Beware!!! I walked in with clear instructions and reference pictures. I walked out looking like I lost a bet. Not only was the haircut completely opposite of what I asked for, but the length was aggressively chopped off without consent. I wanted shape and movement -- not a primary school uniform haircut. I now resemble an 8-year-old schoolboy, which was definitely not on my vision board. The most disappointing part? Zero accountability. No apology. No attempt to fix it. Just vibes and scissors. A haircut can grow back, sure -- but professionalism and listening skills should already be there. Rudy did my daughter's highlights and cut and she was so very satisfied with his work! She had been getting highlights for awhile and Mr Alfaro was by far the best experience and they look fabulous! His attention to detail and care of giving her meticulous color and cut was beyond my expectations and I would happily recommend his services to anyone! Go see Rudy! This was by far my least favorite hair cut... He basically made fun of my previous hair cut and said he would "transform me"... Turns out to him that means A LOT of nasty feather layers and the Rachel look from friends. I asked for a long bob and he said I needed movement so he cut a bunch of layers that don't blend at all. Very arrogant vibe from him and not at all a positive experience. I didn't hate the highlights he did but not absolutely crazy about them either. Ooooo and my bangs! They look like the original American girl dolls bangs. Awful! read more

It seems like there are one million and one hair salons within a 10 block radius on Belmont. I've been to several of them. My favorite, however, is Alfaro Hair Design. It's totally unpretentious and very reasonably priced. That being said, Rudy, (the owner and master stylist) could charge a lot more. He's truly awesome. This guy knows how to cut and color hair. He has done a far better job on me and my family/friends than the other more "luxurious" salons. Not only is he a gifted stylist, but he's excellent in the customer service department. (Something that many of these other salons lack.) I have sent at least 8 people to him, and every one of them is thrilled. read more

I have been going to Rudy Alfaro for 15 years for my cut and color. And I stuck with him even when his location moved and wasn't quite as convenient for me - worth it to stay when you find somebody who gets it right. We always discuss approach every time I am in for an appointment. He makes recommendations on how to adjust my color, and always listens to what I want. I almost always love my color. The very few times over 15 years that something wasn't quite right, he works with me to fix it. It would be difficult for me to go to anybody else at this point!! read more

I have been a customer of Rudy since 1988. A long time I know, but there is a very good reason for that. Quite simply, he does a great job cutting my hair. I wear a simple bob with bangs, and every time I come in for a cut, I leave very satisfied. My hair is straight, but lately I have been having trouble with frizz. Rudy did a simple, reasonably priced keratin treatment that really made a difference. That treatment and the cut he gave me has made my hair much easier to maintain between appointments. Another plus is that Rudy is a very pleasant, personable guy that doesn't try constantly to talk me into procedures I really don't need or want.
