Alejandra is friendly and Dr. Bonakdar is insightful, however just be careful and aware of what your insurance covers to avoid overpaying. Even if you get $0 eye exam copays through insurance, they will still charge you ~$80 for retinal imagery. Also, make sure to ask for different price points before purchasing contacts. read more

Trying to sum it up in one word: fraud! Never buy scleral lens there! Worst attitude and service! The process is very irregular, cheating me to charge more than $500 for coding when all my insurance is covered? Alexander was amazing!!! Called in at noon for an immediate appointment for an eye cleaning and he fit me in within an hour! Gave me a deal and spent an ample amount of time explaining everything I needed to know! I feel so well taken care of and under good hands that I wanted to let the world know. Before coming in I read the Yelp reviews and saw all good reviews about professionalism and only a few naysayers about billing issues. Let me tell you that I had no billing issues and they were more than fair with me and gave me A+ care and my eyes already feel better. I was in desperate need of an ophthalmologist right away when I suspected that I had iritis on my right eye. This issue happened on my left eye before and I was really in a hurry of finding a doctor who could accommodate me right away. When I called this office, I was told that they could see me that afternoon which is a big relief to me. So sure enough it was iritis. Dr. Bonakdar was very accommodating and he is very knowledgeable of my problem so I had all confidence that he would be able to help me. I have been visiting his office for two weeks now and I am very satisfied of the way he is taking care of my problem and addressing any of my concerns. read more

I have always had a good experience coming to Dr. Bonakdar. Been coming here for 5+ years whether it be getting glasses, daily contacts, or CRT night contacts. They have always been helpful and very professional. STAY AWAY FROM THIS OFFICE. I have been receiving bills for TWO YEARS from this place even though I paid all my co-pays and co-insurance and my insurance paid ALL their network contract payments at the time of visit. Yes, two years and their office is sending bills intermittently with different payment amounts with the threat that they will send my bill to collections! I have just now read the review from Moly L. and did NOT realize that Dr. Bonakdar was NOT even a medical doctor. OMG! And I was going to write a letter to him that he just had an incompetent billing staff in his nurse/receptionist/bill collector, Alejandra, who by the way is very RUDE! I stopped going after my second visit because the nurse did ALL the work and Dr. Bonakdar simply came in for 30 seconds and gave a prescription for new eyeglasses for my daughter. When I took the prescription to look for eyeglasses to Lens Crafters the office would NOT send the prescription so I had to dole out money for another eye exam. Ugh! I have to agree with the first review on yelp. The signs do hang in his office about how they practice "extreme professionalism" whatever that is. However, is it extreme professionalism to discuss your eye condition with the door wide open and another patient 3 feet away who can hear everything? This while he is telling me I have what could be a terminal brain disease, which was completely wrong. Extremely unprofessional is more like it. He also continues to over bill my insurance and continues to send me bills for the co-pay that I paid in the office. Keep your receipts if you go to this "doctor." I would avoid him and do a simple google search on his name to learn more about his practices and "extreme professionalism." I wishIi had done my homework first, lesson learned. Dr. Bonakdar was recommended to me by my girl friend who has been coming to this office for years. I was fitted with CRT lens that allows me to see during the day with no glasses and contact lens! I am amazed that they actually work! I am so excited. When my girl friend who has been wearing the crt lens for years told me about them I thought she was Joking! Now I only wear the lens while I sleep and I can see 20/20 all day long. I go to college and hated wearing glasses, since i am very active. Great office to go to. The girls there are super nice and experienced. The doctor has a very high knowledge in his practice. He explained thoroughly what my condition was and what I needed to do to help my eyes more. He saved my eyes by examining them with such patience. I saw Dr. Bonakdar for a second opinion on "dry eye" issues after I felt the first doctor was 1) apathetic and 2) apathetic. Dr. Bonakdar explained everything to me in great detail and really took his time. My eyes got better almost immediately - at least cosmetically. Since an overnight "fix" is not possible, I am happy to take my time to get things right for a condition that has been there for a long time but non-symptomatic. On November 10, 2010, I went to an eye doctor, Dr. Alexander Bonakdar, to have my eyes checked because when I woke up, my eyes were sticky for several seconds before I could open them up. I called Dr. Bonakdar's office to see if he is an ophthalmologist. A receptionist answered "he is." I also asked her to be sure that Dr. Bonakdar was on my health insurance network and that I would only be charged for the co-pay of $20, nothing more. The receptionist confirmed, "You're only responsible for your co-pay". I made an appointment. My first visit, after checking my eyes, Dr. Bonakdar said I had an eye infection, thus he prescribed two different kinds of eyes drops. I was instructed to come back about a week later on November 16, 2010 to follow up. During my second visit, I told Dr. Bonakdar that my eyes were much better when he asked me how they were. Dr. Bonakdar replied, "It works like magic, huh?" He then told me that he needed to do some eye tests. I told him that I would change my insurance from Blue Cross Blue Shields to Blue Shield of California in the beginning of the year and would be seeing a different ophthalmologist. He said, "Don't worry about it." My eyes need to be recorded in the database. He then had the receptionist perform the test. He told me to continue the eye drops medication on one of my eyes and said I had to come back again to continue the eye check. I came back on November 23, 2010, and at this time a receptionist continued and repeated the same test that I had had during my previous visit in less than 5 minutes. I assumed the insurance would pay for all of this. She had me click on the mouse in a response to the small bright light that appeared on the screen. For this-less than five minute-test, this doctor submitted charge to the insurance for $710.00. This is an outrageous claim. After that, Dr. Bonakdar prescribed me more eye drops which I needed to continue applying for a full year. He then told me to come back to see him again in another two weeks. I didn't return and did not purchase the new drops medication that he prescribed because I did not feel trustworthy about this doctor. Later, I found out that my health insurance would only pay for some of the amount, and I was responsible for the payment of $360.00. I was shocked and upset. On February 8, 2011, I called his office and asked if he could kindly charge me less instead of the full $360.00, since I expected to be charged only for the co- pay. Dr.Bonakdar told me he would not change the amount because it was unethical for him to do so. He then said, "You Asian people always think like that [money]..." He told me that I should not worry about the bill, but the Glaucoma that I have. "You have Glaucoma," he added. He had never mentioned to me that I had "Glaucoma" before. On March 2, 2011, my primary doctor referred me to Dr. David Sack, another ophthalmologist. I still had the same problem (sticky eyes) and also wanted to check on the "Glaucoma" that Dr. Bonakdar said I had. Dr. Sack did pretty much the same tests that I had with Dr. Bonakdar in one visit. Dr. Sack said I did not have "Glaucoma" and my eye had no infection. He said what I had was Intra Ocular Hypertension so he told me to purchase a Sodium Chloride ointment to apply once a day for three months. I would need to return to his office for a regular eye exam in a year. I told Dr. Sack about my eye tests with an ophthalmologist, Dr. Bonakdar. Dr. Sack said, Alexander Bonakdar is not an ophthalmologist. Dr. Bonakdar and his office are not honest from the beginning. He misrepresented me about my diagnostic, the insurance coverage and his own title as an Ophthalmologist. His racial remark was not pleasant. To hear such remark from an ordinary people is resentful enough, but to hear from a doctor is even more so. read more
