We used Dante Restorations to repair a ceramic statue that had been damaged in shipping. The statue is complicated (see photo) and the damage was pretty severe. Marco did an amazing job -- we literally cannot see where cracks and broken pieces were. The statue has complicated glazing, including some with a motif, and this also came out perfectly. My experience with Marco at Dante Restorations was superb. I brought a broken figurine to him...a foot-tall elegant reindeer whose antlers, legs and stand had separated from the torso. I would highly recommend Marco's services at Dante Restoration. The head came off a beloved tau-tau whose wood was in a fragile condition. He did an excellent job of carefully getting the head back on using a dowel to provide better stability. In addition, he reinforced the hands when he noticed they were unsteady and built up the wood block on which the tau-tau sits to eliminate the wobbliness of the stand. He did all this without damaging any of the already fragile wood. I'm very happy with the resulting work. read more

I own a moving company and one of our employees had a little mishap with one of our customer's sculptures. I went to their house to assess it and didn't think there was anyway to repair it, especially to their satisfaction. Lo and behold I was referred to Marcos by another restoration company I had found through a Google search and they spoke very highly about his work. Their employee who did similar work had recently passed away. I gave Marcos a really tough job! (it's Dante restorations so it's tempting to think his name is Dante, but it's Marcos). I gave him two Royal Worcester Horses (made of china) which had arrived in the mail broken. The larger of the two horses had absolutely catastrophic damage - my boyfriend said I should just throw it away. But these are special pieces, so I got a few estimates for fixing them - Marcos' estimate was very reasonable, and I took them to him. Marcos was true to his word on the price, and the horses came home looking like new! He communicated well, and they didn't take long at all. Happy to say they're back in action. See pictures! I brought a small sculpture in that I cherished, that had fallen to the floor..The head of the sculpture was broken completely off. I was devastated ..I looked on yelp to try and find someone who could heal my beloved sculpture. Dante Restorations had glowing reviews! So I made an appt and carried my little sculpture to the shop. Besides being a lovely person, Marcos is an incredibly trained professional who worked with a well-known restorer for a long time until he opened his own business. I didn't know this when I first called him and when i saw what he was doing and he told me his background, it seemed to me he was too modest. I had a 19th Century Emaux de Longwy vase get smashed into pieces by UPS and he put it together for a very reasonable price. I was so relieved that it could be saved. He also restored an oil painting from the 1930s. There were terrible black streaks of tar or mildew (who knows) and areas of paint loss. I had already tried two professional cleaning solutions to no avail. He said it was "a job for the ages" and it took him quite a bit of research to find a solution that would work. The painting is gorgeously restored, the colors are vibrant, and there was no paint loss. He is going to get all my restoration projects going forward. We were referred to Marcos by an auction house where we purchased an oil painting for cleaning. When we spoke to him we discovered that he previously worked for a restorer we used a long time ago. That gave us reassurance that we had found the right person. The painting was beautifully cleaned. We were so grateful that we finally found someone to work on repairs and restoration we wanted to have done. We later had a tri-fold screen repaired, a chipped Roseville floor urn and a broken, small German mustard pot. All repairs and restorations were done so well that the repairs were unnoticeable. Wish I could give Marcos at Dante six stars! Most recently he repaired a 1930's French art deco dining chair. My puppy chewed on one of the legs. Marcos restored the damage perfectly, including the high-gloss lacquer finish. Previously he has restored the patina on a bronze sculpture and refinished the top of an antique mahogany table for me. In every case his work has been perfect and his charges very reasonable. Marcos is an artist, and a nice guy as well. read more

We had several items needing some restorative care. The search for someone was exhausting as the items were in different categories: a rocking chair needing wood repair and the seat re-upholstered and a 50's Western themed ashtray of a horse and rider and a Western themed lamp of a horse and rider, both made of cast iron. The chair was restored when others said it couldn't be and the two cast iron items were repaired satisfactorily - even the ashtray which took artistry as well as the ability to put it back together. Cast iron is a difficult material to repair and yet Marcos was able to do so. I guess the bottom line of this review is that if you have one or several household items you cherish that need repair when they fit into different specialties, Marcos can do them all. And above that, he is a wonderful guy to do business with and is open to your input. Yes, of course, I recommend him. read more

I have used Dante Restorations twice over the past several years to repair figurines I brought back with me from Japan. The first piece, a sumo wrestler, had the head broken off during a move and Marcos was not only able to make a perfect repair of him, but to also tell me a little bit about my piece that I didn't know (it was made of terra cotta, not porcelain or ceramic as I had thought). Most recently, he repaired a large, heavy Chinese foo dog statue which was half of a matching set. It had minor damage when I mailed it to him, but when he received it, it had been more heavily damaged during shipping. :( He was very helpful and patient in working with me and the post office to get my claim paid for that damage, and he did an absolutely fabulous job in putting Mr. Foo back together. He is absolutely the best and I highly recommend him to anyone who needs to have a precious piece repaired or restored. His prices are more than reasonable and he completes the work in a reasonable amount of time given the great attention to detail that he pays to his work. read more
