I had an upper blepharoplasty done by Dr. Melanie Ho Erb early in March 2026. I'm an Asian male,…read moremid-fifties. I asked for really high and deep creases, and to remove some fat. I've shown her a few highly edited photos of myself with my desired results. I originally chose Dr. Erb because her before / after results were the best I've seen. And after meeting with her via Zoom, I knew I'd found my Oculoplastic surgeon. She was extremely thorough during the interview, answering questions I've not even asked yet, and knew what I was going for. She went through the procedure with a fine-toothed comb, ensuring that I understood fully what to expect. Every question was answered, absolutely NOTHING was rushed. I felt extremely comfortable knowing I was in good hands. And Dr. Erb was so personable; I felt like I was the only patient in the world! On the day of surgery, I met with her staff, who were very accommodating, friendly and comforting (Gina is a riot!). They made me feel at ease before and after the surgery. Dr. Erb gave me some medication to induce sleep, and before I knew it, I was out. The procedure itself was pain-free. I was pretty groggy after surgery, and I can't remember too much. My healing from Day 0 was uneventful: no problems and no complications, just normal bruising and swelling, typical for someone my age. I'm pretty much a slow healer; I iced for the first week and a half to two weeks until I returned to Irvine for suture removal. The stitches were removed without a hitch (and felt amazing!), and now let the true healing begin! I'm now at one month+, and the results are incredible. The results look EXACTLY like my projected photos. I have zero complaints! I understand its only been a month, and my lids will continue to heal and de-swell. But if these results are any indication of what the final results will be, man oh man, I will re-name my first-born "Melanie"! Dr. Erb is extremely skilled in what she does, and she has great bedside manners. She truly listens to your wants and needs, and will do her best to keep you happy. Choosing Dr. Erb was a life-changing decision --- I can't recommend her enough!! I was always self-conscious of my eyes, and now I've never been happier. I am sharing my experience so that other patients know to carefully review their EOBs and billing statements and make sure they understand any charges collected before insurance is processed.

That surgery completely refreshed my appearance while still looking incredibly natural. Friends would tell me I looked well-rested, and I honestly felt like I looked 10 years younger. BEWARE!!! In 2026, I received my FIRST mailed notice regarding an alleged unpaid balance for…read moreservices provided in 2022--about 4 YEARS AFTER the date of service. The letter stated that this was a final notice and that my account would be sent to collections if payment was not made. I contacted the business to ask why I was only being notified four years later. Instead of receiving a clear explanation, I was met with an unprofessional attitude and was NOT given a satisfactory answer. During the phone call, the representative acknowledged that the office's billing notification system was outdated. They stated that past-due notices had ONLY been sent through automated 3rd-party text messages rather than directly from the business. The representative also stated that the office KNEW MANY customers believed these text messages were SCAMS and ignored them because they did not come from the business itself. The business only recently updated its system to begin sending paper notices YEARS AFTER THE FACT. I believe this is an unfair billing practice. If the business knew its notification system was ineffective and that customers were disregarding the messages as potential scams, it should have taken reasonable steps to notify patients through more reliable methods instead of allowing accounts to remain unresolved for years. As a result, my first mailed notification arrived 4 years after the alleged balance was incurred, and it was already labeled as a FINAL NOTICE WITH the THREAT of COLLECTIONS. I am writing this COMPLAINT because I believe the business FAILED to provide timely and effective notice of the alleged balance before attempting collection. I also encourage anyone in a similar situation whose credit is in danger of being impacted to review their payment records and confirm with their credit card company whether the balance was previously paid. Do your own research because this experience has left me with little confidence in how patient accounts are managed.
