Disappointing Experience with HomeShield I wanted to share my experience with HomeShield, as it has been quite disappointing. We initially reached out to them in February last year due to a major rodent problem in our attic. Although things started off promising, the overall outcome fell short of our expectations. From the beginning, the HomeShield estimator appeared knowledgeable and assured us that they would take care of the issue, no matter how long it took. We signed the contract, even opting for attic cleaning once the job was completed. However, the actual execution left much to be desired. Despite identifying a few entry points, the subsequent weeks revealed no progress in rat control. While the nighttime activity ceased, it was evident that the problem persisted. The completion of the job and "attic cleaning" left me unsatisfied, as it seemed like a half-hearted effort. It appeared that Tyler simply vacuumed around the entry point and called it a day. We had to contact HomeShield again after a few weeks due to the same problem. To their credit, they promptly responded and sent a higher-tier inspector to ensure no entry points were overlooked. Although they found and sealed one more hole, the issue still persisted. At that point, HomeShield recommended a smoke test to rule out any pipe-related concerns, but it turned out that our pipes were in good condition. It became apparent that HomeShield's interest in the job waned over time. They started making excuses about how the rats could be finding their way in, leaving us frustrated and without a resolution. As a final attempt, they installed cameras in the attic but never followed up or checked the footage. Months passed with relative quiet, and I refrained from reaching out to HomeShield during that period. However, around four months ago, the activity resurfaced, and I called them again. A technician confirmed the presence of droppings and assured me that an inspector would be sent. Unfortunately, nothing ever happened. More months passed, and now we find ourselves back to square one, experiencing sleepless nights and insulation coming out of the air vents. During my recent call to HomeShield, I expressed my urgent need for assistance. To my dismay, they dismissed my concerns, claiming that the last visit reported no activity (despite the obvious evidence to the contrary). Furthermore, they stated that since we have surpassed the one-year mark, a new quote would be required for any further action. All they offered was to send someone to pick up the traps and cameras. Overall, I am deeply disappointed with my experience with HomeShield. The lack of results and the apparent indifference toward resolving the issue have left me feeling like I wasted a significant amount of money. Regrettably, I cannot recommend HomeShield to anyone in a similar situation. Following my initial review, HomeShield reached out to me and expressed their desire to address my concerns. "D" scheduled a follow-up visit and came to my house. He was courteous, knowledgeable, and empathetic, acknowledging the frustration I had experienced. He admitted that HomeShield had dropped the ball and apologized for the inconvenience. During his inspection of the attic, he discovered that all four traps had caught rats, and he also located the camera that had been left behind. D diligently searched for additional entry points around the house and found two more. He assured me that he would personally handle my case and ensure that everything was properly resolved. Feeling heard and understood, I agreed to deactivate my review as promised. A few days later, I contacted HomeShield again and requested someone to come and set up new traps. They promptly sent a team who took care of the newly discovered entry points and installed fresh traps. However, it became apparent that HomeShield's interest and dedication started to wane. There was a lack of follow-up, and when I reached out to D to report a suspected catch, he seemed preoccupied and frequently engaged in phone conversations with his boss. HomeShield attempted to push me into signing a new contract, even though the initial problem had not been fully resolved. I expressed my reluctance to enter into any new agreement until the existing issue was addressed. During a conversation with the manager, he conveyed that HomeShield had already gone above and beyond their usual service frequency. He suggested that they could only make a couple more visits, claiming that resolving the rat issue entirely was unlikely. This contradicted the promises made during our initial engagement. In the end, HomeShield slipped a new contract under my door and failed to show up for the agreed-upon visits. When I reached out to D expressing my disappointment, he did not respond. My experience with Home Shield was incredibly disappointing. Throughout the process, it became evident that communication and customer service were not priorities for this company. It typically took about a week or more to receive any form of response, leading to frustrating delays and misunderstandings.The lack of communication resulted in incorrect information being provided to us, particularly regarding the duration of time we needed to vacate our home. This misinformation cost us hundreds of dollars in housing expenses and lost wages, as we were unable to attend work while awaiting the gas company and Home Shield to remove the tenting on our property. While they eventually reimbursed us for the housing costs, the inconvenience and financial strain endured were substantial. What compounded the frustration was the absence of a consistent communication protocol within the company. Despite handling all communication with the representative assisting us, as well as managing payments and contract signings, contacting the main office proved futile. Also despite the fact that the main office had been communicating with me via email and text throughout the process, they claimed they were not authorized to speak with me over the phone directly because I was not the owner of the home. Their policies are not clear. The company's inconsistency and lack of cohesion in communication procedures leave me hesitant to recommend their services to anyone. My experience with Home Shield has been so poor that I have no intention of conducting any further business with them in the future. What initially prompted me to make my decision was the fact that they are eco-friendly, pet friendly (my cat has a compromised immune system), and every single one of their reviews were all positive. That in itself speaks volumes. From the initial phone call with Emily D. to set up my appointment to my service technician Carlos J., it was like a huge weight had been lifted. Carlos J. was so patient and kind, and answered all of my questions and addressed every one of my concerns. He genuinely cares about what he does and the people he services. He literally took the time to explain to me and educate me on the type of ant I was dealing with and if there is a problem down the road, he'll be back. He didn't miss a spot of the outside and inside. He didn't act like I was crazy or that I just had to live with this. I don't feel so alone anymore. I would recommend HS to anyone, especially if you feel you have nowhere to turn! It's incredibly easy to schedule an inspection with them, even during these crazy times when it seems like all vendors are weeks out, they try to work with you and your clients' schedules and their turn around time for reports is rather quick. The past few inspections we have had Chase Berry who has always been ON time/punctual, professional, polite and explained the process as well as his findings in a way that was easy to understand. He was very thorough in his explanations and his recommendations and didn't try to upsell you. Rather, he wanted to make sure that you and your clients are provided with all options and really emphasized on any safety/health concerns as well which I really appreciated. Pricing for them is also very reasonable compared to other companies and what's great is that they not only do termite remediation, but also pest control as a whole, which working with some major termite companies, they only focus on termite. I would definitely recommend this company if you are looking for termite-pest control services, and HIGHLY recommend asking for Chase. The technicians are very respectful of your privacy and space. They call you before they come to your door, to make sure you are ok with them coming into your home. They are super knowledgeable and patient. When I bought my house, there were termite bait stations in my yard that my technician, Alex A., was kind enough to explain how they work and what type of termites they are for. I knew that they were for pest control, but I had no idea how they worked or what type of pest. Unfortunately they do not offer that particular service, but the fact that he took the time to explain to me and went the extra mile to call and find out if they offered the service, speaks volumes of his dedication. He's professional, efficient, takes care of any issues immediately and is always responsive through emails to any questions or concerns. So my first impression was a great one! We have given them several properties to treat and their technicians are amazing! Justin, who is treating my daughter's house as well, is outstanding and extremely knowledgeable! He will answer any questions you have and will describe what to expect after the treatment is completed so that you are fully informed.
