I've had their delicious pizza many times! Every time I placed an order, the aroma and smell of them making their pizza right in front of you add to the excitement. You know you're in for a great treat! There have been times I couldn't place an order by phone and had to run in quick and place an order and it's never a problem. Came out for a quick trip to the new legoland and hotel recommended this Alfonso's Grabbed a little paper menu from the front lobby at home2suites on the recommendation of the hotel clerk and I was very pleased. This is the closest pizza place to our house. We tried it a couple of times. The owner seems pleasant. The woman who seems like she's the owner's wife is not very friendly. The one time we diner in it didn't go well. Food wasn't cooked properly. Pasta was crunchy. I overheard that the owner was at an event catering, so apparently the people in the kitchen were not the normal. We've done pick up orders a couple of times. It's been okay. Nothing horrible but nothing stellar either. The time we got pizza and wings along with a meal the price was quite high. After a few bad experiences at another pizza place down the road I came here. What a pleasure! Simple place, nothing fancy, but great food! The lady behind the counter was really nice and patient with me and my son. He took forever deciding on what to order and asked 20 questions before deciding. I am used to it but others get frustrated. She had the patience of a saint. The slices were HUGE which was great. In usually order 2 but here one "Jumbo" slice was plenty. This is a uniquely distinct family business. While the pizza is an authentic NY style pizza, all of the food they serve is freshly prepared and of high quality. I have used their catering menu quite often and have never gotten negative feedback. Their prices are fair and affordable and I won't get my pizza from anywhere else. Yes, Josie K is right about the decor. It's a sticky elbowed, greasy-grouted, old garlic aroma-ed traditional pizzeria. From the faded sign to the sharpie - written menu, it's no different from the pizza joint you went to right after school let out every Friday. The one I went to way back in the days of yore had an almost red-orange glow to it. Or maybe that was just the 80s? Either way, this place had the best tomato sauce in the county. That was years ago. (as in like two.) Sad to say, now their sauce is mediocre and barely coats a pizza - with notes of tinniness from undercooked crappy canned tomatoes- the sauce barely registered. Had i ordered white pizza with dough colored by one of their menu markers? Oh - and their prices went up. Like ridiculously so. They were always one of the more expensive parlors, but I hadn't been here in awhile so I figured I'd give it a try. To warn you -a slice of plain pizza is three dollars. Yes. THREE. WHOLE. DOLLARS. One slice. For that price, i can get a slice AND a soda in Manhattan. Unless you've gotten 24k gold shavings on the pizza I am NOT paying that much for a slice of pizza. A pizza is a pizza is a pizza. Besides, I hate getting gold shavings stuck in between my teeth. It's something akin to chewing on foil gum wrappers. Alfonso's is one of the oldest pizza joints in the Scotchtown area. It really is not a sit down place and more for carry out. Need a pizza for Friday night on the way home, this is a good place to stop, but call ahead because it can take up to 20 minutes to prepare. The pizza is good (not great) and the large is a little larger than others in the area. The pizza is pretty consistent but sometimes the crust can be a little thick. I like the sauce but can see where some people may find the taste a little off. Most pizza flavors are good, but they use canned mushrooms that taste good and are plentiful but they are canned and not cooked. So if you need a decent pizza in Scotchtown try Alfanso's. We travel about 10 to 15 minutes to Alfonzo's after being disappointed for so long with what we have found much closer to home. It's neat and clean, and by far the best Italian food you can get (both quantity and quality), and a reasonable cost! No WAY do not go here!! We use to get our pizza here, It was never that good but the guy who owns the pizza place closer to us is a total pervert. So we started to drive here to get pizza. The last time we ordered a pie here we were told it would take about 20-25 minutes. SO we headed over to pick it up and we were maybe like a few minutes longer then 20 minutes by time we got there.. no more then 25 minutes. So we give them our name and the guy goes "YEAH your late we just gave it away you gotta wait another 20 minutes we just put another one in for you" UM HELLO WHAT!? who does that?! so we told him no the pizza's not worth 45 minutes to wait for and he got all mad because he put a new one in!! He shouldn't have given ours away. Complete nonsense. I will never go back. Its filthy inside the pizza is gross and the sauce is watery. Theres a good 20 other places in the area to get pizza, I'd go to dominos before i order from this idiot again. read more

Decor: This looked like a traditional pizzeria. As you walk in you look like into the front area with the pizza ovens in the background. If you make it at the right time, you can watch them actually make the pizzas. The back room where I sat help about ten table and a small bar which didn't look like it had been used in a while, but was kept clean. One complaint I would have is their board of food offerings wasn't very detailed. In fact I hardly found anything of substance of it. If they had a fuller board they would have gotten a bigger sale outt of me. Instead I was handed a menu to look at. Most people automatically look at a board when entering such an eatery. The floors and tables were kept clean which was a nice welcome, but nothing would make this pizzeria stand out from the rest in terms of look. Cusuine: For those living in upstate New York missing the taste of NYC pizza, this is the place to go. The slices are huge (and by huge I mean twice the size of what you would find anywhere elseand if you like a crispier crust you will fall in love with them. For those liking a meatier crust, the owner is more than happy to accomodate you. Try finding that at other pizzerias. After finishing the pizza I decided to try some garlic knots which came out in a timely manner and hot out of the oven. They were a bit heavy with oil and if you don't like a lot of garlic, be prepared to swipe some off before munching on them. Service: Anything I needed or wanted was taken care of and most of the time before I even noticed I needed it. I wanted a sllice cut in half? Not a problem! This may not sound like a big deal, but for parents it is quite helpful. There was always someone around in case I had any questions which was quite convenient as there is always someone you forrget to ask for. For a small pizzeria in a small part of town, the service here is amazing. Overall: I would recommend trying this pizzeria out. You won't be disappointed it. If your speedy gonzales, just phone it in earlier. If you're ordering italian dinners, be prepared, yet again, for HUGE portions with all the extra's you get nowhere else - like bread, a REAL salad with tomato's, olives, roasted red peppers, and more. How about a meatball hero where whole homemade meatballs and homemade marinara actually fill the foot long rolls! Horrible food. Would not recommend eating here. Inside the restuarant looks likes its never cleaned. Floors are greasy. I ordered food for lunch. Lunch specials were inexpensive it included french fries or soup and a 12 oz of soda. Sounds great. So we ordered Italian Panninis and stromboli's. It took them forever to make it. I went to pick up the order because they told me it would be 40 min until I got the food delivered to the office. The food was horrible sub-par. The stromboli was bland, too much dough and not enough ham, salami and mozzerlla. The soup was supposed to be minestroni (thats the way they spelled it) it was very greasy and lots of broccoli. No beans ?? The pannini was supposed to be grilled right.. not ! it was a mess if i can post pictures of the food you would see how gross the food looked. We called to complain but they didn't care what we had to say. Eventually, we got a call back from "Al" and he was upset that we didn't like his "fresh" food. He tried to make it up to us by sending new food, but it never came to the office nor was our money refunded. Its a shame they don't care about customer service or keeping customers.
