sauce and was presented with a commonly available habanero sauce but before handing it to me the waiter warned "don't put too much on it is very hot." I looked at him as if he had just said "gringo, your type can't handle Mexican heat!" I merely replied that this hot sauce would be the mildest in my vast collection of hot sauces at home and proceeded to pour a thick line of sauce down my enchiladas. Although there is no heat there is plenty of flavor. Our choices were enchiladas in a green sauce, tacos El pastor and a chicken burrito. The chicken in the enchiladas had that very distinguishable and traditional 'Chicken Tikka' flavor. The El Pastor flavors were tasty and each burrito bite was delicious. Liquidy is not limited to the salsas, the refried beans that accompanied my enchiladas were more like sopa de frijoles than beans. The liquid dripped through my fork. So, I asked for a spoon and they presented me with a BIG SPOON (You know what I'm talking about, the spoons that sit in your utensil drawer next to the cereal spoons that you primarily use to stir stuff. The spoon end it's just really big and you have to open your mouth wide to put it in.) but I didn't complain and I used it to finish every little speck of the very tasty refried bean liquid. The four stars well when food tastes really good, is served quickly by attentive staff, and it's properly heated I think credit should be given. I will admit this was probably more of a three and a half star than a four star restaurant because of the comments about heat, the lack of heat on the menu, and the spoon situation. My daughter really likes the place so here's my updated review jumping from a 1 to a 4. They won't replace any of my top Mexican restaurant options but it's nice to know that they now welcome me to come and eat at a table. read more

MDF ordered their skirt steak which I tried it was one of the best I have eaten the chimichurri that it was sauced with was outstanding. I ordered a bowl of posole, with pork and it was good to the last drop, lip smacking good, I also had lengue tacos and they were fresh tasting, and nicely seasoned. When I went out with my friends to get food at a different Mexican restaurant, they kept bragging how much better Tacos El Tio was. So, I knew that I needed to try it out for myself when I was in the area! We called in our order and it was ready for pickup within 15 mins. We got the guacamole (came with tortilla chips), veggie picadillo chimichanga, quesadillas, and chorizo black bean potato & poblano burrito. The guacamole was such a large portion that the 3 of us couldn't finish it in one go but it was so fresh and DELICIOUS -- definitely the best guac that I've ever had. My friends enjoyed their chimichanga and quesadillas and said that they were very tasty. My chorizo burrito was SO SO GOOD. I didn't expect much when I was ordering it, but there was such a good combination of flavors and spices all within the single burrito. I HIGHLY recommend coming out here!! read more

Always a great experience! I love this place. It's been a while since I have eaten here. I was meeting friends from the area and wanted a change from our usual spot. Our waiter was great. I love when you're chatting before even picking up the menu, and the waiter is patient and not pushy. Once we made our choices, we were back to chatting. Our food came out quickly and we all enjoyed our choices. I enjoyed the mahi mahi tacos. The fish was perfectly grilled and the slaw was delicious!! The flavors were well balanced. The service is ok. I am not a fan of the younger servers and hosts. The food is ok, it is just a little expensive for me. The setting of the restaurant is nice. I might be biased because I love Mexican food from the Border towns and Texas in general. I have a couple go to restaurants around here that really like.
