During the phone call, the representative acknowledged that the office's billing notification system was outdated. They stated that past-due notices had ONLY been sent through automated 3rd-party text messages rather than directly from the business. The representative also stated that the office KNEW MANY customers believed these text messages were SCAMS and ignored them because they did not come from the business itself. The business only recently updated its system to begin sending paper notices YEARS AFTER THE FACT. I believe this is an unfair billing practice. If the business knew its notification system was ineffective and that customers were disregarding the messages as potential scams, it should have taken reasonable steps to notify patients through more reliable methods instead of allowing accounts to remain unresolved for years. As a result, my first mailed notification arrived 4 years after the alleged balance was incurred, and it was already labeled as a FINAL NOTICE WITH the THREAT of COLLECTIONS. I am writing this COMPLAINT because I believe the business FAILED to provide timely and effective notice of the alleged balance before attempting collection. In my case, although the surgeries themselves were technically perfect, the repeated reassurance that my symptoms would simply go away--or that they were things no Doctors on their team had really encountered before--turned out to be completely wrong. After cataract surgery with IOL implants, I experienced severe difficulty adapting. My vision became extremely sensitive to contrast, light, color saturation, motion, and visual complexity. I suffered from what looked like shimmering or flickering images--especially in my periphery. Environments that had always felt normal suddenly became overwhelming. My ophthalmic surgeons were excellent surgeons, but they openly acknowledged that they did not have tools or training to address what I was experiencing from a neurological or visual-processing standpoint. After about a month of significant distress, I found Dr. Terry Tsang through ChatGPT--something I never expected to say--and scheduled an appointment. From the very first visit, it was clear I was in the right place. Dr. Tsang immediately recognized the constellation of symptoms I was describing. What shocked me was not that my case was uncommon--most people adapt quickly to IOLs--but that so many other clinicians had been unfamiliar with these issues at all. She was not. She understood neuro-visual adaptation, post-IOL sensory disruption, contrast sensitivity overload, and binocular coordination problems immediately. More importantly, she had the diagnostic tools, structured therapy protocols, and experienced staff to actually treat them. I attended one-hour sessions twice a week. Between visits, I was given targeted home exercises. The therapy began with very basic visual retraining and gradually increased in complexity as my system relearned what it had done automatically for more than six decades--convergence, divergence, depth perception, peripheral integration, distance and near coordination. All of these had been thrown out of sync by the sudden optical changes from surgery. The process was not emotionally easy. For a long time, I wasn't sure it would work, and the visual disruption had a real depressive effect. Dr. Tsang was consistently calm, reassuring, and precise--never dismissive, never vague, and never overly optimistic without reason. Complicating matters further, I had also undergone upper eyelid blepharoplasty. While it is often said that blepharoplasty does not affect vision, in rare cases it absolutely can. My eyelids opened significantly more--roughly 30%--which meant vastly more light and visual data entering my eyes. My brain, which had become efficient by filtering input for decades, was suddenly overwhelmed. This compounded the IOL adaptation problem and created severe neurological overload. Once again, Dr. Tsang understood exactly what was happening and adjusted treatment accordingly. Her staff deserves special mention. They are exceptionally friendly, professional, and highly competent. Being in the office was genuinely pleasant, which made the therapy far less burdensome than it could have been. After several months, the rehabilitation was complete. I am no longer suffering. My vision feels natural again. The world no longer feels visually aggressive or overwhelming. I have fully recovered. If you are struggling after cataract surgery, IOL implants, blepharoplasty, or experiencing unexplained difficulty with visual adaptation, contrast sensitivity, light sensitivity, or neurological overload--and you've been told to "just wait"--I strongly recommend Dr. Terry Tsang with complete confidence. After the examination, she informed me that I would need vision therapy in order for me to tolerate any new prescription without dizziness, due to my vision being unstable. She also explained to me that brain had already adapted to my current vision, which was why was able to tolerate the prescription of my old glasses. At the time, I did not have the bandwidth to do vision therapy, as I was (and still am) in physical therapy for my neck, and working full-time, all while having limited energy post-injury. So I had called to ask if they would be willing to re-write my old prescription to tide me over until I could do vision therapy, as my old glasses are falling apart and barely useable. The woman at the front desk was very unempathetic and rude to me. She proceeded to raise her voice and tell me I can either get vision therapy or they will not help me. I understand that there may be a concern about prescribing a different prescription than what matches my eyes, but there was a way more professional way to say this, and I think they could have worked with me, had they approached the situation with compassion. My old prescription is very similar to the new one, and I am just trying to be somewhat functional so that I can continue to work and fund my neck injury treatments, which have been going on for over a year now. I am now stuck using my old glasses, where the lens keeps falling out, and my husband had to Frankenstein a wire into it to secure the lens enough for me to use them. Given the lack of compassion and professionalism, I will not be back.

Over the next several months, I spent a significant amount of time preparing for this surgery. I had to schedule and attend multiple appointments at different medical offices, including visits to my family doctor for an EKG, blood work, and surgical clearance. Because I also have macular edema, I was required to receive my regular eye injection before surgery. All required records and test results were completed and sent to Dr. Ghiasi's office well before the scheduled surgery date. At my pre-surgery appointment, Dr. Ghiasi told me that a medication needed for the surgery was on backorder and might delay the procedure. This explanation did not make sense to me because my surgery had been scheduled for months, and it seemed like any medication shortages should have been known much earlier. In my opinion, this felt more like an excuse than a legitimate reason for concern. During that same visit, I was told that a standard lens would be used for my cataract surgery. However, I was later asked to pay $430 out of pocket, which I paid over the phone after being told the surgery would proceed. To this day, I do not understand why I was charged this amount if a standard lens was being used. My insurance said that additional out-of-pocket charges are typically associated with premium lens options, not standard lenses. After months of preparation, multiple appointments, medical testing, obtaining clearances, and paying the requested fee, I was shocked when the surgery was canceled only two days before the scheduled date. The office provided another explanation that I found difficult to believe after everything that had already happened. At the time of the cancellation, I was rescheduled for February 2026. However, the office later called again and left a message saying that appointment would also need to be postponed. By that point, I had completely lost confidence in the office and no longer felt comfortable trusting them with my care, so I did not return the call. From August 2025 until the final cancellation and postponement, I invested months of my time, energy, and effort preparing for this surgery. The repeated delays, last-minute cancellation, lack of clear communication, and unexplained $430 charge caused unnecessary stress and frustration. I found a place in Irvine and, before going, decided to check the reviews. To my surprise, I came across a few negative comments, especially about the front desk staff. When I arrived, I asked the first girl for her name--Kaitlyn--and she was incredibly kind, professional, and welcoming. I then had my eye exam with Dr. Figueroa, who was also very professional and genuinely kind. After my exam, I interacted with another front desk staff member and asked her name--Karla. I realized she was the one mentioned in some of the negative reviews, so I'll admit I was a bit curious. But to my surprise, my experience with her was completely the opposite. She was warm, helpful, and very professional. I even told her I would be leaving a positive review because my experience was great--not just with her, but with Kaitlyn and Dr. Figueroa as well. I think sometimes people may be having a bad day, and unfortunately, it's easy nowadays for others to focus only on the negative and forget to share positive experiences.
