I came here after an unpleasant experience at another dental office, where I was told I needed a crown replacement, which turned out not to be true. A Belmont Dental Care was thorough, friendly, and kind. The dentist showed me each tooth on the x-rays and was very patient at going through every single part of my dental history and health. I usually hate going to the dentist, but this doctor made the experience stress-free and was incredibly helpful and informative. I was in and out in less than 45 minutes, the office was clean and quiet, and he did not try to upsell me or shame me. In fact, he was very encouraging and supportive, and the cleaning was excellent. I will definitely be back and would probably drive lengthy distances for his services, should I end up leaving the great Long Beach area one day. Obviously, this was just a cleaning, so I can't speak to bigger procedures. I've been a patient at Belmont Dental for almost 2 years and they are fantastic. The staff is welcoming, friendly, and helpful. Dr. Hosena is very kind and informative. He goes over your X-rays with you and explains what he's looking for. He keeps you informed as to what he is doing during your cleaning and checks in to make sure you are doing okay. As someone who made the mistake of watching Marathon Man as a kid , I've always had a fear of dental visits. I never feel like they are trying to push any extras on me. In the past, I've had dentists try to push removing my top wisdom teeth. I know the older you get, the higher chance of nerve damage can happen and they are not causing me any pain or trouble. Finding quality medical care these days is an adventure in itself. Have only seen Dr Hosena here a few times for cleanings but I appreciate the honesty he prides himself in having, sort of an old school dentist, real human if you will, not just a business man. Location is great, walking distance from my house, accepts my insurance, always greeted with a smile, never a long wait, and above and beyond checking insurance, apts, ect. Also encouraged me to bring my daughter with me to future apts so that she can also get used to seeing the dentist! I went to this dentist bc they offer services as : anxiety medication / gas during your dental visit. Unfortunately, I've had my share of awful experiences that have now build a fear of all dentist. My initial visit I was given medication - out of pocket. The medication was given before my appointment and shortly after the dentist wanted to begin. I asked him if he can wait as I was not feeling the effect yet. This dentist seems or always be in a rush. He always ALWAYS recommends higher procedure / work rather than what the patient can pay. He route always seems to be the most profitable, not what's needed. I was very anxious in this visit but the assistant is who kept me calm. I had the first part of a route canal completed - pending 2 other visits. I had to go back just recently, as a filling in the front tooth chipped and I had a wedding to attend and was not going to show up with a Madonna gap :) The doctor again was in a rush. Seems to have very low patience. Worse than that, he of course recommended the highest quality cap available. I asked for the 2nd option. At this time , I was not able to proceed with either bc the wedding was in 2 days. Once he was completed, the "fix" or filling was awful. He did not lay a thin filling to cover or blend the tooth. I can clearly see the line of the crack and it was rough to the touch and the color was awful. I asked if buffed it out or can fix the way it looked and he said I are getting what I paid for which was a temp fix. I've gotten a filling and it's never looked this awful. I paid nearly 400 out of pocket for this and guess what? Not even a month later, the tooth is chipped. This dentist is a rip of and I will never return. The way he made me feel was horrible. The front desk person also saw the tooth and agreed. Sorry for the picture - my mouth was still numb and I don't have amazing teeth. For the love of God don't go to Dr. Hosena. I used to take pride in my teeth but he has made me lose complete trust in the profession of dentistry. I was a loyal client for 12 years. He told me I wasn't grinding my teeth. I saw him for TMJ and he did absolutely nothing for me. Then I had pain in molar tooth 19 as a result of grinding. He crowned it and also 18. Both were done so bad that I required two root canals and now they both need to come out. See my review under Nunya B. This is a follow up from that hell. Here's the total result of his poor treatment towards me over the years. I am going to need two implants now!!! You people say he's nice and ethical but when it comes to getting any type of real work done he's a loser. He has no idea what he is doing and needs his license revoked. All he does is look in the mouth and says everything is ok. He's lazy and doesn't want to say anything is wrong to avoid real work. Thank you jerk Hosena for ruining my life. Dr. Hosena and his talented team treat patients as family. Dr. Hosena is a kind and gentle man who earns his patients' trust and respect. I travel from the San Fernando Valley all the way to Long Beach to make sure my five-year old daughter, my wife, and me receive the wonderful care at his office. My daughter always looks forward to going and the staff greets her warmly and dotes on her. I first came to Dr. Hosena after realizing that my previous dentist had advised me to do unnecessary care and refill fillings. I have been going to Dr. Hosena for 25 years now, even when his first office was on Cherry and 3rd in LB. He has been a top notch dentist through my cleanings, fillings, a root canal, last minute appointments for chipped teeth, and the list could go on. As I approached my mid 50's, I realized my teeth had some general wear and tear-and I consulted him about getting zirconia crowns. I considered it a huge gift to myself! You can tell he is a great boss because his staff are all great; they have big smiles and are very welcoming. They have helped me through my teeth whitening for my wedding, several deep cleanings and my normal check-ups. This guy is a complete hack job and a liar! Cleanings went fine until I needed real work done. Took a spill and a front tooth started to die. Hosena said I needed a root canal and crown. Claimed he used the top dental labs. After the root canal he put a temporary crown on until the nice one came from the lab. Went back and crown was noticeably darker. Had to make another one. Next one was a better match of color but didn't fit so he tried to shove it in there and do "some manual" adjusting. Grinding away at the tooth next to it (found that out later but claimed he didn't do that ). When I looked I saw the crown didn't fit right it was noticeably longer then my other front tooth. Thought something was fishy, so I asked receptionist what lab he uses. After some research and phone calls I found out the lab is not a top lab, and doesn't even have the extra certifications that top labs have. After confronting hosena and his office manager about the shady work, the lies about using a "top" lab, and the damage to my tooth next to the crown they both told me to get out. I then went to a top dentist in Rancho Palos Verdes. Confirmed the crap work and crap crown. This dentist took xrays and noticed the root canal by Hosena was done with third world metal material. My new dentist then sent me to a ENDODONTIC dds to redo the root canal. During the redo-procedure I was informed that when the old crown was removed the tooth was already leaking fluid bc of the bad job done before. It had only been a few months prior! Imagine if I hadn't had the root canal redone the puss and leaking would have really screwed me up years from now! I returned to my RPV dentist to then have a filling on the tooth next to my front tooth that Hosena had damaged when he was trying to get the second crown in. My dentist stated that the damaged tooth next to my crown that had a sharp edge (see picture) and the space between the two that wasn't there before was done from a dentist tool. He said there was no way I could have done it myself let alone without dentist tools. Additionally he stated the crown that Hosena had made didn't properly fit up to the gum covering the root, and that's why it had become infected and started leaking. Bottom line do not go to this dentist if you value your teeth! read more

I have had a great experience here and I don't think I'll need to go anywhere else. Firstly they offer the "laughing gas" for deep cleaning and other procedures. But there was an assistant there who was so kind and comforting. She had her hand on my shoulder during the number (which is the worst part for me) and that really helped me feel calm. He showed me today I've been a patient since I was 5 years old and I have nothing but nice things to say about this place. If you have a fear of the dentist I can't recommend him enough because I have always felt so cared for here even during some not so fun dental work. Let's face it, going to the dentist is always so stressful, but Dr. Hosena and his staff really make it as easy as possible. I have been going here for a little over a year now and always have had a good experience! I only go in for my 3-month cleanings now, but when I first got to Long Beach I had this weird issue where plaque was building up heavily in my gums! It completely sucked and my mouth was always uncomfortable. I've never really had any issues with my teeth (I'm lucky I knoooow) so I was pretty bummed out and nervous about it. Dr. Hosena told me it was a simple fix with just a deep cleaning, but that insurance would have to "approve" of the procedure first! Because life is always annoying and confusing, my insurance somehow decided that my issue wasn't detrimental enough to approve the procedure. I called Belmont Dental right away, and they immediately appealed to my insurance and went ahead and scheduled me for the procedure anyway. His staff was so genuine and kind in helping me out and everything turned out just fine. In a life full of ups and downs, I always find comfort with Dr. Hosena and his staff. I just completed a crown and it went very well. From placing the first appointment until the permanent crown was placed, it was smooth! There was always constant communication with my appointments, insurance coverage, payments, and procedures. I would highly recommend Dr. Hosena and staff for a few reasons: - Experience: you can obviously tell that Dr. Hosena is an experienced dentist that will provide you great dental care. He is gentle and has great hands to make sure you are comfortable. -Staff: the staff is always on top of your insurance, appointments and always tries to work around your schedule. I went to get my teeth cleaned almost a year ago at Belmont dental care. I filled out the questionnaire and had told them that I had x-rays done about 2 years ago. After they did X-rays and then cleaned my teeth, I asked if I owed anything and they said no. They scheduled my 6 month appointment. Then, a few months after I get a bill from my dental insurance. I called the dental office and they said I need to pay for the X-rays as they were done less than 5 years ago. I explained that I was told there was no fee on the day of the appointment, but they insisted I still had to pay. I paid the bill, asked for my X-rays records and I canceled my next 6 month appointment. I am still waiting on a copy of the X-rays. I finally got my X-ray copies today after reviewing. read more

I can happily say that I've found my new dentist. Dr. Hosena and all of his staff were friendly and professional. They were running on schedule and finished my exam and cleaning in a timely manner so that I was able to make it to work after. The office is clean and I felt very comfortable the whole time. Dr. Hosena is the best dentist I've ever had! He's straightforward on what needs to be done, without being a car's salesman about, always being clear that if my teeth are healthy and not endanger of messing up my mouth he won't suggest anything besides my usual cleaning. I've been going to him for 6 years now and he always is kind and remembers me and my husband, even though he's never met us together. My last visit was a great visit with him but I was disappointed by his dental assistant, who I had never met before, so she's new to me. After my check in with Dr. Hosena after he checked all my ex rays going over everything with me he says (and always says) your wisdom teeth are good and came in fine so we aren't going to remove them(They came in ten years ago and never caused me any issues) but I need a deep clean so come back in December. I hadn't been to see him in a year and a half because they canceled my appointment in April 2020 the first week of shutdown and we're only taking emergency appointments and I just hadn't been able to reschedule, so I knew with my heavy red wine and black coffee consumption this was coming and My mouth always has a heavy buildup behind my lower front teeth no matter how great I am about brushing. No big deal, BUT his new dental assistant after doing the polish and speaking to me like a child on how to brush my teeth she then whispered to me I should really just go ahead and get my wisdom teeth removed. I'm sorry you're not the dentist lady and I'll be following his advice not your UPSELL on an unneeded surgery! The new receptionist also upset me a little trying to schedule an appointment for me without asking me what days work best.... Seeing as I'm paying for your service you should consider asking me what works before just handing me a card. I'm sure that's how mistakes in scheduling are made so be patient and ask the patient. read more

Best time to go? 2:30. Get it? I sent my wife here because this dentist had about 45 five star reviews. If you are going to let someone stick sharp things into your wife's mouth, you don't want any one or two-stars. I mean, I don't like the thought of any things going into her mouth oustide the house, especially when she's under, so a five-star dentist is what I found. Of course, you need to plan ahead. Like a camping spot at the bottom of the Grand Canyon or anything with high demand and low supply, there will be a wait. So be prepared for that. We had to wait three weeks to get in and three weeks for the next appointment. Sounds bad, but it's high demand for high quality. My wife is a dentalphobe and she said this is the first time she went to the dentist and didn't end up in tears due to fear or being reprimanded by a dentist. After a five year hiatus, the dentist did exactly what she needed: they were extra welcoming and caring about her physical and mental comfort, they did an initial exam, and they told her exactly what was wrong (without being a dick about, except for warning her about smoking's effect on teeth), and told her it was all fixable. She says she is no longer a dentalphobe. Maybe we'll play dentist tonight. Thanks Dr. Hosena. UPDATE: My wife's first visit went great. She got her tooth extracted, and again the staff was nice and supportive, and the dentist and assistant were gentle. read more

I am no stranger to the dentist or bad teeth. I've had braces and a palatal expander. I've had three wisdom teeth pulled, two of which were impacted. And I was blessed with an extra set of permanent teeth on the bottom front of my mouth which were pulled just before the aforementioned braces. Oh, and several cavities. Nearly three years ago, one of my fillings had cracked resulting in terrible decay to one of my molars. As I'm naturally cursed when it comes to my teeth, the decay was so bad, every dentist I visited concurred that a root canal was necessary. To make matters worse, this particular molar's roots were twisted like tree roots making the procedure daunting for even the most skilled and confident dentists. This was particularly difficult for me to process--despite or perhaps as a result of my past dental experiences--as I would have preferred to avoid the dentist altogether and have been known to have tears stream down my checks even when having my teeth cleaned. I was a nervous wreck. I decided to try one more consult: a small office whose window reads "we cater to all cowards!" It's like they knew I was coming. The 5 star rating on Yelp didn't hurt, either. During the consultation, Dr. Hosena was gentle, calm, professional and informative. He also concluded the root canal was necessary and reiterated the challenge I presented. And that he was up for the challenge. The day of the procedure went well, I only cried a little before it began. He sent me off with antibiotics and even called me at home that evening to ensure I was okay. A subsequent appointment with Dr. Hosena (normal for root canals) confirmed Dr. Hosena successfully removed all the decay and that I had healed nicely. I made my next appointment for my semi-annual cleaning that same day. I've been a loyal and very satisfied patient ever since. Dr. Hosena is extraordinary not just for his medical knowledge, but he has bedside manner and attention to detail that is so, so rare. He starts each procedure my applying lip balm so the patient's lips don't dry and calmly narrates to keep you apprised of his progress and your health. For those yelpers who have expressed frustration with not being able to get an appointment: perhaps it's because Dr. Hosena does not double book. When I arrive for my appointment, he and his staff and ready to take be back to the examination room. I believe the difficulty in obtaining an appointment may be the result of this office demonstrating the utmost respect for the patients' time. As a working professional, I greatly appreciate this. This review is long overdue! I needed a routine cleanup and x-ray exam and went to trusty yelp to search for my next nearby dentist. After searching all the dentists in the area, I came across Dr. Hosena' soffice and found that they were having a routine cleanup and x-ray exam deal. Considering that I have no dental insurance, I'm a Grad Student, and I'm cheap, this place was looking like a winner. For $90 (It was definitely below $100) I had a 6 month routine cleaning and x-ray exam. Everything went smoothly, the staff answered all my questions, and in general everyone was really nice. Oh, and this was the first dentist that I've gone to that has a digital x-ray machine! It was pretty cool that I could see the images within seconds of the "picture taking." Dr. Hosena was also very informative in explaining what was going on with my teeth. After my exam, maybe like a couple of days later I received a "Thank You" card from the office; I thought this was a great touch to tell your customers you appreciate their business.
