It all started when I sent a mass message request for quotes from various photographers around the Napa area. I had planned to do a surprise proposal for my now fiance and the responses I received were unhelpful and dry. Many responses were received such as "500 flat rate" or "not available". Well, Chris responded with a very thorough and inquiring message. He sent many many suggestions of places to propose at, what the area is like, what the staff is like ... man I can't name the countless details he has discussed with me. Point being, he went ABOVE AND BEYOND what nobody else would. I had a few places in mind to propose at, but these suggestions Christophe made were fantastic. I'm talking vast mountain views and intimate settings. Open vineyards as far as the eye can see where no one is around but just you and that special person. He has done us a 100/10 service in helping plan and set up the surprise engagement. Christophe is special to me in the way that he has made this whole process a comfortable and exciting one. I was very nervous throughout the whole process and due to some miscommunication, I was devastated but Chris cleared everything up for me and the other parties involved, and from there I knew he was a man with a good heart that only wants the best for his clients. In preparation of the surprise engagement, he gave very very thorough and specific details. Like, there's no way you can go wrong!! It was so comforting knowing step by step what I should do and how to help my fiance get the best shots without compromising the surprise in any way. In the end, my fiance was so happy about the whole engagement that we couldn't stop talking about Chris and the venue the whole ride back to our hotel. Our usual photographer (7SistersPhotography) moved out of state, and I wanted to keep the same style that we have been doing since birth. Aileen captured exactly what I was aiming for! I tend to get a bit over-involved in planning photo shoots (like a notepad... from outfits (including outfit changes) & accessories, to props & decorative items, and anything in between). I'm sure some photographers would be annoyed by this behavior, haha, but not Aileen. She was very open to ideas & even encouraged participation in this capacity. She was friendly & sweet from our first conversation, and during the shoot, she was super patient with baby, despite his stinky attitude lol. It happened to be a little chilly outside (evening shoot), and baby started getting cold; so she totally adapted to our need-for-speed, and purposefully, expertly, & efficiently got the best shots in order to finish up quickly. I was first drawn to her policy regarding ownership & release of her client's images, which shows (1) true character, (2) a genuine love of her job (not just a way to nickle-n-dime people to death, haha), and (3) great confidence in her abilities to generate repeat business & lifelong clients (as opposed to racking up as many unnecessary charges as possible to pad the one-time tab)! This was one of the absolute worst experiences that I've had with a photo shoot. I will describe…read morethe situation from the beginning. I wanted a fun photoshoot with an abundance of flowers. I reached out to her and she assured me that she understood my vision and would be able to deliver. I paid (and even tipped, regrettably) prior to the shoot, per her policy. During our initial conversation, I stated that I wanted a lot of flowers and I would buy them from a local flower shop. Kyra insisted that I would not need to purchase flowers because the photoshoot was after Mother's day and a wedding and she would be able to get them for free. I took her word for it and did not make arrangements. I tried calling her on several occasions leading up to the photoshoot but she did not answer my calls. I began to get worried, but I figured it was because she was busy. The night before the photo shoot, she told me she could not secure any flowers....the night before the photoshoot. When I suggested changing the date of the shoot to allow me to make alternative arrangements, she declined. I did not want to make a fuss, so I scrambled and found a place where I could buy several bouquets. So, on the day of the shoot, she began taping the flowers that I bought to the wall. She said that we only needed to tape a few because she would photoshop the tape out and cover the wall with the flowers via photoshop. I waited over three weeks for the photos. When I inquired about when I would receive them, she stated that she was sick and had to send them to a company to be edited. About two days later, I received the photos. Wow. They were completely unedited - the flowers did not cover the entire wall, the tape was not edited out of the photos from the flowers, and my actual face/appearance had no retouching. I was so confused. I revisited the contract and it explicitly stated "40 Fully Retouched Images." None were retouched. She tried to cover herself by lying in an email, stating that she only does "small retouches"/ contrary to the contract. So, she offered a few insufficient options to make an attempt to rectify the situation - she said I can 1. pay more money for each image to be edited (even though the contract states fully retouched images) 2. Use her standard retouching? 3. a 50% refund with no images. I even tried to make it easier on her and offered to obtain the raw images and I would pay an actual professional to edit them. She stated that she does not allow her images to be edited by others, which is contrary to the fact that she sent my photos to be edited by another professional, who did not understand the assignment. So, after all of that - I had to wait yet another 2 weeks for subpar images. To add salt to the wound, she even had the nerve to use MY image on her email marketing campaign. I highly recommend looking elsewhere - because you will not receive images according to your vision, there will be a lack of communication, and you will wait 3+ weeks for unedited images.
