I didn't find anything wrong with how the employee interacted with Frank & he seemed to be a bit overly sensitive about his grandson. That same reaction (from employees at different stores) has happened to me many, many times. So what! Here's a thought... hey Frank you're from the 'down town' area so why not just go to the Eastern Market for all your meats, it's so much closer? And just so you know Frank, I avoid going to places like butcher shops 1/2 hr. before closing. They have to do a lot of sanitizing of the equipment, slicing machines & counter areas before closing. So let's try to be a little more considerate of the employees. Also I've always had good service there & their prices are reasonable. The shop is always clean & well stocked. Employees are professional & follow health regulations, always wearing gloves when handling raw foods. I used to work at a food testing laboratory. read more

This is the best meat market in the area in my opinion. In addition to having a great selection of meats, they have a great grocery section as well. Not necessarily for your everyday grocery needs but a nice selection of ingredients you wouldn't normally find at the big chain grocery stores. I stock up on prepared tomato products and pastas while I'm there. Nice spices available also. Keep an eye out for the freezer stock up specials can't be beat! read more

Not sure what happened today. I say this because I"ve been a patron of this store for the past 10-15 years. After I finish this I do hope the OWNER reads this. Normally I come in with my wife (and we are seniors) and also not usually so close to closing time or on a Sunday. Today I arrived not with my wife but with my 23 year old grandson (who also witnessed this whole event). What a shame when I was telling Edmond what a great meat market this is. The only thing different other than the day and time (Sunday, we entered at 2:28 pm. 30 minutes before closing time.) Also with my grandson ( a 23 year old young man biracial but the nicest kid you will ever meet.). Edmond did not experience the problem however, I did. When I entered the store knowing exactly what I was looking for, I saw 2 employees working. A young lady possibly early 20's, and a slightly older gent and he was taking care of a customer. The girl was sweeping behind the meat counter. She kept making eye contact. She wasn't smiling and I figured she was just doing the floors as it was nearing closing time. After several minutes went by (during a time when I was surveying Steaks, brisket burgers and thin cut pork chops) as I walked by and she asked if I needed anything. I replied yes I stopped in to pick up some brisket burgers. She said ok what would you like. Reply: 6 1/3 lb brisket burgers. The have 3:1's or 2:1's (8 oz or 5.3 oz) I wanted 2 pounds of the 1/3 lb. she started to grab the 1/2 lb so I told her again. As she was getting that weighed and packed I said I would meat her at the pork chops. I asked for 6 thin pork chops. She asked me Which ones do you want and started to reach for the thick loin chops. So I said no mam (yes I address people as mam, sir I say thank you. I try to treat people the way I would like to be treated) I want the ones to your right thin pork chops. I sense she is getting annoyed but oh well she should be paying attention, trained and POLITE. Or maybe shes having a bad day and shouldn't be working the front end who knows ( I still don't). Fast forward to the steaks. Things were looking a little shady on the porterhouse tray so I asked to see the ones below the parchement paper I was seeing and there were 2 that fit the bill right in the middle. I requested those and she weighed and packed them. I said thank you. She responded in a barely audible voice huh huh or something. So I said to her again Thank you have a good day and got the same old cold shoulder disrespectful response. I asked one thing outside of her job. Do you comunicate with all of your customers so effectively of is it just me. She mumbled something else as I was walking away. Well My grandson was getting him a box of chedder baked fish snacks and I headed to the register to pay for the $80 order. My grandson walked up and informed me that she was complaining to the other employees about me. So at the registered I requested to speak to a manager. A lady came out who Identified herself as the owners daughter and listened to me and she apologized for the negative experience. I said thank you and had my debit card out to pay when another senior man came out and asked what the problem was. I did ask who he was and what his position was at the store. His response was "I'm not the manager IM THE OWNERS BROTHER! I could tell he already had heard whatever was said in the back and decided to come up after the fact and handle it LOL. I wasn't going to play the game. I think he got ahead of himself. I think he was trying to talk down at me or whatever. I said to him I just explained it to your manager and would prefer if you just let her fill you in (I wasn't in here with my grandson to make a scene. if anything I brought my grandson to my home to help him back into school and to mentor him. To bring this to an end (because the store I"ve shopped at for the past 15 years (but never seen either of these two the owners daughter and brother) I have always had an appreciation for. But with the crew they had working at this hour it just went off the rails. The cashier was going to ring up the order and the OWNERS BROTHER) tells her to throw it away. The cashier asked me do you want to pay for it. I thought about it and told him 'throw it away. called my wife on speaker phone at some point for their ears and asked her what was our favorite meat market, she responded Mario's, The BROTHER says not anymore its not! As a broad general proposition, I prefer to buy my meat at butcher shop, my baked goods at a bakery, and my produce at a produce market. Why? Because no supermarket is good at everything, and if I'm going to make the effort to cook it, it might as well be of awesome quality. This place is an absolutely AWESOME old school butcher shop. They will cut anything you want to order, and if you don't see it in the meat case there's a good chance it's sitting in the back, just waiting for you. They'll trim it, butterfly it or french cut it, as you desire. They get me beef ribs when I want them. They'll cut liver to my specified thickness. Try getting service like that at a supermarket. Not gonna happen. Let's chat about a few things they do particularly well. Besides awesome steaks and roasts, they have "brisket burgers." That's right, ground beef brisket in patty form. About one-third of a pound each. According to the butcher I chatted with, ground brisket has a softer fat that results in a juicier burger. It's a game changer, I tell you. Grilling brisket burgers at home (to a lovely medium or medium rare) is better than ANY burger I've had at a restaurant. I've gotten a few friends addicted to the brisket burger. Try them. Then send me a thank you note. You're welcome in advance. I also think their chicken spedini is worth a shout out. Theirs is chicken breast rolled with pepperoni and pepper jack cheese. Roll that around for a minute. It is tasty as hell, and in a short amount of time in the oven or on the grill, makes a easy dinner. They also have a changing variety of sausages. The lamb Mediterranean sausage is awesome, as was the 4th of July sausage I bought (you guessed it) around the 4th of July. Of interest, they have all sorts of frozen meats, and the price is usually cheaper than if you purchased the same meat fresh from the meat counter. Once you find yourself a brisket burger addict, you'll be happy to know there's usually brisket burgers in the freezer case. I also buy lamb stew meat from the freezer case. Or whatever else catches my fancy. Besides meat, they have a limited grocery section, a small deli section, and a small beverage department. Wow I am impressed. A student of mine told me about this little family owned meat market and swore they have the freshest meat around. I stopped in on a Friday afternoon and I was pleasantly surprised this place. From the outside you wouldn't think much, in fact you'd probably drive right past it without a second glance. BUT, I Urge you to throw it in reverse and stop in. First of the employees couldn't be friendlier, super nice and very helpful. Walking in, to your right is a cooler case of chicken and sausage that they have prepackaged and ready to go-I grabbed a back of their 4th of July chicken sausage with is packed full of a rainbow of veggies. Around the corner at the meat counter I drooled for 10 mins before settling on a couple petite steaks and some brisket burgers....yes that's right brisket burgers! I noticed that they also carry chip steak which is damn near impossible to find anywhere in Michigan, but being a Philly transplant it is the necessary cut of meat for a traditional Philly Cheesesteak. So you know I will be back for some of that soon! The store also has a decently selection of imported Italian groceries-mostly pastas and sauces that you don't see elsewhere. They also had a rather large selection of wine and an area with reduced price wines for like $3. Their prices are unbeatable, you'll never find these prices and this quality at a grocery store. I left with chicken breasts, chicken sausage, steaks and burger for less than $25. Can't being to explain how happy I am I found Marios's. It's a great combination of high quality and great pricing. I recently purchased a hind quarter of beef. Price is as good if not better than the last place I used, but the quality is even better. I've also purchased boneless skinless chicken breasts and bulk breakfast sausage of theirs. I bought both already frozen. They have freezers that have bulk packages of most of their meats at a discount, rather than purchasing fresh from the meat counter. Chicken was cheaper than I can usually get in store, and more than a dollar per pound less then the meat counter. The breakfast sausage I used to make patties. Probably some of the best sausage I've had. All in all, I have no excuse to shop anywhere else for my meats. read more

Jacomo had it ready, trimmed and packaged. the perfect middle not the thin or the thick end. waiting for it to reach room temperature I prepared my old school roaster. They are not open super late but make sure you stop in and stock up on some meat. Last night I purchased Chicken Sausage with Spinach and Feta, 2 New York Strips, and 2lbs. of the Ground Sirloin.
