I was looking for a certain type of chicken and I called there and found they did sell it -- but the person who answered the phone neglected to tell me I needed to go ahead and order over the phone - not just show up and buy it. That delayed me there for 45 minutes while they went through their process to fulfill my order. But I was able to find the capon (denatured rooster) for sale there. It was supposed to have been fresh (it wasn't frozen when I bought it 2 -3 days before Thanksgiving). I didn't have a great experience with roasting it (my fault probably), but what I really hated was the $80.00 -- probably out of A & P's control. I think I am cured of wanting to roast a capon ever again. read more

First time visiting and bought the chicken salad and the split pea and ham soup. All soup and deli items are made in-house. Over two dozen different varieties of homemade soup are available for purchase. I enjoyed both the chicken salad and the soup. It's harder to find small independently owned markets like this anymore. A nice break from large corporate owned supermarkets. I will return to try more of the soup and deli salad items. read more

This place is an institution & awesome!!! Probably the best meat price per pound in the Grosse Pointe Area! They have the best subs, soups, meats, breads, pasta salads and selection of Detroit area classics like Sanders bumpy cake!! And they have the carrot cakes!! Finally got around to trying an Italian sub here & it was pretty good. Hand assembled with care using Boars Head quality cold cuts. Tasty bun, but my only "complaint" is that the bun is a bit too much. read more

I love this market. Everyone is very friendly. The food is so fresh. We picked up 4 chicken kabobs to grill for dinner tonight. They were marinated and the chicken was perfect, delicious and tender. We also ordered roast beef subs for lunch. The roast beef is cooked at the market. We got them with the "works"; tomato, lettuce, peppers, onions and dressing. We had fun looking at all the grocery options available in the market. There are also some fun items for decor. When we were checking out a gentleman was putting out some beef ravioli which he just made. We will have to come back another day to get some of those! We also bought some German sausages. Small specialty store that's been a part of GPF on Mack for ages. I was here earlier to get a salami, cheese, shredded lettuce, tomatoes, banana pepper sub for my parents for lunch, they split it. I have had bites of their subs in the past, since I am not a bit sub person in general. I have been here before, my parents enjoy their subs from here for decades. This place has been here for as long as I can remember. They sell homemade soups, as well as Polish soups from Srodek's. They sell kielbasa, stuffed cabbage and pierogi. Homemade Italian pastas, gnocchi, cheese ravioli, sauces and breads. Service is friendly, has a small town and homey feel to it. read more

I greatly enjoy stopping in here while doing errands nearby. The deli roast beef is sliced by Frank Sr himself and is delicious on my Ry's sandwich's during the work week. I also purchased a small cup of home made chicken salad for myself for lunch. The chicken is so tender and the celery was crisp. I have been coming here for 15 years! The owner Frank is the biggest sweetheart. Always so kind and seriously truly puts his heart and soul into this place. I come here to get Rouladen... *(A German thin cut slice of meat that you roll up around onion and other vegetables then wrap in thick cut bacon then fry up and let cook on low for a few hours...) I have not ever been able to find this type of meat anywhere else but here. They have actually one of the nicest selection of quality meats, cheeses, fish, and all ingredients for your cooking needs. When I used to work down the street I would stop in here every day for lunch and get their subs that were only 2 for 5 bucks! Wich is a AMAZING deal! They make them fresh right in front of you and add whatever meats and cheeses you want! About 10 years ago he used to have a hot dog stand in Mount Clemens right by the old Post bar by Emerald theater. He had the best bar food and I made sure he was always one of my stops when I used to hop around to different bars in the area! I come to this butcher about once every couple of weeks. They have a number of meat selections as well as pastas and corner store items. I usually ask for their recommendations of steaks and sausages. It's a family run business and you really get that feel from them when you're there. At first they seemed a little short with me, but after I came in more frequently they began to open up. One of the sons as well as the father are the best ones to ask about their recommendations. They haven't steered me wrong thus far. I've gotten the Delmonico steaks a couple of times and they are delicious. They are aged, marbled and cook up great. I also recommend the Italian sausages. They have different ones, and the two kinds I've tried have been delicious. I've had their subs a couple of times and if you're in the mood for a good size cold sandwich this is a good place to get them. They are actually pretty cheaply priced too. read more

Every time i pass by and i can't decide what to eat, i go for their amazing subs; way better than subway + jimmy johns. Ask for the two 8" subs for $5 (+tax) and you will be very satisfied by the taste and the deal. You get tomatoes, banana peppers, lettuce, cheese, italian dressing, and the meat of your choice and you can choose to add and subtract any ingredients. i also go for the 99¢ pickles to go with it. also, the employees are very nice and never give you any problems. i love this deli store! read more

Although the sausage (Alexander and Hornung) is top notch, you pay through the nose for it. $7.99/lb for Knockwurst and even worst was the price of the Weisswurst ($11.20/lb). All told for 10 pounds of sausage it was $96. You can buy it cheaper at the grocery store. Although the Weisswurst is near to impossible to find in the stores lately. While I do absolutely love Alexander and Hornung sausage, I think it is time to start making my own. read more

They have fresh made ground round hamburgers in their freezer that they make, you just throw them on the grill no work! I first started going in because of their cheap and delicious subs, but then I started to explore their other options. They have a great line of homemade pasta's, pasta sauces, sauerkraut, and soups. Not only that, but the staff is extremely friendly and good on the eyes. Another great quality about this market is the old fashion feel with their meat that they cut to order.
