Taking over the same storefront as the former Amish Deli (home of "Bowling Green's Biggest, Baddest BLT"), I had high hopes which were only buoyed by the enthusiastic welcome I received from the smiling staff as I entered the establishment. The nice lady at the order counter apologized and said the grill was having issues during their soft opening, but that did not matter to me, as I already had my eyes on trying one of the 2-dog combos. After quickly reviewing my options, I ordered the Sterling dogs with a side of coleslaw, plus a fountain Coke. Before tax, the total came to $9.98, which was pretty reasonable for lunch downtown. As I made my way to one of the booths, I cast my eye around the dining room, and frankly, I liked what I saw! The new laminate floor looked great, as did the brand new -and spotlessly clean- tables, chairs, and booths. The decorations and wall hangings were tasteful and un-cluttered, and I especially liked how the blue light horse silhouette (visible on far-right side of my dining room photo) conveyed a sense of good-Amish-food-meets-21st-century. After a pleasantly short wait, my order was delivered to my booth. The all-beef dogs were garnished with crispy-cooked bacon, red pepper relish, and shredded cheddar cheese. As you can see in my food photo, they looked great, and tasted even better! The side of coleslaw was also very good, which kind of surprised me, as I expected it to be overpowered by the clearly visible chunks of red onion, but the flavours melded together perfectly. I also liked how the staff stopped by my table to ask how the food was, and how speedy and friendly they were any time I took my fountain cup up to the counter for a refill. PROS: very good food, very friendly staff, reasonable prices, and a good atmosphere CONS: for a soft opening, I felt they were great, as I had zero issues! They are generous with the blue cheese dressing. And the celery is real fresh super crisp and cold, not wimpy leftover celery like you get at some places. When someone tells me that their (anything) in the State of Michigan is the best, there really should be a way for the diner to compare said "best" to other places. I do like the rolls. Very much so. But is the sandwich the "best"? I know of at least one place in Detroit that might at least share that claim. I still like the cold sandwiches and deli salads. The desserts are very good. And the burgers are good with a nice selection of toppings. Fries, tots, and chips are all available to order. The staff is very friendly, either in person or on the phone. The restaurant has a LOT of room in the dining area. Although I don't recall ever asking, it may have been two businesses at the same location, and at some point, the floor space was combined. They may not accept very large parties, like a business lunch, but they have the room for this type of gathering.
