This is an update. Yesterday Dr. Dastgheib performed cataract surgery on my other eye. Once again the surgery was successful and beyond my high expectations. Before the surgery, Dr. D assured me he would do his best. The surgery itself was painless. During the surgery the doctor gently updated me that all was going well. After, the recovery was easy. And today -- just one day later -- I am enjoying the best visual acuity of my entire life ... and I am not a young man! I am very fortunate to have discovered this gifted surgeon! I see all the degrees and positive reviews but I'll not be back. I experienced 3 red flags and was seriously wondering if the guy who gave me my exam was someone who just came in off the street. If it was Dr. Dastgheib that saw me and his experience and degrees are legitimate, then he didn't find what eye problem that I have. When he shined the bright, white light in my eyes to see what was going on, I was nearly blinded. I have very bad floaters after the visit that are not going away. I also think he burned a hole in the middle of my sight path because there is now a blind spot directly in the middle of my sight. When he finished looking and I pulled back from the light I said "whoa" and blinked. He had a shocked look on his face and asked if I was okay. Then he said my eyesight is fine. But actually, it definitely has a problem now which I didn't have before the visit. read more

My mom had an eye surgery with Dr. Alex Dastgheib. She got great kind service! She's really happy with the surgery. She can see! Everybody in the clinic was really nice and understanding! They let me in to help with translating for my mom and to help her stay relax. Once the surgery was done, they gave me the instructions and kindly helped my mom with getting in the car. This morning the clinic called to check in on my mom to make sure she was okay. We went for her follow up appointment and they were patient and understanding. I have never been treated with such disrespect and rudeness at any medical facility as I was during my visit to Dr. Dastgheib's office on 10/9/18. I cannot speak for Dr. Dastgheib's competency as an ophthalmologist, but, his office staff is in serious need of some training in the discipline of patient care. A new patient should never have to wait 20 minutes before requesting a New Patient History form while noticing that other patients were promptly given one upon their arrival. The excuses I was given by the two receptionists of "I was out to lunch when you checked in" and "I'm new here, its my first day" are unacceptable, highly unprofessional and should be grounds for immediate dismissal. Not once during my visit, was I greeted with a smile, or, at the very least, any eye contact. After waiting 45 minutes just to be asked for a copy of my driver's license and insurance card, I finally decided to leave while noticing that 15 other patients were waiting to see the doctor. As I left the building, I ran into a fellow patient, who said she had just finally had her eyes dilated, and had to come back in 15 minutes. She said she had been there since 1:00 pm. The time was now 2:50. If you have lots of time to kill, and you don't mind waiting an inordinate amount of time to see your eye doctor, then, by all means, schedule an appointment with Dr. Dastgheib. If not, then stay away from this place. read more

I had an 8:30 a.m. appointment with Dr. Dastgheib today (he performed my cataract surgery 2 years ago). I was in and out (including waiting for eyes to dilate in less than 1 hr today). I return to him every 6-7 months to monitor my other eye. Dr. Dastgheib is extremely experienced and highly qualified in his field. The precision of his surgical skills on my surgery were perfect. I don't understand reviews that only mention long waiting room times. No doctor wants to keep their patients waiting, he is sometimes dealing with emergencies and he takes time to explain to his patients and allows you to ask questions. On 9/18/19 I attended an appt they gave me at 8:30am, but when I arrived the place was closed. They opened the clinic at 8:50am. I waited outside. the clinic was supposed to be open at 8am & I had to wait outside w no place to sit down. the 7 others were elderly people. when the man opened the store he rudely apologized & said that they were in a meeting. I felt rudely disrespected & felt herded Inside like an animal. Their treatment to not respecting the scheduled time of others is unacceptably. How long have they been doing this to other people?? Are they doing this because the people are elders?? They should NOT be giving appointments when they know the office will not be open. They kept all the results of the exam & I didn't give me a copy. Locatiin is geeat. Making appointment and being a patient is easy. Dr Dastgheib and all the staff gets the prescription to you, in no time. At times they give you samples before you have the actual eye drops. The only thing about this office is that they scheduled too many appointment at the same time and yoi have to wait 2 to 3 hours from beginning to end. I schedule a 9 am appointment and i got out by 1030 am. However, I schedule at 130pm and there was one time i finished almost at 5pm when they close. Just be aware. I got lucky and was pleased with how my appointment went. I read all the reviews about the crazy long wait time & was both dreading & prepared for one. I packed a lunch & brought magazines, however I got out within 2 hours. The whole time I was getting my eyes tested by a nice staff member & lastly examined by the nice Dr. Dastgheib. Again I must have hit it at a good time. My appt. was at 11:00 so maybe as the day wears on it can get impacted. The parking lot is big but read all the signs like ones that indicate Dr. Parking. There's a 2 hour grace period for patients. I'm always confused by those "pay ahead, remember your stall number machines" because how do you know if it'll be longer than 2 hours? Dr. Dastgheib performed cataract surgery on my uncle on Nov. 2019 and it completely changed my uncle's life. Prior to the surgery, he had been blind for almost a year and the few hours after surgery, my uncle was having tears of joy because he was seeing all of us. To this day, my uncle's life has completely changed. He is able to "live" at his full potential, he's back to working and living life at his full potential Dr. Dastgheib is the best eye doctor in the world. He has his patients to prove it. I absolutely hate going here. My first time there, the staff at the counter took over an hour checking my insurance. Apparently there was a problem with the provider, but no one told me what was going on. I could hear them talking about me, but I was never addressed. Rude. I was there for a check up that took about 10 minutes. But I was there for 3 hours before I was seen. The next time I was there, I was getting a laser procedure done. I was told it was going to be a 10 min procedure and it was... but Dr. Dastheib wasn't in the building until 2.5 hours after my appointment time. I was again there for close to 3 hours. My third time was for my follow up appointment. I was again waiting in the waiting room for 45 minutes until Dr. Dastheib arrived in the office. My check up took 10 minutes. But I was yet again, in the office for 3 hours. The staff is not very great with being friendly to the patients. They act like they hate being there. The doctor himself doesn't talk to you like you're an intelligent human being. He'll sit you down in the chair, then walk out the room multiple times without telling you why (it's to get something he needed, a paper, or something). I was explaining what my optometrist told me about my eye, and he just interrupts to say that's wrong. Unless you have 3+ hours to waste of your day, no other events/appointments to keep later in the day, don't mind being treated like crap, then I don't recommend going here. I always make my appointments as early as possible. Like when the office opens. But when I beat the staff there, then have to wait another hour or more for the dr to arrive... it just leaves me to think... WHY DO YOU ALLOW patients choose that appt time at all? Now mind you, if the office is crowded and busy, and the staff is running behind, I understand. But if your appt was the first of the day, and the patients just start piling up because the dr isn't in the building...and we are just waiting... and waiting... and STILL waiting for at least 40 minutes AFTER he arrives.... get your shit together. read more

I am so proud to leave this review for Dr Dastgheib. I referred a close friend to him, who had been diagnosed with a cataract and a glaucoma of the eye and was really anxious about what her next steps would be. We arranged an appointment with him and he helped ease her mind as she has a severe fear of doctors. She was misdiagnosed by her previous eye doctor while Dr Dastgheib explained the full extent of her condition and gave her proper treatment, which was not as terrifying as we had previously thought! The wait time is TERRIBLE. Today I had an appointment at 1115. The optimologist tech took me in promptly; however, you have to wait 1 hour plus after your appointment to see the opthomologist. My appointment was made for the opthomologist good service would be to have the basic assessment done by the opthomologist tech and then BE SEEN by the doctor. Not wait for more than 1 hour. This was a common complaint in the waiting area. PLEASE assess and implement changes/ intervention for improvement. Wait 15 minutes is reasonable. But 1 hour & 30 minutes. read more

Long wait. 2 hours of wait and still waiting. They put eye drop to dilate eyes and you wait for at least 2 more hours to be seen by doctor. Unfortunately our insurance only accept this doctor so we had no other option otherwise I would have walked out long ago. read more

I highly recommend Dr Dashgheib. My husband had cataract surgeries done on both of his eyes and now has the best vision he's ever had and can read without glasses and has perfect 20/20 for distance . (His prescription was -12 before surgery!). He's been to other doctors since and they've been amazed at what an incredible result he's had. The people in the office are very nice. If they had another set of stars I would select that too. I am giving this Dr Alex (Kourosh Dastgheib, MD) a good review and well deserved. What a difference in my vision, can't say it enough, cataract in my right eye was almost instantly changed like day and night once surgery was done. I will be returning for treatment of my left eye! I can't believe that what I thought was my good eye (left) is really not that great! After seeing through the right that Dr Alex fixed I can see further, clearer and brighter! Dr Alex is amazing. His assistants and staff outstanding and courteous. I was advised to research "The *other Opthalmologist " in Newport by friends and there was a bit of a waiting list, I thought "what for" why wait a season to be seen and treated and why travel 3-4 cities over when we have Dr Alex. He has an excellent background and admire his thoroughness and professionalism ...which speaks volumes. In reading some of the remarks of those with short term patience, Yes like everywhere else you have to wait your turn. I know what they are doing on the other side of the wall is caring and treating other patients, I want the same. If available I chose earlier appointments and brought work with me. I was very surprised on the service we received. Sometimes your treatment is based off of your insurance, but this Dr was amazing. The wait time was a bit long but they did have a lot of patients. The staff did fit us in due to an emergency. I am so glad I waited to see this doctor. Dr. Alex is a great guy, very helpful and explained everything that was going on. We needed an additional auth to see another specialist and Dr. Alex called me the next day to follow-up. These days doctors don't usually take the time. Dr. Dastgheib has been my grandmother's opthomologist and he's been fantastic!! Although my grandmother doesn't speak English (my mom goes with her) and dislikes most doctors, she loved Dr. Dastgheib! Cuz this is a ridiculous place, Me, my wife and grandma waiting to be call In the waiting room for 1 hour, than they finally call my grandma and SHE HAS TO WAIT in another waiting room for another hour. I am in my 50's... thought my prescription glasses needed an update. Dr. Dastgheib did a comprehensive examination and told me the results. Cataracts in both eyes!! He then told me it is something that he can fix. I had the cataract surgery on my right eye on 11-12-18. Amazing!! That is what I was thinking when I looked around immediately after the surgery. The difference is huge. Colors are super bright; everything looks crisp and totally clear. I can't wait to get the other eye done. Dr. D and his staff are very knowledgeable and friendly.
