I appreciate the gesture and his willingness to address my concerns. That said, my goal was never to obtain a refund. My concern has always been the billing process and the discrepancy between what I paid upfront and what was later reflected through my insurance. She got a cancellation and called me back the next day with a sooner date squeezing me in among 30 other appts. I couldnt tell you how lost of an art it is to actually care about people and patients. Oh wow. I'm so happy with the decision to do the LASIK with Dr. Starr. For several years I was wearing glasses. I really really hate wearing glasses. It's so annoying when you lose them or break them. I really wanted to find another solution. When I heard of LASIK, initially I was told I was not a candidate. Honestly I was kind of fearful of the procedure. When my Opthalmologist retired i found Dr. Starr. He made me feel comfortable with the decision to go forward, and I'm glad I did. I now have better than 20/20 vision and I'm so happy. Just a side note, Cindy is great at the front desk! ***Ok, I had to add to my review. This is crazy.. I was walking my dog, Dexter, and I saw a flea on him. It sucks that my dog had a flea on him, yes, but the point here is that I SAW A FLEA on a 17 lb poodle from 4 feet away! Pretty crazy. I have a lazy eye, astigmatism, and aging working against me so I always go to an ophthalmologist, not an optometrist. I can't say I've ever had a great experience, it's just meh. But today was a little different. Dr. Starr was thorough and easy to talk to. He explained what he was doing and answered all my questions. I even had a few things done that were new for me so I felt like I received a good overall picture of my eye health and vision. He is straight forward, to the point, and tells it like it is. I saw Dr. Starr today for the first time. His office staff was so professional. It was an emergency visit as I lost temporary vision in my left eye. I was afraid and he put me at ease. I can't believe it, I'm 18 years since I had LASIK eye surgery with Dr. Starr and I still see perfectly without glasses! Dr. Starr is absent-minded and not up to date in his practice. His office is cluttered and dirty. The equipment is old. He services patients in his waiting room. He does not provide complete prescriptions (I needed reading, computer, and distance). He provided a blurred distance prescription. I went to an ophthalmologist because of severe dry eyes and focus problems. He told me to use Costco eye drops. Plus, he collects a cash only service fee, no receipt, on top of insurance and copay. Literally one of the most kindest and most caring doctors around. I had an emergency with my eye a little over a week ago and I was in a rush to get seen by an ophthalmologist. I called a few offices and was able to be squeezed in the same day by Dr. Starr, while the other offices were dismissive of my urgency and wanted to schedule me weeks out. I went to Dr. Starr's office and his front desk receptionist was also super sweet. Dr. Starr took me back and ran a comprehensive amount of exams on my eye. He was able to diagnose my issue and gave me a handful of medications to start taking right away. I already started feeling much better by the second day. This weekend I had the opportunity to visit Dr. Robert Starr's practice in Huntington Beach. On Saturday I began to experience blurred vision and floaters in my field of view. I immediately jumped on "Yelp!" to see if there were any Opthalmologists nearby and was pleasantly surprised to discover Dr. Starr's 5 Star rated practice was only minutes away. It was late in the day on Saturday, so I didn't get my hopes up. I called his office and was sent to voicemail; however he called me back within a few minutes and told me to come in. I was surprised and thankful that he was willing to see me so quickly. Despite the fact that it was eating into his weekend, he gavee the most thorough eye exam Ive ever had. I was a good thing too as he identified an inflammation that left untreated could have been disastrous. Today is Monday and I am already doing much better and will follow up with him soon. If you are having any issues with your eyes go see Dr. Starr. He's thorough, professional, and even has a few good jokes. read more

He is definitely a genuine and caring individual. An extremely professional, knowledgeable, and thoughtful ophthalmologist. I came to him with a dry eye condition. He listened to my concerns and we discussed different treatment options. Dr. Starr is a bright man. He's very well educated (with a PhD in addition to his MD). He offered pros and cons, including scientific studies, but in the end what mattered the most was that we were taking the path that I felt was right for me. No pressure. Just solid advice, and a caring approach. He even provided some helpful nutritional advice. Dr. Starr really takes a personal interest in the well-being of his patients. He seriously went above and beyond the call of duty in helping to get a prescription approved by my insurance company. I spoke with Dr. Starr directly over the phone several times working through the issue with my insurance, and he was even on the phone himself with my insurance company trying to resolve the issue. When was the last time you had a doctor talk to your insurance company on your behalf? Never before. That's what I'm saying. Without a doubt, NO HESITATION on recommending Dr. Starr for laser surgery!! Dr. Starr was able to correct my daughter's vision from what is considered severe and with significant astigmatism to near perfect. I believe 20/20 in one eye and even better in the other. This poor girl started at 5 years old with the "coke bottle" glasses which she "accidentally lost" twice in kindergarten due to being teased. I recently had a tennis ball hit my eyeball, causing me extreme irritation and concern for permanent damage. I called several offices the following day and no one was able to see me for weeks out. When I called Dr. Starr's office, Cindy at the front desk listened to my concerns, was so kind and told me she would contact Dr. Starr who was doing surgeries the whole day. By miracle he was able to see me the same day! Dr. Starr met with me at his office and was able to give both my eyes a full on examination, even though I was only expecting him to examine my injured eye! While there are many stars among our galaxy, there are only a few that shines brightly and truly stands out , and Dr. Robert Starr is just that. Even though he had never met my mother nor I before, the first thing he did was personally shook our hands and welcomed us into his care. He performed a detailed assessment of my mother's eyes with thorough and lucid explanations. It wasn't just his knowledge that impressed us (as that is to be expected), but it's his sense of purpose and tenacity that blew us away. He went above and to infinity to contact a cornea specialist (taking the phone calls himself) so that my mother could get the transplant she needed. Moreover, he meticulously followed through on every paperwork that needed to be submitted, detailed instructions on what needed to be done, and made mother and I felt like we were his own family members and not just another number or name on a roster. I can see!!! I once had glasses, and now I have none. I am very happy with Dr. Starr. I found him on Yelp and the reviews are 100% true. He is very skilled, is a talented eye surgeon, and is extremely caring. He gives it 100% and treats your eyes as if they are his. I should of gotten LASIK a long time ago. The LASIK procedure was quick and painless and the surgery center was immaculate and had all the state of the art equipment and lasers.
