I am a HUGE FAN. When I lived in LA, I had the very-bestest of the best alteration person. When I relocated to STL, I checked out the Yelp reviews of all area contenders. Alexandra's didn't have a ton of photos, but the language in previous reviews pointed me in their direction. The shop is co-located with a hair salon. I'm not sure if the hair salon keeps the same hours, but I posted a photo of Alexandra's hours here on Yelp. Double check before heading their way. They work SUPER hard to make alterations to your specifications. They will also make recommendations according to your garment's material(s) and what they have seen work and not work before. They have worked magic on my dresses, taken in jeans, and altered tops, hems, gowns, quilts, and more for me. They truly can do it all. The shop ladies are extremely friendly in a no-nonsense kind of way.....does that make sense? What I mean is - It seems like everyone in the area takes their items there, so they STAY busy. They have to stop working on their current project to help you, so it's usually less chit chat and more, "Go in and try it on." As I write this in 6/2025, I think the current return time os 8/2025. Keep in mind, June is right after prom season and right in the middle of wedding season. If I knew how to sew, I'd apply for part time basic work just to learn more from these ladies. The prices are reasonable. I always pay in cash as a nod to small business keeping more of monies earned. Lastly, check out my pictures of their seasonal "porch display." Most of the garments displayed are remnants of cloth these ladies fashioned into a dress. I KNOW the necklace paired with the winter dress was made with recycled buttons. My hubby bought a new coat last winter that he just loves! I've never seen him so excited about a coat before. Then the buttons starting falling off. It was kind of sad to watch him standing there with buttons in his hand and a frown on his face. I can do a lot of things well, but sewing isn't one of them. I know my limitations. So, I got on yelp and looked for someone to help. I found Alexandra's Alteration Shop. We took his coat and dropped it off on a Saturday. Then we waited. It got cold, but hubby has other coats to wear. Then we waited some more. Finally after a month, I called to see how things were going. This is when I found out the problem. This place is swamped. She said they were still working on stuff from October! Then she asked if we were in a hurry, she could move it to the top of the pile. I appreciated that, but I didn't want to bump anyone and hubby does have other coats, so I told her that wasn't necessary. Several weeks later, they called and his coat was ready! Hubby was like a little kid going to get it and was so happy to have his coat back. The buttons had been re-attached and the ones that hadn't fallen off had been re-secured. They did a great job and hubby wore it that evening and he's worn it every day since! Now what you need to realize about this little shop is they are super busy! If you are in a serious hurry and really need something, I would suggest either asking them if they can do what you need in a hurry or take it someplace else that isn't as busy. Being busy is a good thing for them, it just might not be for you. If you want it done right and you aren't in a hurry, be patient. We will definitely use them again. read more

If I could give 20 stars, I would. I had another seamstress basically destroy my wedding dress and Carol at Alexandra's fixed everything. She spent her time really looking at how the dress should fit my body and made sure I was on board with her suggestions and made sure it was how I wanted it to look. My dress was absolutely perfect when I picked it up. People raaaaved about my dress and it's all thanks to Carol! Not to mention she had sooo much work to do and was a fraction of the price. After going to several alteration shops in the area and constantly being disappointed, I almost gave up on the army jacket I was trying to get customized for my boyfriend. This was a special jacket that we had found at a vintage shop where the two of us had vacationed. It belonged to a World War II veteran. We wanted to get it customized with several patches all over the jacket that represented army life and the journey my boyfriend has gone through. All the girls at Alexandria's were very nice and accommodating towards me. They worked out a way to help me get all of the patches sewn on and it did it within the timeframe. I was so happy to receive it and it looked amazing at a great price. They even managed to sew on one of the patches that we thought would not be possible. Alterations took over a month and were poorly done with no time to go somewhere else to fix it. Very expensive.

Alexandra's is absolutely amazing! I was so busy preparing for my wedding that I didn't even think to try on my dress which had been purchased three years ago and pre-baby. Of course it didn't fit. I took my dress to Alexandra's about two weeks before my wedding. They were able to add material to make it fit, hem the dress, and add a bustle all within the two week time frame. They did amazing work and the prices are extremely reasonable! I will definitely be keeping them in mind if I need alterations in the future. The employees are super nice and helpful. They really took a huge weight off my shoulders when I slipped into my dress on wedding day and it fit perfectly. I cannot thank them enough! read more
