Samuel and Lydia of Sully Restoration are such a truly lovely couple, and the entire experience was a pleasure from start to finish. This piece is a deeply cherished family heirloom that has been passed down through generations, from my great-grandfather, grandmother, and parents. It has collected years of wear and tear, and it recently traveled across the country to my current home, suffering significant damage along the way. Honestly, I was heartbroken and worried it might be beyond repair. Samuel brought this piece back to life in a way that feels like magic. The meticulousness and artistry of his work are truly incredible. The restoration plan was complex, and he executed every point with perfect skill. Here is a list of just some of the intricate work that was completed: - Replaced 5 of the 14 broken, "waved" glass windows with perfectly matching period-accurate glass. - Replaced and consolidated the old, damaged glass sealant. - Reinstalled and consolidated the glass frames and rods on the cabinet front. - Re-glued loose veneer, including the topboard of the cabinet. - Grafted the edges of the drawers, adding wood to repair fresh broken, and missing pieces. - Re-glued a broken drawer and consolidated all drawer bottoms, making adjustments and even adding fabric underneath for a smooth, protective finish. - Re-adjusted all drawers so they slide perfectly. - Expertly filled cracks on the drawer fronts, top right, and right side. - Provided a perfectly fitted key for the bottom drawers. - Consolidated the right door, making the frame steady and secure. - Completed a full refinishing of the drawers, including deep cleaning and fixing the discolored bottom two. - Performed a complete cleaning of the existing varnish. - Finished the piece with a gorgeous, hand-applied waxed varnish. The final result is absolutely breathtaking. The cabinet is functional and sturdy again, but most importantly, Samuel brought it back to beautiful while masterfully preserving its deep, authentic patina. It still tells its full history and looks like it belongs in the 19th century, just without the damage. I will cherish it forever. Thank you, Samuel and Lydia! I cannot recommend them highly enough.

Best restorer in the world!…read more If you have art made of porcelain, alabaster, marble, terra cotta, colored glass etc., that needs restoration, you must see "Dinka". She is an artist whose work combines sheer genius with intense passion. Recently, she restored my italian alabaster lady reclining on a bronze bed with elephant posts. Sunlight now flows throw her body as it most surely did 100 years ago. If you love your art and it needs restoration, just go to Dinka's studio.

Aixa is not only a miracle worker but also one of the nicest people I've ever met. When renovating…read moremy mother's home on the Westside after she moved to a nursing home in 2019, a construction worker inexplicably moved and dropped this painting even though I had set it aside with only a few items that I wanted to keep in a room that he wasn't even supposed to go in. Not only was this unique frame from about 1904 badly damaged, but about half of the molding was missing. To say I was upset was an understatement, and I assumed the frame was a lost cause. After finding Aixa on Yelp, I reached out to her in 2019 to see if she could repair the frame, but then life and the pandemic got in the way and nothing got done. I reached out again to Aixa in late 2024, and five years later she still remembered my email and this painting! I brought it to her studio, and she spent close to an hour explaining to me exactly how she would restore the frame step by step. I could immediately tell that she takes immense pride in her craft. I still don't know how she did it, but not only did she figure out where and how the broken pieces of molding fit back together, she also "magically" carved new molding where the sections were missing. Upon careful examination of the frame when I picked it up, not only were there no cracks but I couldn't tell where the broken pieces and her carvings all fit together. Perfectly seamless! I had hoped to only repair the molding, but ultimately Aixa took the frame apart and put it back together because the damage to the joints was worse than it looked. Despite the additional labor, she stood by her original estimate. Lastly, I didn't know this beforehand, but the frame isn't simply painted gold. Instead, to achieve the historical look of the frame, small pieces of gold leaf (you can use real gold leaf, but fake gold leaf looks just as good and is much less expensive) are carefully and methodically applied to the frame. Once again, Aixa's attention to detail and meticulous work is obvious when looking at the before and after photos! Her studio is no longer on the Westside, but totally worth the drive if you have something that you cherish and want to restore.
