My first impression of this dental office is for them to Hit the insurance as hard as possible, to collect and benefit from. The invoice felt off to me. So I requested a Pre authorization invoice before I commit to the plan they are presenting. I also have double insurance through my spouse. I still have to pay for a deductible. Hmmmm? Seems odd. Yes, this place is high-tech. Has the most up to date equipment to utilize which is a plus, giving me the confidence that the work being performed on my teeth is in good hands, in terms of being relaxed in calm format. I Can't take that away from this dental establishment. Technology Kudos for that. My 2nd visit, I was able to get a cleaning. Patty did a fantastic job as my assigned Hygienist. Great work! Big props to her! They even give you a goodie bag with a toothbrush and toothpaste after your teeth cleaning procedure has been completed. Overall, I am going to give this place a chance. She was able to make an appointment the next morning at 11:30AM with my dentist!! WHAT A RELIEF!! I was VERY happy that Dr. Robert Nochez and Long Beach Smiles Dentistry was able to fit me in on such short notice the very next day! It ended up being a root canal and a crown because of the vertical cracking of the tooth but at least it wasn't an implant!! And this is even crazier, the next week, a crown I have had for many years feel out in the sink I the morning while I was water flossing! I figured it would be no big deal and they could just re-cement it but nope--there was decay next to the gum and they had to clean it up and I needed another crown since the margins no longer match. Again, it was great that they were able to fit me in when I called that morning; and with my doctor, once again! They not only overcharged me for services that were capped by my insurance but their mismanagement of my account with a secondary lender caused my credit rating to plummet. If you have an HMO Dental Plan, they are prohibited from charging anything over the "Maximum Allowable Charges" that are set by their "capitation" agreement with the insurance company. I was overcharged by $3,388 for dental work and only found out because I spoke with the insurance company the OTHER time they tried to overcharge me. I only found out after demanding itemized receipts and comparing them with the fees on the Delta Dental website. Besides the issue with the outside lender, I have overpaid them $844.00 out of pocket and they refuse to pay the money back. I will be taking them to court but can only imagine how many more people they have done this to. If you have ever gone to Long Beach Smiles at 5555E. I just accepted this fact and paid what my bill said. After, I checked my insurance portal and the difference between what it said on my claim versus what they charged me was $349. I called an insurance agent to ask what went wrong, and he plainly stated that many dentists take advantage of people with HMO plans and that they should have known that the filling was covered by my insurance. However, he told me to give them the benefit of the doubt and try to get a refund directly from them. I called and told them my situation, and a staff member at West Coast said they would call me back about the issue. Shocker, they didn't! So I had to visit the office, get copies of my documents and scans, and file a grievance through my insurance. I finally got my refund, but DO NOT go here. I am young and have some free time to pursue these matters, but I can only imagine how many other vulnerable, busy, disadvantaged people they may have taken advantage of or lied to. Some of my emails throughout this ordeal say it is the patient's responsibility to know what their coverage is, and I get that to some extent, but it's plain knowledge that our healthcare system is broken. I expect my healthcare providers to be knowledgeable about insurance plans since that is their job. A $349 overcharge is unprofessional and disrespectful. The staff from my X-rays my consultations everyone was so kind, patient and I wasn't embarrassed anymore. I felt confident of the new smile that would be in my future. The dentist went to work and he was finished so fast, I couldn't believe it. He did an excellent job and I'm so thankful for my progress.
