I wish all dentists were as friendly, transparent, and helpful as Dr. Temlock! I went for a consultation on two potential implants, and he gave me a wealth of information to help me decide what was best for me. He never came close to pressuring me into a decision, but was happy to offer a recommendation when I asked (and gave tons of reasoning to justify his recommendation). For me, the biggest downside of getting two implants was the expense. My current insurance was about to switch, and I was dreading comparing the cost of the procedure with my current insurance vs. my future insurance. Dr. Temlock and his awesome staff navigated my confusing situation perfectly, and found that I would save a huge chunk of change by having the procedure done sooner rather than later (they even printed out the two estimates so I could compare side by side). Unfortunately, Dr. Temlock was booked through the end of the month, when my newer, more expensive insurance would kick in. Rather than saying "sorry" and sending me on, he offered to stay late and do the procedure right then, even though it was already past 5pm. The procedure was great and painless and went off without a hitch. Tldr: Dr. Temlock is a friendly, no-pressure guy who goes above and beyond to give you a great dental experience. read more

Dr. Temlock and his team are wonderful. I had two gum grafts done on my bottom front teeth. The procedure went flawlessly and he even got coverage on the neighboring two teeth, which is impressive since other docs wanted to charge me more for those teeth. In fact, I'd seen two other specialists prior to him and he was easily the most direct and honest of the three (and ultimately the cheapest after all was said and done). Dr. Temlock himself is a joy - I appreciated his clear expertise just as much as his humor and warmth. I genuinely looked forward to seeing him! His team is thorough and kind. They worked with me to split the procedure between 2019 and 2020 to maximize my insurance payout and were flexible with me about the procedure rather than trying to gauge me on the price like a prior specialist I saw (and I don't say that lightly... I actually have full proof the other office was giving me inflated pricing info). Dr. Temlock's team also took a small suggestion I had to improve patient experience with open ears. I went to see Dr. Temlock for a tooth implant. I initially found him on yelp after my insurance provided me a list of in network doctors. I live on the Peninsula but none of the doctors in the area were highly recommended on Yelp. My experience from the beginning with his team was excellent. His entire team was very helpful, professional and welcoming. My tooth implant with Dr. Temlock was painless,. He explained the procedure in detail and made me feel comfortable. After going thru this procedure, I would say Dr. Temlock did an excellent job with my tooth implant. I would highly recommend Dr. Temlock and his team if you need an implant done. This is like the Disneyland of dentistry. I contacted the office for an appointment after many years of living in pain and fear due to my super messed up mouth. Dr. Temlock's assistant Shirley got me in right away. The office is very welcoming (fancy but not snobby), easy to get to when you're hurting (right off the Bart), and the staff is incredibly kind. I had to get x-rays and their machines are top notch. I was embarrassed at the condition of my teeth and Dr. Temlock made me feel totally at ease (he jokes a lot but is super talented, basically a tooth wizard). Given the severity of my infection, they scheduled my surgery within a few days (four extractions: one sitting on my sinus, two wisdom teeth, and one molar plus two bone grafts). I came into the office on surgery day, they gave me some meds right away, set me up in what equates to a spa chair with Netflix (with a g-damn blanket, on top of it!), and let me relax, administering sedatives slowly until I was ready for surgery. I woke up a few hours later? With minimal pain and a solid plan to get me to 100 percent in a few weeks. I just went in to get my stitches removed and feel like a whole new person. It's not going to be cheap (because good dentistry in this country is just not that affordable) but it's going to be worth it, and Dr. Temlock's office will be very transparent about costs. I trust this dental team wholeheartedly and hope to return soon for implants. P.S. Dr. Temlock is pretty much 50 percent Uncle Joey from Full House and 50 percent Bradley Cooper (not when he played the drunk in that Lady Gaga movie but the other times). I went to Dr Temlock with serious teeth issues-I had to have3 5 teeth removed, as well as gum and bone graft. I was extremely nervous and anxious about this appointment. Dr Temlock was incredible through the process. We discussed my fears and he walked me through the entire scenario and answered all of my questions and concerns. I had everything done all in one appointment. I had taken couple of valium one hour prior and had someone drive me to/from. Everything went well, and the most amazing part was that I did not need any pain medication after first night. I was fine with ibuprofen as my gum/teeth healed. Both of my teen daughters have genetically missing teeth on top. My eldest has been wearing braces for 4 years, as we have been waiting until she is old enough for implants. After my excellent experience with Dr Temlock, we went to him to get started/evaluated for implant surgery for her. Our insurance doesn't cover any of her implant surgery, as it is "pre existing condition". Dr Temlock gave us a discounted cost in order for us to be able to afford this surgery for her. Her upcoming appointment is in August, but I am confident it will be non- painful and a big success. My youngest teen daughter is now getting braces on, and needed 4 baby teeth pulled, I immediately called Dr Temlocks office, and they had appointment available on very short notice. We went in on Friday July 7. She was extremely nervous, but Dr Temlock put her at ease. It was quick and pretty painless-she has not even taken ibuprofen/tylenol combo he recommended post appointment! He did give her puff of nitrus gas, as she was really anxious about the procedure with my permission. The office is modern and clean. The staff at this office are warm and caring! I went years as a heavy smoker and no dental insurance. There was a lot of crowding in my front lower teeth as well. After all this time of neglect, it started to get real. I also have a pretty big fear of dental work, which only led to me putting off the inevitable for longer. Eventually I called in. I talked first to Shirley, who I told about my anxiety of coming in. She was very reassuring and did a lot to put me at ease. I still didn't believe her though. When the time came for me to come in and meet Dr. Temlock, he spent quite a while talking to me and making me feel better about everything. After him doing his poking around in my mouth thing for a big and going over my x-rays, he quickly formulated a plan for us to move forward. There was significant bone loss on my gum line and some teeth were just in bad shape. They outlined everything that would be happening to me, the timeline, the cost, everything. Something came up as we got closer to the date, and we needed to move the surgery forward due to one of my teeth trying to come out on its own. Shirley once again came up to bat and helped me get scheduled to come in early and have everything done. My follow-up appointments have been amazing, recovery seems to be going right on schedule. I usually would leave a review like this until all my treatments were finished, but wanted to put this out there sooner, especially if it were to help someone who has fear of dental work like I do. There are other professionals in his office that I've met, but unfortunately cannot remember their names. Oral surgery is not my idea of a good time. But if you have to do it, this place is as good as it gets. All of the staff are genuinely friendly and helpful. Dr. Temlock sets the friendly tone and is professional at the same time. The team does a great job in preparing you for what will happen, making sure you are as comfortable as possible while undergoing the procedure, informing you of what you can expect in the days following the procedure, and then following up to make sure everything is going as expected. If it wasn't for all the other similar reviews, I'd attribute the excellent treatment to my exceptionally magnetic personality ;-). I'd have to say that this office should be the model for how to run any medical office. I had a couple of gum grafts done here, and I have no complaints. It's not a particularly pleasant procedure no matter where you do it, but everything went smoothly and my results look good so far. Dr. Temlock and Shirley went out of their way to make sure I knew they were available if any issues came up. None did, but it was good to know they were there to help through the recovery process if needed. The numbing shots were the most painful part of the procedure itself, and the prescribed medication made things tolerable once those wore off. I'd say a couple weeks of eating soft foods is worth keeping the affected teeth healthy, so I'm glad I went through with it. read more

I had consultations with three separate periodontists before deciding to have my soft tissue (gum) graft with Dr. Temlock. I'm a 6'3" grown man... but I was anxious about this procedure. I made the right choice! This practice is second to none. Dr. Temlock is the best. He explained my options carefully and made sure I was comfortable with all the details. The procedure itself was an absolute breeze, despite my anxiety. After I expressed my worries, Dr. Temlock recommended "conscious sedation," which included some pre-surgery anxiety medication and oral sedatives once I was in the office. Though I was awake, I wasn't aware of all the action. Amazingly, I had nearly NO pain in recovery. I just returned for my post-op, where I heard the (large) graft took very well. Nice, Dr. Temlock! Dr. Temlock's staff is incredible: * Shirley is amazing. She made sure I understood each and every cost and how my insurance would handle it. When I needed a prescription refill and insurance gave me a hard time, she sorted it out in minutes. She checked in via text and email shortly after the procedure and again the following weekend, and thoroughly answered a number of questions I had about the healing process. When my bus broke down on the way to my post-op, Shirley quickly got in touch and rescheduled me for 30min later so I wouldn't have to make the trip back to the office later in the week. I felt like I was in great, capable hands throughout. * Robin is amazing. She took care of all my scheduling and appointment reminders perfectly. She made sure every visit was convenient and well-explained. Robin also pinch hit while others were out of town. I had what ended up just being food stuck around the surgical site, but emailed a description just to be sure. I found Dr. Temlock on Yelp and went to see him for a second opinion before ultimately getting a frenectomy and gum graft. As soon as I had my consultation, I knew that I made the right decision to have the procedure performed by Dr. Temlock. He explained his analysis and recommendation in plain English and I never felt obligated or pressured in any way (unlike the first doctor I saw at a difference practice). I left the consultation with pre-authorization from my insurance indicating the exact cost I would incur (also unlike the first doctor). The cost for the procedure was much less than what I was quoted at the first periodontist I saw. The procedure itself was pretty quick and painless with local anesthesia and a sedative pill. Dr. Temlock strikes the ideal balance of friendliness and professionalism that you want in someone performing surgery on you. He's the type of guy you could grab a beer with yet is clearly knowledgeable in his field of expertise. During the procedure, he explained what he was doing every step of the way and played music to distract my mind. Although the surgery felt like the biggest deal in the world to me, the way that Dr. Temlock talked about it made me feel like he could do it in his sleep. All of this really put my nerves at ease! His staff of assistants and receptionists were all friendly and helpful with my questions as well. I recently moved to the city and needed a periodontist for maintenance and cleanings. The Yelp reviews persuaded me to try this office and I was not disappointed. Shirley deserves her Yelp reputation! She is a complete gem--kind, friendly, and efficient! She sent all the paperwork ahead of time electronically, which I really appreciate. She confirmed my insurance would be accepted and was able to get me in sooner than I thought for my consultation and cleaning. Ruby, my hygienist, was equally as competent. She provided an excellent cleaning and listened to me when I told her I had really sensitive teeth, applying a desensitizing gel and even changing the water she used so it wasn't too cold; what a true professional!! Alec is an amazing periodontist, and an even better person. I have had unfortunate dental luck and have needed crown lengthening, 3 implants and bone grafting - I went to Alec for all of those events because he kicks butt at what he does! I have a very low pain tolerance and he makes sure I am always comfortable and even puts on my favorite music to make me relax :) I contracted Ludwig's Angina (an rare, awful mouth infection) and ended up getting emergency surgery in the hospital. He found out about the surgery the day of and visited me before surgery (in the hospital!) He also checked up on me countless times after surgery. What a breeze!! That's not usually how folks describe dental work, but with Dr. Temlock and Shirley, it's possible to actually enjoy having teeth pulled. I went to Dr. Temlock to have my upper wisdom teeth removed and it was a very easy experience. After a little hemming and hawing (and lots of patience from the team providing me info) I decided to go with sedation. For me, I just didn't want to stress, and having had a fair amount of work done on teeth in the back of my mouth, I know that I usually end up with a sore jaw from tension. I'm pretty sure I slept through most of my appointment and don't remember any pain. After a foggy lyft ride home (the office makes sure to get your escort sorted out before the appointment, so there was nothing to worry about day of), a solid nap and a couple rounds of ice packs, I was basically back to normal with minimal swelling. Let me start by saying, I am NOT a good patient. I don't like having dental work done and was extremely anxious about my procedure. I went in to see Dr. Temlock because I needed a skin graft over the gums of one of my teeth that was starting to have so much regression the root was showing. First, he laid out three options: 1. using skin from the roof of my mouth, 2. using skin from a cadaver's mouth (no way), or 3. using stem cells. In my case, stem cells alone weren't an option because my gum regression was too big. Alec suggested I use skin from my own mouth, but he noted that if I used stem cells in addition, the healing process would be much faster and less painful. I took his advice and did both. My insurance fully covered the graft and we paid out-of-pocket for the stem cells--some of the best money I have ever spent. I felt nothing during the surgery. After, I had already had a roof guard made to protect the roof of my mouth. I put it in as soon as the anesthesia wore off. I took the prescribed pain meds right away, though I opted to skip intense pain killers for a prescription strength Tylenol. I followed Dr. Temlock's instructions exactly. Day 2, I still felt no pain. When the dental office called in, I said I wanted to stop taking the pain meds, and they suggested I keep taking them to prevent inflammation of my gums, so I did. Day 3, 4, and 5... I waited for the pain. Literally, I had NO PAIN. When I went back for a follow-up, Dr. Hemlock attributed this to the stem cells and the fast healing--a week in, my graft was already generating new gum tissue, along with the stem cells. Alec is my hero! His procedure and the after-effects caused no pain. He was available by phone day or night if I had any questions or concerns. I am happy to return to him again if needed, and would give him the highest recommendation. If you have a similar procedure--get the stem cells in addition--I know it made the difference for me! I know of patients who had similar treatments and had a much longer recovery time and much more pain--the stem cells worked miracles along with Dr. Temlock's amazing surgical skills! read more

Dr Temlock is amazing. I was his last appointment on a Tuesday afternoon - for a tooth infection, beyond saving. I had sepsis by the time I got to him and he stayed that day to perform an emergency extraction, which prevented the sepsis to go further. This wasn't my first extraction unfortunately but it went smoothly, and I had no pain afterwards (the real issue was for me to get over the infection that had traveled to my blood stream). We then started the reconstructive part - bone graft (2) + sinus lift + implant. It was done with the utmost care. he is a talented and skilled periodontist. Again, no pain (didn't even need motrin - which was a blessing since the pharmacist forgot to include it in my goodie bag) and very little recovery time; I was back at work the next day. I know my current dental situation will require more of the above - I will go back to Dr Temlock without hesitating! read more

First off, the staff at San Francisco Periodontics and Implant Dentistry is wonderful! Very professional and accommodating. I met with Dr. Temlock for a deep cleaning consultation on 8/11/20. I've had wonderful dental experiences as a child but very bad experiences as an adult. Because of this, I've developed an enhanced fear of seeing the dentist, so much so my heart begins to palpitate, and my body temperature rises during appointments. I explained my dental fears and concerns and within minutes Dr. Temlock made me feel relaxed and comfortable enough to ease my nerves. He took a good amount of time thoroughly talking me through the consultation process, showed me the tool he was going to use, provided an educational breakdown of present and potentially future treatment and ensured me we will take care of matters one step at a time. Dr. Temlock was not only patient with me but he did this while being extremely sensitive towards easing my fears. I would recommend seeing Dr. Temlock for those of you who experience dental fears the way I do. I will do a follow-up review after the deep cleaning for additional insight. read more

The whole practice literally saved me from my excruciating pain. I called on a Saturday and Dr. Temlock agreed to see me first thing Monday morning. Shirley was so prompt, compassionate and helpful walking me through the process. I hate the dentist and am petrified of oral surgery, but Dr. Temlock made me so comfortable. They understood my anxiety with the visit and immediately made me feel relaxed and confident all would be fine. From the worst day to the best day... Sunday night: woke up to a throbbing tooth ache that wouldn't quit. I couldn't fall back asleep and no matter what I tried to do--I couldn't escape this pain. I'm terrified of needles, drills, et.al, so I knew this would be a terrible 24 hours.... ...until I contact Dr. Temlock. His office was able to see me on an emergency basis the next morning at 8am! When I arrived, we had a consultation and Dr. T explained my situation, my options and how the process works. They also reviewed everything with my insurance plan so there weren't any surprises. The procedure went better than expected. Dr. T explained everything as it was happening, constantly asking how I was feeling knowing I was terrified of the drills. He had a great balance of comfort/humour, making the procedure as painless as possible. ...but the best part was the next day. He called me personally to make sure everything felt good and that my recovery was going well. The fact that he called personally was a great touch. You don't see that much these days. Overall, it was the best experience I could ask for based on the situation. The facility was clean and modern, the staff was very comforting, and Dr. Temlock was better than anything I could have asked for. During the consultation, Dr. Temlock thoroughly explained the procedures and took into account my insurance constraints. While performing the procedures, Dr. Temlock explained what he was doing and checked in to see if I was ok. Before I knew it, I was out of his chair. I had a tooth extraction and two lots of bone rejuvenation on both sides of my mouth, all at the same time which was an awful lot of work! However, Dr. Temlock and his staff couldn't have looked after me better and made the ordeal as pain free as possible (not that that was possible lol). I first met Dr. Alec Temlock about a month and a half ago and within that time I have had my consultation, my impressions for the protective retainer I would wear after my surgery, my surgery to get my gum graft and my follow up appointment to let me know everything is looking wonderful and healing as it should be. I was relatively nervous to have this procedure done and I am so grateful that the experience didn't drag on for months and months and I can now go on with my life with healthier gums. Dr. Temlock is a wonderful listener and very attentive to his patients. After I had my gum graft surgery I knew I could reach out to him any time of the day and he would respond almost immediately or within a couple of hours. I've never had such immediate access to a doctor before and it was an incredible comfort knowing he would be there to help me in any way possible to ensure this experience was as comfortable as it could be and with as much support as was required. Dr. Temlock is very professional and his office staff are all wonderfully warm and inviting.
